  • Anyone have experience price matching Amazon at JB?

    • you can ask, some will do it, some wont… just move onto the next shop

    • Why not just buy it on Amazon instead of leaving the house? And get cashback…

      • +3

I have a GC I got from work that I'd rather use than my cash :P

    • +1

"A JB Deal applies to identical products in stock at both the competitor and the relevant JB Hi-Fi store at the time of price matching. The competitor price must be verified by JB Hi-Fi. Online price comparisons must include any delivery costs. Exclusions apply for cash back offers and store credits, bonus and bundled promotions, coupon promotions, grey or direct import products not sold through an authorised Australian reseller, commercial orders, competitor advertising errors, and competitor clearance products or products with limited or restricted quantities."

      Should match fine :D

      • Thank you very much, will pop down later today and see if they make it happen :)

        • +1

    • +1

I price matched my switch, Mario Odyssey, Dark Souls a MicroSD card all from Amazon AU.. From 3 different JB stores, some have been a little hesitant but the consensus has been "Is it Amazon AU and you have to include shipping in the price"

    • What?

      • +2

edit: never mind I had a wooooshhh moment

  • New or second hand? Decision decisions. Bloody tempting at this price

    • +2

I've been watching eBay and the local gumtree the last couple of weeks, not the biggest bargain hunter, but I haven't seen one second hand go for under $400. Some had accessories though which I wasnt putting much consideration into

      • +4

Managed to snag a ripper deal through FB Marketplace, used Switch for $180 with all accessories, dicky joycon rail so the left Joycon wouldn't connect when clicked in. Found liquid damage on the contacts, cleaned with alcohol and wire brush, working perfectly now :) so you can find some good deals if you know what you're doing

    • I would say New, because the controller might have problem with navigation keys. Mine has issues after 5 months of using, contact Amazon and they sent the replacement right before I sent it back. Awesome service.

    • +3

What's second hand prices like? If it's over 250 it's not really worth it vs new

    • It really depends what you want.

Some people want lower serial number ones for multiple reasons (which won't be discussed here).

However, lets say you just want a normal Switch.

Check Facebook marketplace + Gumtree (preferably Facebook marketplace) and be patient, you can get some great deals if you wait.

The best ones to get are the ones in bundles with wireless pro controllers and popular games like mario. donkey kong. zelda etc.. type games because usually the console itself ends up being fairly cheap.

Do the math (see the prices for used games on ebay) and you could end up paying $250 and lower for the console.

Also, issues like "The joycon is loose when connected to the console" have a super easy fix to them and will end up costing you like $5-10 total to fix it yourself so maybe you'll end up getting a great deal because of it.

Few things to check when buying used switch:

Check it isn't banned by connecting to the Nintendo store. Check that the joycons are not loose (Gives you room for more negotiating if they are.

Check that all the buttons work by going in the settings and you'll see within the settings, there is testing features that lets you test the touch screen and buttons on joycons.

Some people want lower serial number ones for multiple reasons (which won't be discussed here).

        Why not?
There are many legitimate reasons why you'd want to have a CFW switch.

        • You can actually backup your saves for every game like you should be able to
        • If you own retro games you can dump them and emulate them, which is good since Nintendo is ignoring virtual console for now
        • There are some interesting homebrew projects like Steam In-Home streaming, allowing you to play PC games streamed to the handheld

I'd say if you want a Switch either look for a low serial number now or wait for the new revision which isn't supposed to be far off.

        • It's just that I've seen people talk about what CFW can do in the past and people seem to get annoyed by others referring to something that may have legal issues.

Also, what do you mean by "new revision"?

If you mean a new switch getting released, I've heard its just a mini version of the current one pretty much. That hardware wise, there isn't really much of an upgrade.

If that ends up being the case, I wouldn't bother waiting for that. I was hoping Nintendo would release a switch that has much better hardware and can be a bit closer to PS4 and Xbox One (I understand it will never really be at that level though unless they make significant changes to the design amongst other things).

They just want a way to keep up sales for next year and the year after, I don't think they are looking to make significant changes to the switch since it seems to have sold fairly well for them (Kinda like all the different versions of the 3DS).

Wii released 2006, Wii U released 2012 and Switch released 2017. They like releasing different major consoles every 5-6 years

          3DS release: early 2011.. 3DS XL release: Mid-Late 2012 and 2DS was released late 2013.

Looking based off that, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'd imagine things like a different size, better battery life maybe fixing minor issues that the current gen one has is what Nintendo will focus on. I don't see them making big hardware changes/

          • @BarginGrabber: The new revision has already been identified to be using a new architecture, possibly due to how easily the 2015 Tegra inside the current switch was exploited.
There was another exploit that hackers were keeping to themselves, but some bright spark leaked that too and according to the people involved by making the exploit public the upcoming switch revision may never be exploited.

Also there is absolutely no way to release a PS4/XBO power system in a handheld form-factor for now and for a while. The current switch may use an older processor but the one in the Switch is underclocked almost 50% of the capacity of the same processor found in the Nvidia Shield Tv.
This is both for battery life and thermal dissipation. If you overclock your switch the battery will bulge out under the heat well before you reach the processor's real stock clockspeed.

The PS4 and XBO are much larger boxes with specifically designed cooling solutions to push air through them. They put the Switch's smaller and quieter fan to shame but are obviously stuck at the power outlet. Even with a much newer processing solution the Switch simply cannot be as powerful as the PS4/XBO while still remaining capable of functioning as a handheld.

  • Does anyone think this will get cheaper by Christmas? Thinking of a present for my son. Will bite now if no one thinks it will drop.

    • +1

Well I saw some about $10 cheaper but you need to account for a 9 month period so it could go lower. Id wait till EOFY is anything and check then.

      • Good idea. Worst case, it’d be the same price I guess.

    • +2

Christmas is a long way away, decent chance you'll find it cheaper by then.

      • True. Some bundle perhaps as well.

    • +2

No reason it'd drop much in price. Maybe $10 or something but otherwise no competition, and they've said they're not coming out with a new model yet. So no reason for a drop.

      • +1

Miyamoto denied there'd be a 3DS revision weeks before the 3DS XL was annouced.

        • +1

Hahaha true true. But in this case I do see very little reason for an update. It's still selling insanely well!

Personally I'd love it if they released a mini with the new pokemon =p

    • +1

Yes. November 2018 it was $320 at amazon, or $360 at amazon/jb with Mario kart.

    • If you don't need it until Xmas, I'd wait until Amazon's Black Friday sale - they usually have an excellent Switch deal (last year bundled with MK8) for a very similar price to this deal.

  • +1

Any chance that cashrewards or shopback will increase their cash back to 10% to make this deal even sweeter?

    • Cashrewards hasn't budged in a while with Amazon… Still 5% is better than most.

    • I was harassing TA about this 2 months ago when I made my purchase, and he said there was nothing planned back then. And indeed, nothing has happened since then, so I’d hazard a guess this is it.

  • Fyi, there's been a revised Switch model rumoured to release second half of this year.

    • +2

Which surprises me why we have not seen the Nintendo Switch drop down to its $315 sale when Ebay Plus launched. You would think with the rumors it would have dropped lower in price over the last 6 months but its held its value fairly well.

Still super chuffed I was able to grab one during the sale as no discount has touched that price mark yet.

    • +1

Didn't the president of Nintendo say they were not considering a price cut or a successor at this time?

      • +2

Just had a look and yes he said there where no plans for a new Switch console currently and they are mindful that a new "Switch+" could alienate the 30 million users who currently own a Switch console.

        • +1

or prospectively alienate me, who just bought one using this deal 😁😁

          • +1

@KeplersLaws: Welcome to the world of simple, pure, fun gaming.

EDIT: Don't get addicted to Tetris 99 like me.

    • Source is WSJ Japan, fwiw. Big discussion on it here

  • I also got the $315 but paying attention to the Aus $ means that price is unlikely again unless they are coming up with a new console in the future .

    • If they did announce any type of upgrade, even if it was just a built-in camera or something I would immediately sell my current Switch as thanks to Ebay Plus launch I would loose very little money selling second hand.

  • +1

Also a matter of fast fingers as well at the time :)

  • +1

Man these guys are on the ball. Price back up as soon as GG sold out on Ebay.

  • What the actual heck? Why would they end it in the middle of the day? :/ I saw it at work and decided I'm finally buying Switch immediately right after I leave work. Two hours later it's gone AND the price is much higher than it originally was before this deal? Really…

    • no the price is back to what it's been for a while now. $429 is the new normal.

      https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Blue-Joy…

      • Eh, thanks for letting me know… I was keeping my eye on the amazon's price since November, planning to buy it when I settle down. I did. And now it's over $400. No Switch for me. :(
