  • +1 for the nostalgia alone. OK, not quite. I still reckon I could get three buckeroos of fun out of them.

Wings is the best game I ever played growing up. I am told some of the other ones are good too. Particularly it came from the desert.

    • +1

I played the shit out of Wings. The remake is pretty good, but a little unpolished, with incorrect mission text at times, and broken cheevs

    • The shame of it is, I've played the Wing's remastered edition and found myself quite disappointed with the gameplay. :(

    • +1

Wings was truly great, especially on Amiga. The music and sound effects alone were many times better than in lots of games of that era.

This post prompted me to google it and up came the remake - wasn't even aware! Shame it sounds average (from the comments below).

For those interested, the remake is on special at the moment - $4.30 (80% off) on Steam.

      • thank tycho - wings remastered time!!

  • +2

It came from the desert! Oh I loved that. I reckon it was based on the move "Them!", an old B & W movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4URRp39XOo

And I'm sure I played wings lots too. Would it still be worth playing though. Sometimes the old ones don't hold up so well.

  • +1

All games will run on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

    So not Win 10?

I loved these games back then, but I've never had much luck getting old stuff to run well nowadays…

    • +1

No windows XP, ME or 98 either :(

    • +1

dosbox is the program you can use to run all the old games

I use it on all my qfg games, as well as master of orion and the rpg forgotten realms and krynn series

  • cool. its came from the desert….. fantastic

  • +1

Wow some great games in there. Cost me a lot of time and sanity during the early 90s.

1998: "Holy crap the graphics in this game are incredible, give it two or three years and it will be photorealistic!"

2019: ""Holy crap the graphics in this game are incredible, give it two or three years and it will be photorealistic!"

Awesome games though, especially the ANTS game!!

Maaan a couple of those titles bring back memories of many a late night on my Amiga 500!

Was it even possible to win a Joust in Defender of the Crown?? What was with that lol.

    • +2

You can but i always aimed for the horse

To do it all you do is aim the highest part where it jumps up of the lance to the center of the enemy shield

    • +1

On the Amiga version it was pretty easy provided you played a character with strong jousting, it was a great way to win a ton of territory.

      • Commodore 64 version it wasn't too hard to win a joust

  • +1

Loved TV Sports Football and Basketball back in the day. Never played the baseball and boxing games but assume they are also terrific.

  • No "Beneath a Steel Sky"?

And why the asterisk near Rocket Ranger?

  • *German version only available for purchases made in Germany

  • There was a dodgy looking part FMV version of It Came from the Desert on the NEC PC Engine CD I remember too.

  • +1

I can write out the intro to It Came From the Desert from memory: "The desert…unchanged for millions of years, and yet witness to a biblical prophecy come true that one day the meek will inherit the Earth".

    • I remember it as 'shall inherit' rather than 'will inherit'.

  • Recommend grabbing the Amiga roms, especially for defender of the crown. The pc version was sadly of lower quality.

    UNDER 1min to read deal
Defend of the crown….Oh hell yes…
under 1 min to go to steam and press buy!!
    2mins later its installed!!

I'm 14 years old again, Russian nuclear reactors are melting down, Halleys Comet is in the nights sky - and im playing Defender of the crown on my Amiga!

    hell yes i bought this!

  • So are these out of the question for Windows 10 machines?

    • +1

Playing 'Defender of the Crown' right now on windows 10

  • +2

Cinemaware was my favorite studio for quite some time. Mostly played their games on Amiga back in the day. Feel like they should be part of my steam collection.

  • +1

Gonna need a joystick again for Wings… Look out Fritz.

  • +2

I think I'll buy just for Defender of The Crown alone.

  • Bought just for Rocket Ranger.
