Add $1 to all of them for Qld (and I assume other 10c return states). Which is particularly bad for the 4 packs, since you only get 40c back, but pay $1 extra…

    • Yep Feral coming up as $15 for me in NSW.

    • +3

So that means that Hoegaarden goes up to 11

      • +3

Eleven. Exactly. One louder. I mean, $1 more expensive.

  • +4

So what’s next, selling beer in a twin pack?

  • +5

There’s two varieties of Ballast Point cans; $17 per 6 pack and pretty good ratings on rate beer. I think I’ll give them a go.

    • +2

thanks, good spot, also on beer advocate - deal updated :)

      • You’re welcome! Thanks for the post.

        • no worries - i've now upgraded it to the deal title :)

    • +3

Big Eye is a nice full strength West Coast IPA. At $17 / 6 pack it's a steal.

Pity the Sculpin's not on sale as that's marginally better according to my tastebuds.

      • Agreed on both counts

    • +2

Ballast Point Grunion Pale Ale, $13.90 for a 6 pack is good value too.

      • +1

Excellent value but no stores around had for a while.

        • Fair enough. There's one near me - Alphington, Melbourne.

          • +1

@dazweeja: Lucky. I would definitely grab some. Very good drop

    • Check that they aren't older than 2 months…

      • +3

The cans I picked up are marked best before 7/2019. I don't think I've ever had a can of Ballast Point that tasted anything but lovely.

As far as IPAs go, it's a different style than what your average Australian craft brewer pumps out (i.e. SUPER JUICY TROPICAL FRUIT FRUIT FRUIT PINEAPPLE PASSIONFRUIT DID WE MENTION FRUIT?).

Hops in the Big Eye are Centennial and Columbus and it tends more towards the herbal / dank side of the spectrum which I find isn't a style that is appreciated much in Australia.

It's not a trendy Brut NEIPA or whatever ridiculousness is in fashion at the moment. It's just an incredibly well balanced beer that belies its reasonably high ABV (7%) and pours a beautiful amber colour.

        • How's the taste of the cans expiring 7/2019?

          • +1

@Fobsessive: As I said, I've not ever had a batch that I'd consider bad and this lot that I picked up is no exception. Granted, I've never had it fresh from the Ballast Point tap house to compare but even if the flavour has mellowed slightly it's still a nicer drink than 99.9% of beers that you can buy for $17/18 a sixer.

Unless you specifically don't like this not-so-fruity style of IPA it's worth a punt while it's on special, if you can still find it. I bought the last three six packs from my local DM so I'm sure stock will run out soon as it's not a beer that they tend to pack the storeroom with.

            • @Pantagonist: Grunion and sculpin are excellent. Not a fan of the big eye, thought it tasted like medicine. Grabbed some even keel to try.

              • @chowmanly: The only tastebuds that matter are your own.

I would say it's the inclusion of Columbus during the dry hop phase that you're not liking the taste of. That hop variety doesn't get used in too many Australian beers.

I think many of the other BP beers use hops like Amarillo, Simcoe, Centennial etc. late in the process that tend to impart the sorts of flavours that you get in Australian craft beer.

  • Thanks Tonester! 10 days to St Paddy's..

  • A Guinness lager? Eh?

    • +1

Yeah they occasionally dabble in other brews, they've got two lagers on sale in Ireland at the minute, hop house is the better one.

  • -4

$13 for Heineken (full strength) 6-pack. Decent.

  • +2

Decent beers on special with My Dan Murphy's? I thought those days were long gone!

    • +2

Member when they had White Rabbit for $10!?

      • aren't gonna happen again.

    • They've been pretty decent the last 4 or 5 months or so.

  • For most things you are still better off buying a carton from boozebud and using the $50 groupon code.

  • Hop House lager is great.

  • I've been waiting for the St Patricks day specials with the Guinness and Kilkenny so nice to see these here… Hopefully more stores to follow suit in the coming days…

  • Any deals for cartons? 6 or 4 packs isn't too exciting :D

    • +1

It's not advertised as a special, but the Hoegaarden is $45 for 24. It's normally about $60 from memory.

  • Got the Big Eye, thanks OP!

  • Cheers OP, grabbed 5 x 6packs for $80. Great value!

  • +1

Thanks, a 4 pack of Kilkenny will be nice for Friday night.

    • +1

      It's a 6 pack!

      • Ah yeah I meant 6 pack… lol

  • Another month with no local/independent craft beer…..
(yes, I can get them from craft bottle shops, but why can't Dan Murphy's promote some craft like Bentspoke?)

    • +2

Probably just an issue of scale. If DM decided they wanted to knock $10 off a four pack of Bentspoke and run that promo nationwide I don't know if the Mitchell cannery would be able to pump out that much product in addition to servicing other stores.

Personally I'll always give my money to local stores before DM (Woolworths) unless there's a core brewery range on special that I can't get from independent bottle shops (i.e. Ballast Point).

Maybe it's just a Canberra thing, but my local independent does 4 packs of Sprocket / Red Nut for $20, 10 packs around $47 and 24 packs for $100 and which are all cheaper prices than DM plus they credit 5% of the value of what you buy to your loyalty card account which you can cash in whenever you want.

  • +1

Maybe it’s just me but these deals don’t seem that great. Especially with the container refund tax in QLD.

  • So the monthly member special no longer come out on the 1st?

    • +1

Well it's no longer worth looking forward to the 1st of each month

  • Patron XO coffee 700ml is also included in the members offers for $55, a decent price imo - https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_892467/patr-n-xo-ca…

  • Merged from Ballast Point Big Eye India Pale Ale Can 355ml 6 Pack for $18 (Usually $29.49) @ Dan Murphy's (Free Membership Required)

Good strong IPA. 6 pack for less than $20! I'm heading down to buy some now. Cheers

    • Great beer and well worth the price.

    • Looks like $17 in VIC.

      • indeed it is. Bought. thanks OP

    • +4

Better be good if it's $30 for a six pack!

    • +1

      Oh hell yeah!!!!

    • -1

Bought a six pack last week.It certainly packs a punch. To be honest not a favourite for me flavour wise…i prefer the heavy duty Little Creatures.

    • +1

Literally having one right now. So good.

    • +1

It’s been on all month. Very malty and less fruity than most IPA’s but still a great price👍🏻

      • +1

Yep. Personally, I love it but very much towards the malty bitter end of the ipa spectrum. Certainly not for everyone.

    • +1

Just picked up 3x six packs. BB date July 2019 at my store.

    • +3

this is technically a dupe of this post since that post had it in the title and it hasn't expired since. but thanks for the reminder anyway, think i might grab another pack. i actually really enjoyed the big eye, very different to most aussie grapefruit-punch-in-the-face IPAs, the big eye is more like burnt honey

      • +1

Didn't even see that post. Thanks for linking OP.

    • ripper you beauty OP!

    • Picked up a 6er this arvo. Nowadays I think I prefer their Sculpin, at least when it's fresh, but couldn't pass this price up. I recall around $18 used to be the regular price for this a few years ago, which I always thought as crazy given its 7% and must have a fair chunk of cost just for the excise.

      • Yeah I prefer the Sculpin too, hard to go past $18 for them though

    • this will definitely add to the front lower abdominal ballast
