Picture Quality on Foxtel on New Samsung Q9FN Is Not Very Good

Hi guys.
I've just purchased a Samsung 65" Q9FN.
The picture quality is superb when watching 4K videos off YouTube and Netflix.
However, it is quite a let down when watching things off Foxtel that are off the normal channels.
I don't remember the quality being this bad on my 55" Samsung that was 5 years old (paid $4k for it 5 years ago so it was top of the range).

I'm assuming this is simply because standard definition content just doesn't look good on a TV that big?
Is there a setting I may have missed?
I heard somewhere about HDR needs to be turned on or similar as it is off by default.
I don't really understand what this is- I found an option called HDR+ but it seems to just make the colours look a little worse.

The SD channels? How does SD FTA look?

Probably about normal too, given the difference in quality between SD and 4K.

    • The upscaling engine must be having a heart attack trying to make SD into 4K, especially on a 65" screen, it's just going to look crap.

The fact that Foxtel charges extra for HD content is complete bullshit in this day and age.

  • what Foxtel box do you have ? I use a IQ 2 and it looks fine on my 65inch, I cant select 4k though ..you need IQ 3 or higher for that.

  • Was your old TV a 4K / UHD TV or a normal 1080p TV?

Because this might just be a case of "Once you go _______, you can't go back." Once you've watched 4K content and gotten used to that, everything else will just look worse in comparison.
