    Samsung 860 QVO 2TB for $339 at Mwave.com.au

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/samsung-860-qvo-2tb-25-sata…

Samsung 860 QVO seems to be marginally faster.

    • Tlc vs qlc and durability difference

The QOV has a higher write endurance 720TB vs 500TB, and they both have a 3 year warranty.

    • QVO = slow writes (worse than HDD) as soon as you exhaust the cache. I believe this model is more comparable to the 860 EVO.

That is important to know, but you might be referring to the 1TB version which has a smaller cache, and which cache runs at half the speed. I'm not sure any HDD is faster than the QVO 2TB.

This shows the QVO 2TB to be faster than the above SSD.

AnandTech reviews it and shows it to be significantly faster than HDD and equal to other SSDs. Look below at the QVO 4TB version in the benchmarks as it has the same cache size and speed as the 2TB, while the 1TB has the smaller sized cache running at half speed.

It won’t show up in the benchmarks or most reviews because most benchmarks don’t exhaust the cache and the only other way to reveal the write slowness of QLC is to fill the drive. 99.9% of people won’t notice 98% of the time, but yes it is possible in certain circumstances to get even the 2TB drive to perform way slower than a mechanical hard drive when writing data.

Of course when doing random reads or using the cache it’s still going to be nice and zippy. I’ll pick one up at some point to store all my old raw photos. But I wouldn’t use it for something like an SSD cache in a NAS.

@afordprefect: The Anandtech review I linked above actually shows the benchmarks of it empty and full. The 4TB (same speed as 2TB) is still fast using it full.

So here we have someone saying the QVO is less reliable, yet they have same warranty and the QVO has a higher write endurance. We have someone saying the QVO is slower, yet the benchmarks shows it is faster. Then you say its slower when full, yet the benchmarks of it full shows it is fast. Where does everyone get the bad opinion of the QVO? Why do three people think it is a bad choice, is there something I'm missing as it seems to be more durable, faster and cheaper than the SanDisk Ultra?
