    Is this good quality?

    • A 3-year warranty should give you peace of mind.

    Only 1300W for 10L capacity !! 🤔

Anyone with a Philips XXL (which I understand is the gold standard of air fryers) able to take a quick look and give an opinion?

    • +1

It's difficult to give an opinion without seeing it up close and being able to pull it apart, but as BlinkyBill says below, if it doesn't have a removable basket (and handle) it's probably no good for things like chips, dimmies etc…

I have the Philips XXL and it's been great for many types of food.

Really wouldn't call the Aldi one and "Air Fryer" more of an air convection oven. The selling point of an air fryer is the removable basket that you cant take out and shake contents while "frying".

    • Good point. That’s not an air fryer.

    • This and it might be harder to clean.

    • +1

The Aldi catalog I saw appeared to include a cylindrical basket, which looks like it mounts on the rotisserie rod. If so, it does the shaking for you!

The $69 air fryer at Kmart is smaller capacity but goes at 1500W at least

    • this air fryer is the best, read the reviews for yourself.

    • My Kmart airfryer has become my favourite appliance, I use it more than my oven now. It’s so so good!!! Makes the best pork roasts. I bought it immediately after seeing the posts on the Kmart airfryer Facebook group.

      • Do you think it is worth to give a air fryer a try, I never had them before in my life.

        • +2

100%, I questioned whether I needed it but now I use it almost every day, it just seems to do everything better and faster than my oven.

          • @Elision: I used to use deep fryer before, I think it is unhealthy, trying to find alternatives. Thank you

            • +2

@Yaren24: Yeah, it's the health factor that made me choose this over a deep fryer. I know there are things that just will be better fried but it's the closest option you can get to it whilst being much healthier.

Chips for instance are MIIIILES better in this than in a regular oven. Same with wedges. Very close to fried imo.

              • @Elision: It is so convenient to have something smaller and cheaper to run than a whole big oven. Like me only using the portable ovens all times as opposed to the big oven. I will wait probably for ALDI's $70 fryer, otherwise I will give this kmart fryer a shot, it seems to have a lot of positive reviews.Thank you

      • Second that. Been using it for 6 years and on the second one from Kmart.

  • Looks like the george foreman roaster I had years ago, just without the non-stick coating and fat catching thingy.

The wine fridge looks good on paper, although the biggest problem always seems to be they blow up before you even get to drink the wine. Anyone have any experience with these Stirling ones?

    • Yeah, that fridge looks good, I always wanted to buy a small spare fridge, I am just not sure how much power it will cost annually by having an extra small fridge?

      • Details say it's only 85W, and being double glazed means it should insulate pretty well and not be running 24/7 on cooling (only when it gets hot). Even if it was 24/7 it'd only be 50c a day or so.

I know basically nothing about wine fridges, but I couldn't find any other sub-$500 ones with double layer glass. Of course, that doesn't say how noisy it is, how well sealed it is or whether it's actually any good :/

  • What are some vegetarian dishes that cook well in an air fryer from your experience?

I just picture really dry stir fry stuff or pop corn for some reason.

I like shallow frying eggplant, tofu, potato, peas, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot, kidney beans, tomato, sweet potato all in a wok or saucepan.

Considered an air fryer once but concluded it was not really good for anything but maybe meat like chicken, sausages, some steaks, maybe pies? Etc.

I have an oven already for all that someone try sell me the utility of the air fryer because it seems that I need a deep fryer if anything not an air fryer.

    • They make amazing roast vegetables (I especially love making roast Brussel sprouts), anything with pastry too so vegetarian pies/pasties would be fabulous. Chips from potatoes or sweet potatoes, I’ve seen people make their own roast chickpeas and vege chips, kale chips.. uh. “Fried” dumplings, cakes, vegetable bakes like potato bake, vegetarian lasagne, baked potato, pizza, vegetable schnitzels, eggs, felafel, baked apples.. the list goes on. It’s an amazing appliance that I use almost every day. It might be beneficial for you to search “vegetarian air fryer recipes” just to see the sheer variety of things you can make in it, because it’s pretty much anything you can make in a regular oven but it does it better. Many of the people in the Kmart air fryer Facebook group use it exclusively for their roast vegetables because it simply does a much better job crisping things up, with much less power usage and less cooking time.

      • Nice shop you reckon things like triangle pastry would do better in the air fryer?

It's just hit air isn't it no grill so you technically can't burn anything right?

I am thinking of getting one for chips, roast pumpkin and carrots maybe even potato.

        Seems better than the oven.

How is washing? Is it detachable or you have to wash the whole thing.

        • Yep, i've seen many posts on the facebook group where people have cooked things like spinach and ricotta triangles.

You can definitely burn things if you cook them too long, it's just like a really concentrated oven.

It is perfect for those things you mentioned.

Here's some pics some people posted of those sorts of things done with the kmart one, i'm sure any can make these well though.

The one I have is easy to clean, it has a compartment with an inner basket that you pull out by the handle, and then once removed there is a button you press on the handle which separates the basket from the lower section, both are non stick so they clean fairly easily. It's a good idea to just wipe down the element inside the machine after cooking oily things like roast pork etc though too.

          • @Elision: Is yours the Kmart one or Phillips one.

Looking for a really big one as we have a large household full of big eaters with guests over constantly so it is not uncommon to have to feed say 9 people randomly in the middle of the week out of the blue.

Basically we do heavy batch cooking many times a month.

            • +1

@AlienC: I have the kmart one, which is definitely too small for that many people. Most people who have large families buy 2 of them. There are larger air fryers out there though so probably another brand would be more suited to you than the kmart one. It fits a decent sized whole chicken or pork roast in it but there isn't a lot of surface area to cook large batches of things that have to be spread out. You can buy inserts that double the space by giving it a second level though.

  • There are many different versions of air fryers. The Philips is well reviewed but in my experience it lacks a number of key features. The first is the ability to see the food that you're cooking. That is a deal killer for me. Second there's no cage or automatic paddle to rotate or push food around - it relies on you shaking the food at intervals. Third they have very small cooking volumes for their overall size.

  • Hi Guys,

Does anyone here know what's the difference between the Kmart vs Phillips airfryer? Do they both do the same thing and taste the same? And Is the build quality much better with the Phillips?

    Tx.
