Definitely not the cheapest they've been but I can't recommend these enough even at this price! I paid about this amount for the black version approx. 13 months ago and it's now one month off paying itself off completely when considering the cost savings per shot compared to using a Nespresso and buying Nespresso capsules (18c for Beans per shot vs 80c per Nespresso capsule) but of course there's the added benefits of far less waste matter and the huge variety of beans & grind settings allowing you to get the exact flavour you want.

  • Anybody have thoughts on this vs infuser + smart grinder pro? Which would be better? I assume the smart grinder pro would give you better control over your grind?

I would recommend to just get this, one less appliance and it has about 12 different grind settings to customise how fine you want it. I find I need to fine tune grind size depending on the brand of bean.

Yeah, I was surprised how much I had to ride the grind control in the early days when we were trying out different brands & types of beans but was even more surprised at how the quantity and tamper pressure also made a massive difference on top of that. We ended up settling for Bay Beans because we really liked their flavour, they didn't sour after a few days like some others and last of all they're stupidly cheap at $50 for 2kgs inc. Delivery. Streets ahead of Nespresso. Should've done this 10 years ago!

I'm keeping an eye out for the BES920 on sale, but it looks like it can't be bought separately from the grinder, is there a way to buy it separate? Already have a grinder.

Maybe I'm just better off with the BES870. I'm not that big of a coffee snob

    • +1, want a BES920

  • I'd love one of these but i'm finding it hard to pull the trigger… Anyone got any convincing arguments for one?

    • They make great coffee, close to as good as the coffee shop in my opinion, better if you consider you can tailor it to you exact preference. They tend to only last about 4 years though, that’s making 3-4 x per day - 6000 coffees. YMMV. Use descaler and filtered water to improve longevity.

Looks like they don't post to western Australia

    • Damn :(

Excludes: Northern Territory, Perth Metro, QLD Far North, SA Regional, VIC Regional, WA Regional, WA Remote, PO Box

Will have to wait for the next deal on the BES870.
