Things to Do in Dallas - 4 Days

Hey all,
I'm going to be staying in Dallas for 4 days (start of April) and wondering if anyone has suggestions on what is worth doing, any good eateries, drinking holes etc.

I'll be staying in Downtown Dallas and going to check this out:
Exploring Deep Ellum
Going to Rocket Fizz to see all the sodas
Klyde Warren Park
Reunion Tower
Trying a frozen margarita somewhere.

Any other suggestions?

    Maybe ask TripAdvisor?

  • I've been to Dallas many many times. Usually I'm interested in the local food whenever I travel. My recommendation would be to eat ribs / brisket at "Dickey's barbecue pit".

Dallas has many bbq / ribs restaurants. I have tried quite a few of them. Notable mentions include Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum (very long line up during lunch rush hours, imo, average, not worth the line up, but if you're in the neighbourhood, go check it out anyway, you might have a different opinion), Peggy Sue, etc. Dickey's is my favourite. If you can't be bothered finding it, just try ribs at any bbq restaurant at lunch time. Not expensive, around $10 - $15 (usd).

  • If you have a car, you can drive out to Fort Worth. On the way, you can see the Dallas Cowboys stadium - you can book a guided tour if you are interested, the place is huge and it's pretty cool to see inside (the giant screen, and sheer size of everything - it's Texas, so everything is BIG)

The 6th floor museum is pretty interesting too - where JFK was shot from.

You could see NBA basketball or NHL hockey too - the stadium is easily accessed from downtown.

  • Go to Arlington, on the way to Fort Worth and pay your respect to dime bag darrel. See the cowboys stadium.

Drive to San Antonio if you bored

Watch a mass or spurs game

If your after a cheap hotel to stay in the super 8 near airport is reasonable, and can get train to city from airport

Get boots, cowboy hat, eat texan bbq and tex-mex for sure. Also go to HEB store to buy some awesome food stuff like BBQ sauce and other condiments. Also definitely try Chick-fil-A.

Edit: Use Yelp app to find good places to eat and shop.

  • You could go shopping for a slow-n-sear for a weber. It would be really great if you could bring one back for me. Shipping cost is outrageous.

  • Stay in Deep Ellum and just soak up what's on offer. Pecan Lodge isn't overrated as someone else suggested, while Twisted Root is a small chain which do excellent burgers throughout the state. STIRR is one of the best rooftop bars in the area, Braindead Brewing is a very cool gastrobrewery and Ascension Coffee was started by an aussie if you need a flat white. Drink Shiner beer and eat lots of meat.

6th floor museum, Reunion Tower, Mavs/Stars game are all in easy reach, and you'll be blown away by the Cowboys' stadium and it's well worth the tour.

One thing I found to be extremely overrated was the Fort Worth Stockyards. Tacky stores selling tacky shirts and other tacky gear, expensive food and beer, contrived nature of the area. Worth a look at most.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Will definaterly add Pecan Lodge and a few of the other places suggested for food/drinks.

6th Floor museum sounds found. Won't have car but family I'm staying with after said they can show me stadium on way out and probably catch a game.
