It’s Zelda, not FIFA. Nintendo don’t just rehash games. Any new game in a series is as different as possible. Look at Ocarina and then Majora’s Mask. Even Mario Kart is different enough. Would love to see F-Zero come out on the Switch but apparently they “don’t know how to take it further”.

Anyway, does anyone expect this to be a proper collector’s item? There seem to be too many around for it to be sought after in the future.

      • +2

It 'probably' would be a collectable one day, but will depend on when Nintendo pull the plug on manufacturing the product. I am really tempted at this price as I want the sword but running through scenarios in my head of how to explain why I bought it… haha

      • Would love to see F-Zero come out on the Switch but apparently they “don’t know how to take it further”.

        Maybe the rumoured VR headset?

      • Nintendo don’t just rehash games

Super Mario Bros 2 (the Japanese version).
        Donkey Kong Country 2, 3.
        Metroid Prime 2, 3.
        New Super Luigi U.

Nintendo knows exactly how to milk a franchise with minimal effort.

        • +6

What you want them to make a whole new engine each time they make a game? Metroid Prime 2 and 3 you consider minimal effort?

          • @Kritter2069: The claim was "any new game in a series is as different as possible", do you think they satisfy that?

            • @ssquid: Your claim was "minimal effort" which I think is drastically incorrect for games like Metroid Prime 2 and 3, otherwise so are any games made with Unreal Engine or Cryengine any premade engine.

        • +3

donkey kong country was made by rare and metroid prime was made by retro studios. new super luigi u was intended dlc that was offered as a stand alone purchase, so yes, its going to be very similar.

in general, nintendo try to do something new with each major release of any of their IP

        • Also the Mario Kart and Smash Bros series
Though the main Zelda and Mario titles seem to generally try new things.

          • +1

@Sage: The main offender by far is a series that starts with P, ends with mon. Releases are typically split into two separate near-identical games just so people have to spend twice as much to get the full content.

            • @ssquid: Game Freak makes Pokemon, Nintendo is only the publisher.

        • exactly! why cant they do it with zelda every now and again too!

          • @JuryWheel: They did once, OoT had a rehash called the Master Quest. There was a GameCube disc that included both versions.

            • @ssquid: It was free and was given away with Wind Waker preorders.

            • @ssquid: Master quest was a bit different - just changed dungeon layouts by memory…? It would need to be something much different to that..

        • +3

The DK’s are 2D platformers and feature DK characters. That’s about all they have in common. Absolute classics and even DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze are regarded as classics. Far from the same games. Anyway I’m sure we could have a great debate, but don’t want to detract from the deal. As long as we’re all enjoying gaming. I just find it a lot more fun on Nintendo systems than others.

      • +1

They don't just rehash games. But it is a tried and tested part of their product and marketing strategy.

      • Things marked "collectors edition" generally don't become collectors items as everyone keeps them.. You want the obscure stuff that no one wants or bothers to keep.

    • +1

Considering how well BotW was recieved the next game may reuse some of the assets, storyline etc but it is very unlikely it will be called BotW 2. They’ve done away with sequel titles like that since Zelda II

      • They are remaking links awakening so I wouldn't be expecting a botw2 anytime soon

        • +2

The game after BotW has already been in development since at least late 2017. Nintendo, generally speaking, will always have the next main console Zelda game in the works - they just take a long time to make.

Smaller projects like the Link's Awakening remake are typically handled by other teams so that they can have smaller releases inbetween each main console game. They're not putting everything on halt to make it, or anything like that.

        • Will just have to wait and see. The big honcho guy for Zelda already stated around the end of 2017 that the next Zelda game was already in production

    • +3

      My brain hurts reading that

    • +1

wow, havent received that many negs before……thanks!
As mentioned below, I am more so hoping for a ocarina->majora type sequel where the engine, art style, controls etc are pretty much the same, they just gave it a new 'skin' with a new story. The story for BOTW was barebones as it was so its not exactly 'rehashing', just not going back to the drawing board like they did with say wind waker and then its sequel…
Further, as mentioned below also, nintendo TOTALLY rehash games all the time! You could probably argue that Zelda is one of the few that changes dramatically each time!

      • +5

Can you please translate your sentence "I really look you hope the my bring out a BOTW 2". I think the negs are due to not everyone being able to read pidgin.

        • +2

Haha, didn't even notice that massive balls up of a sentence……i stand behind it

      • +1

You didnt deserve negs, it’s a valid opinion. At least their main games/series remains quality whether we think they’re rehashes or not.

    • You can has Engrish?

  • The Master Sword that comes with this is awesome. Hm, to buy or not to buy?

    • +2

Honestly, its really not worth it.
Its cheap plastic and tends to bend when on display.

There is a letter opener that looks much better if you want a display piece of this sword.

      • +1

Yeah, the Sword part is poorly made, wish it was the same as the rock its in.

        • Furthermore, it's not even accurate to the sword's design in-game. It's based on a piece of artwork which doesn't match the in-game model to begin with. The hilt isn't quite the right shape and it has a couple other inaccuracies.

It's an alright collectible, I have it as I bought it with a limited edition box on launch day, but I pretty much forgot about it and left it on a shelf ever since.

  • +1

Man, I was hoping Octopath can go down to $35.

  • Dark souls is tempting

On a separate note, FIFA 19 is $34 on eshop (62% off), possibly lowest price ever

  • +1

I'm not amazed by any of those prices except starlink is a record low and even better after cashback

Nadir is $5 more than other ship packs as it's the one everyone wants :/

  • Any deals on console? I'm not spending $500. Haven't seen a deal in months.

    • +1

There are deals regularly. Subscribe to the search term "nintendo switch". You should be able to get one for $380 or less if you can wait up to a few months.

      • +1

I’m sure I saw it on here for around $300, so I can NEVER pay more than that.

        • +1

Yeah, Black Friday I think. With shopback the price ended up coming down to $290ish

      • -1

I have signed up, and it’s 99% games posted. Last console deal was Black Friday. $330 or so, RRP is essentially $380 at that time so I’m not paying $380 let alone $500.

    • Cross your fingers for an announcement of a redesign this year. Internally they will streamline design to make it cheaper to manufacture. Hopefully passive cooling, if possible.

    • Good guys ebay sale tomorrow 20 percent off. Around $370.

  • Here via Reddit! Nice find on the Breath of the Wild LE given the stupid eBay prices.

  • Might jump on Diablo iii, although it has been cheaper before. Wonder if JB will price as I have a voucher.

    • Depend on who ypu talk to. Some JB is fine, some not.

  • I really really want to get Octopath. For those who got it, is it worth the price tag? I feel like I could sink a lot of hours but its still over 50 for almost a year old game.

    • +2

One of my favourite games on Switch - I've put in over 80 hours into it. I would definitely recommend (even at this price) if you're a fan of JRPGs.

      • +2

Same. The story leaves a bit to be desired but the actual game play and graphics are superb.

        • Yeah the whole time I was hoping everyone's story would converge in a meaningful way, right until the last chapter I thought they might pull it off suddenly. But no, don't expect the characters to even acknowledge each other during story missions.

          • -3

@Michael15286: I played an hour of the demo and can't understand how anyone finds Octopath fun. I'd only play it if I was a quadriplegic and it was the only game in existence. Even then I'd probably have many better things to do, like watching Parliament Question Time.

These games were created at a time when this was the technical limit of an in depth story driven game. Fast forward decades to today, and short of being nostalgic, this is just a deliberately bad game.

Is everyone who enjoys this a shy librarian type? Actually, I've known some pretty freaky shy librarians…

To anyone who enjoys this, please consider that you may be wasting your life and it's not too late to make a change. Go outside, go for a walk, bounce a ball, get laid, etc. There's probably a match for you who also suffers from crippling lonely social anxiety who is lurking and reading this right now, but you won't find each other if you stay in your shells…

            • +2

@Scrooge McDuck: First let me say I +1 you not because I support what you said but because I feel your opinion should still be voiced.

Onto the content of your comment, I've got to strongly disagree. This game is more than anything is a homage to those age old classics which many spent their childhood playing. The story could be better imo, but the mechanics are some of the best ever in this genre.

Believe it or not, some people enjoy watching Parliament Time, just like many people enjoy this game. Sometimes you've got to accept people have different likes and interests to you.

As for your last comment about people wasting their lives, the same could be said for ANY entertainment, not just this game or even video games. The key is moderation. People can play games and still lead balanced lives. Personally I feel you're projecting way too much onto the people you imagine play this game.

            • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: It's escapism, which can be good & healthy in moderation.

  • Is this the same as the collectors edition that came out on release?

    • Yes.

  • +2

Can't believe Nintendo is still selling this Collectors edition. You'd think it would be a bit limited given it a "Collectors Edition"

Never buy a Nintendo Collectors Edition at release I guess

  • +1

Any Bayonetta 2 deals anywhere, I missed the one from last week

  • Zelda is a Master piece and game but as a switch owner it needs to definitely release some solid triple AAA games, not so much crappy indie games from the mobile store.

We need stuff like red Redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077, uncharted, World war Z, GTA5, Days Gone, The Last of Us, there’s many good games if they came out not like so late, Nintendo would profit much, they just need to downscale the game a little, good example like doom on the switch it still runs and looks fantastic still.

    • +1

I'd love to agree, but it's a Nintendo. Shouldn't be a major surprise.

    • That’s… not how it works…

    • Right in principle, wrong in examples (they are either playstation exclusives or too demanding for the console)

  • +1

The Fractured But Whole. Still can't get over that title.

    • It took me so long to realise the title was a joke. Just because it took a while for butt powers to be enabled and I never thought about it until later. I feel kinda stupid :)

      • nah took me ages too, and i too was embarrassed

  • -5

Mario tennis aces $60?!? How is this not $5

    • Do you really expect a switch game that recent to be $5?
Not even Breath Of The Wild or Super Mario Odyssey are $5, but they got released almost 2 years ago.

  • +1

BOTW LE is now $129.95 :)
