Description from firstchoice website:

Product Details
In 1869, The Ripy family built the foundations of what is known today as the Wild Turkey Bourbon distillery. Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon is still produced using the same traditional technique, handcrafted by Master Distiller Eddie Russell alongside his father Jimmy Russell. Combined, the pair have over 97 years of experience and are the only active father and son Master Distiller team in the world.

Rare Breed is abarrel-proof bourbon meaning it is bottled directly from a variety of barrels at the proof it reaches in those barrels with no added water to lower the proof or dilute the flavour. This bourbon is a unique marriage of Wild Turkey 6 to and 12-year-olod stocks, which give the whiskey a rich exceptional flavour that is remarkably smooth considering its high alcohol content

Or open a new account with Boozebud buy this along with something else worth $5 to get over the $100 spend and get $25 off plus free delivery with code 25BUD. $75 All up then.

    • Interesting, they are showing the old release of the 112.8 proof bourbon. But would still be a good deal if you didn't mind waiting for the delivery.

      • They're getting better for delivery lately, I'd be surprised if it wasn't with you by Friday this week.

Looks like its on special for $83 at woolworths/BWS (https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/74045/wild…)

I've had it before, and its a very good drop (it does need a teaspoon of water to mellow it a bit though), but I think value for money, I'd go with the Wild Turkey Longbranch when its on special ($55-ish from BWS/woolies) or the WT 101.

But definitely worth trying at least once, if you've never tried a high-strength bottling.

    • How is the longbranch? Does it compare to gentleman Jack?

      • Its been a very long time (4 years?) since I tried gentleman jack, but I remember it being a smoother, easier-to-drink, inoffensive version of JD. Nothing to write home about, but easy to enjoy if you liked the basic JD taste profile.

I think the longbranch is more akin to a less aggressive version of WT 101 - same family of taste profile, but I found it more pleasing as a sipping whisky for just chilling out, whilst still retaining a satisfying level of complexity.

I personally would take the Longbranch over Gentleman Jack every time, but it depends on what you're used to, and what you want. If you're a JD drinker, and just want something thats familiar, but better, then Gentleman Jack is an easy upgrade. If you already drink Gentleman Jack, then its worth trying out other whiskys in the same price range - Longbranch, Blantons, Four Roses, WT 101, Jim Beam Small Batch, Woodford Reserve, etc.

  • This used to retail at Dan's for 70~75ish 😭
