  • Bit noob at this, are we supposed to top up our accounts with say $100 to get more LItres? I had only topped my account up with $20 to start and only managed to lock in the price for 16L using the ethereal app

    • +1

Yep. You need to have money in your 7 eleven account to top up more. It will only go to the max money you have in the account

    • +2

Yes, more money means more lt.

    • For some reason I've found it works best to top up the account first, lock second. Sometimes when I try the lock and top-up in 1 it bugs out and I miss the deal. Since topping up separately first then locking in it's been fine every time. YMMV.

  • Hi, ozbargainers, i never use price lock before. I was wondering whether I have to fill the tank at the station where I locked the price? or I can lock at one station and purchase the voucher, then fill the tank in any 7-11 petrol station?

    • +1

You can lock in Tasmania (if they have 7-11 there) and fill in QLD if it's within 7 days.

      • thanks, mate. I am installing the apps now. so it more like lock the price and prepaid and then fill in 7 days.

      • Don't think there is any 7-11 petrol station in TAS. I was in TAS in Dec/Jan couldn't find any, forced me to use Coles/Shell 10cents coupon from flybuys.

Finally a fuel deal in my neck of the woods

  • -7

I fuelled up with Caltex last time and have noticed a significant improvement in my car's performance compared to this petrol.
    Probably cheap for a reason.

    • -1

Yeah and 9/11 was an inside job.

    • If this really is the case, then the previous servo must have been mixed with water. There is absolutely no reason you should notice a 'significant' improvement between servos. Unless you have some extreme bias against Mobil fuel which supplies 7/11.

  • Do we see any significant difference in mileage between use of U91 vs U98?

Also, I know U91 mileage is better than E10 though not sure by what %?

    • -3

You will see zero benefit if your engine wasn't designed for higher octane fuels. In fact, it actually is worse for performance than U91.

Ethanol is worse by around 3% iirc.

      • That's not quite true.

Using a higher octane fuel (than what the manufacturer suggests) may increase performance slightly as the engine will be able to run higher compression. You probably won't be able to notice as most engines wont be able to adjust the timing to the point where it can take full advantage of the higher octane fuel. Also you may notice a slight increase in fuel economy but the difference definitely does not justify the normal price premium of higher octane fuels. U98 will not perform any worse than U91.

E10 (Which is petrol with 10% ethanol) will have worse fuel economy due to ethanol being a less energy dense liquid than petrol. From a performance perspective, E10 usually has an octane rating of 94. This means E10 will perform (slightly) better than U91.

    • I tried my previous car on 91, 95 and 98 each for a few months and found no difference in the cost between running 91 vs 98 (95 was marginally more expensive), as the better usage rate was almost exactly offset by the difference in price.

I subsequently ran 98 mainly due to the better range out of the same tank - gave me more time to find cheap fuel. Worth noting that despite price cycles Iโ€™ve found 98 is generally fixed 16-18c above the 91 price, so at the top of the cycle the price premium is less in percentage terms which improves the comparison.

      YMMV

I just sogned up to try this and loaded in $40.

Now only got 7 days to fil it up? Shit i just filled up yeaterday

Is there any way to get the balance back off the 7 eleven card/account?

      • Yes you can use your balance to make fuel purchases by showing your 'My Card' barcode.

      • Just use it to pay for fuel or snacks at 7/11

  • Can I lock this if I am based in Sydney?

    • You can, it doesn't show where you locked.

  • I need help. I locked last night and get the fuel today. I would like to lock again to use after 7 days, but I can't. I can go through the search and select the amount I want to lock, but after click the lock button, it just goes back to the start page again. No voucher generated. I have tried logout, restart phone, change the mock-up app, but none of them works. Is there a timer I need to wait until I can lock again?

    • Same here. Tried on multiple accounts and different phones as well. Something wrong with the lock functionality.

      Price is still available though

    • +1

2 locks per device (device ID) per 24 hours.
Either find a second device to do it.. or find a way to change your device id.

      • Thanks for the tip, did not know before. I will wait for 24 hours and try again. Thanks.

      • Actually I did lock twice yesterday but on 2 different accounts. I have tried just now after 24 hours of the first lock yesterday and I can lock now. Thanks again for your tip.

      • Thanks didn't know that before.
Might be the reason for me, for lock function not to lock the price.
Tried in website and it locked - filled up

  • $1.71 a litre, saved me quite a bit thanks

  • Surprised this price has lasted so long.

  • Cheers for this post mate! Got my fuel today and my mate couldnโ€™t believe it! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ
