Hi Guys,

The UCK-G2 Unifi Cloud Key Gen2 is available at it's equal lowest price again for eBay Plus members. Previously it was at the same price in early Feb '19.

Manage your Ubiquiti network devices with the updated and more powerful Cloud Key gen2. This device is more expensive than the gen1 device but it has more cpu/memory resources, a handy status LED display on the front and a built in battery to gracefully shutdown the database when power is lost.

Save about $25 over the cheapest seller on staticice (including delivery).

  • Shows as $299.20 which is still a great price, as I was buying one tomorrow.

    • You might be better spending a little more for the HDD version

      • Never plan to,use the video. Only need it to replace a cloud key 1 that is struggling with 16 WAPs

        • Maybe a docker unifi install would be cheaper

      • 1tb would be pretty useless for security cameras though? Probably better with this and a 4tb drive.

        • +1

you can pop the drive out and replace with a 5tb 2.5 which is max support.

I dont think this one has any drive support

          • @asa79: Oh, you're right. I thought the unit was the same but this is physically smaller and doesn't seem to have a usb port for a hdd or anything

        • I'm using it with two cameras full time recording and no complaints with storage for me.

  • +1

    What does it do?

    • UniFi controller and UniFi Protect DVR. This one looks to be one without the HDD

      • Only the gen2plus is an NVR. This is just a gen2 cloudkey, it has a battery because the gen1s would get corrupt from bad shutdowns.

        • So its an overpriced cloudkey with tiny ups

  • This is the one without the 1TB HDD compared to this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/441956

  • Given I have a synology ds918+ and unifi Poe switch, should I go all unifi and buy ubiquiti cloud key and video cameras or just use the nas? Ubiquiti seems very expensive at $300/camera plus $300 for the cloud key.

The only reason I have the ubiquiti Poe switch is because it was a cheap gumtree purchase. My nas is also not yet set up. IE: Although I've got some nice gear so far I have no real IT experience.

Edit: docker with unifi is an option but that'll only drop the price slightly as the cameras cost so much

    • +1

I'd go the Docker route if you've already got the NAS that will support it. I'm using with the linuxserver/unifi-controller:latest docker image on unRAID. Updated frequently and up to date.

      • I think the linuxserver isn't the latest version of unifi controller

Current version should be like 5.10.19

        • +1

It should be, linuxserver have recently deprecated linuxserver/unifi in favour of this new image linuxserver/unifi-controller

          • @oz-stef: Will check it out as I couldn't use the linuxserver previous as it was older then my backup file

          • @oz-stef: I'm currently using https://hub.docker.com/r/brettm357/unifi he's pretty quick in updating the versions
Looks like the linux one is up to same version

          • @oz-stef: This is my docker-compose.yml to build the unifi-controller on my QNAP:

            version: '2'

            services:
            unifi-controller:
            image: linuxserver/unifi-controller
            container_name: unifi-controller
            environment:
            - TZ=Australia/Melbourne
            - PUID=500
            - PGID=100
            volumes:
            - /share/dockerdata/Unifi:/config
            ports:
            - 3478:3478/udp
            - 10001:10001/udp
            - 8080:8080
            - 8081:8081
            - 8443:8443
            - 8843:8843
            - 8880:8880
            - 6789:6789
            networks:
            qnet-static:
            ipv4_address: 10.1.1.242

            networks:
            qnet-static:
            external:
            name: qnet-static-eth0-db370c

Should be pretty much the same for a Synology. I cut out the other containers, but I'd recommend Watchtower and Portainer.

    • Unifi docker unless you want unifi protect dvr

    • What I really want to know about though is the cameras? They are so expensive compared to other brands

    • I'm still undecided on this too, I've a DS918+ and UniFi Gateway and Switches, just do "Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus"

Going the Synology NAS Route with cheap'ish ONVIF cameras, and then $89, $269, or $499 for Synology Camera License packs for 1, 4, and 8 respectively.

Of the Unifi route with G3 Flex cameras at $149 each, there are no camera license fees for Unifi gear….

Typing the above out, and reading back to myself I think I just convinced/justified to myself to go the Unifi route.

      • But is the g3 flex the one you want?

        • For the most part, I think so
