Claiming GST via TRS on an Item Paid for via Telstra Hardware Repayment Option

I’ve purchased an Apple Watch via my Telstra plan where the repayments are split over 24 months.

I have a tax invoice with the item at its full price, then a line discounting the full amount stating Hardware Repayment Option. The summary states the full amount of GST charged, but total paid including GST is $0 as it’s a HRO agreement.

We leave for Singapore on Monday, if it’s possible I’d claim the GST on this purchase, do you believe it’s possible?

I didn’t even think of checking for a contact number on their website. Case closed.

  • I’ll be surprised if this works, just here to see what others advise

  • Well no halm in asking but I’d say there’s a very high chance they will say no given you haven’t paid in full…

Also if the total paid is $0 there is no chance

hi TRS, i havent actually paid for the item but would like to claim money back. is that cool?

    • Technically it’s charged to my account via contract and I’m responsible for the repayments over the set period.

You WILL be making the payments over 24months. You haven't so you get nothing. I'm sure Telstra is the real owner until the account is settled i.e. You have completed all the payments or paid out the device payments portion of the contract.

  • You can't claim what you haven't paid.

    Source: I'm an accountant.

  • You haven't paid that full amount in the last 60 days.

  • sounds like fraud.

  • Has to be fully paid. Can’t claim on anything you are paying off.
