  • Roughly how long can these beans stay good in their (unopened) bags?

I plan to purchase some end of May when I'm in Aus … I normally get through around 100g/week ..

    • I'm no expert, but I would say no more than a month. Under 2 weeks is what I aim for. It really depends on how much you care abiht freshness. To be honest I wouldn't be able to tell since I'm new to coffee.

    • All depends on roaster, roast style, storage etc. but generally well stored coffee will be fine to drink up to almost three months post roast.

Obviously they will be at their peak anywhere between 4 and 18 days post roast (again, dependent on roast depth and style) but they will still taste decent past that point.

Personally i don't use coffee past three weeks as a rule of thumb, but I've also cupped and pulled espressos of 3 month old coffee and aside from being a little flat, it has held up quite well.

    • Typically coffee beans require ~15-20 days to release Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from their(beans) internal cell walls and where you will get an ideal flavour profile.
Depending on the roaster, an average "best before" range would be 20-40 days POST ROAST (the date stamped on the bag), also all this only applies to whole coffee beans and not pre-ground beans.

I can only think of one true specialty roaster in Australia who's coffee often peaks at 20 days plus, and that's Ona.

The rest pretty much sit in the 7-14 day range (for espresso) and 4-10 day range for filter, even those using Loring's.

        • This is the case often with Ethiopian beans but varies greatly between countries and processing methods and also how it is roasted.

This is not a finite timeline and has many variables involved. Some Yemen coffee we had only needed around 24hrs to degas!

The degasing time is never a included when judging as it is how it tastes that matters and not how long it degasses. The SCAA does not factor in degassing into their scoring model but you should be able to find more about q grading and cupping on their website

There is also a lot of innovation now in the industry and with processing methods with farmers ie fermentation and pressure systems etc that change these parameters :)

          Hope this helps :-)

    • It takes me a while to go through 2kg of coffee as well. I find that freezing the coffee and freshly grinding frozen coffee every morning works best for me to lock in the flavour.

There have been a few studies showing that whilst nothing beats fresh coffee, freezing is a much better alternative than storage at room temperature. For the cost of this coffee, I am more than willing to sacrifice a little bit of quality. Keeping it in the sealed bags and minimisation of exposure to oxygen will lower the oxidation rate of phenolic acids in the coffee, which once oxidised will impart a greater astringent/ bitter flavour.

      YMMV.

  • Can I ask why this is 480g rather than 500g?

    • postage. aus post are stingy when it comes to weighing

  • Could you do 2x Fortitude 480g for $35?

Don't require express postage. Thanks :)

  • Hey, ordered on tuesday, and haven't heard anything from you guys. Definitely been billed, but haven't even received an email receipt. Tried calling but your phone is permanently engaged.

    Thanks

Not sure why you got negged twice…I'm in the exact same situation! I tried calling too…

    • So ,the order arrived a little over a week after I ordered it.
I only got a shipping tracking number the day that it should've arrived (would have preferred it earlier). Basically I never got a card from auspost, when my wife was home all that day.

That being said. Despite struggling to contact you guys, the coffee is bloody brilliant. I would strongly recommend manna beans. Beans are good quality, and at a competitive rate compared to many of the popular roasteries in sydney.

Thanks Manna Beans! Will shop again with you guys for sure :)

  • Same here. Ordered on Sunday and nothing. This hasn't happened before.

  • I ordered off them on Friday, normally takes 2 days for delivery but so far nothing. Sent them an email but no reply.

  • I ordered on Sunday. Shipping notification via PayPal last night and on-board for delivery today. I am in the same city.

Can't wait! Tried a different roaster for my last batch and missed Manna's flavours.

    • I ordered Monday and usually, they get it out the day of order with delivery the next day if in Brisbane. This is the time, of course, I leave it to last minute and I am absolutely climbing the walls now for some coffee…

I'm drinking tea like a bloody invalid ffs.

  • Ordered Monday and still haven't heard anything?? I'm now out of coffee..

Very sorry guys, Flora and I had a motorbike accident whilst visiting a coffee farmer we've been working with in Chang Mai.

He just won 1st place in SCATH (Specialty Coffee Association Thailand).

We got hit by a ute travelling at 130-150kph :(

Incredibly survived except one of Flora's shoes that went off the mountain and a couple of bags of coffee that we gave to the Police lol. We had to delay our return to allow injuries to heal before flying back.

This did cause a delay by a couple of days for our team at the roastery and although shipped, not all tracking numbers could be sent out at time of shipping. All orders are up to date and everyone should have got coffee within a few days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If anyone hasn't received their order then please shoot through an email as on occasion Aus Post may make a mistake and we can follow up for you.

Happy Easter guys and thanks for you're support :) Have some amazing new coffees landed for you guys!!!!

    Simon

    • Sorry to hear, but good to hear no serious injuries!

I don't suppose you'll have a new deal going up any time soon?

      Cheers,
