  • music pro player has to many permissions for me, but thanks for the effort

  • Lecture notes - so you can record everyone without your permission.

Exactly what my uni does with everyone's permission.

    • Surely privacy isn't expected in a lecture theatre

      • It's a condition of enrolment that you agree to have your voice recorded for academic purposes. This doesn't extend to third parties.

It's technically illegal to record someone without their express consent (at least in NSW, laws vary by state, interestingly QLD seems to be the least strict).

So it won't be a problem for the lecturer, might not be a problem for you but if it ever gets shared there's a legal case.

        • qld is single party consent last time i checked

          • @belongsinforums: Yeah QLD seems to be more lax. Fines for if you aren't a contributing party yet still record are $4000 or so. Recording conversations is technically still legal in QLD (and NT)

Whereas in NSW you can be looking at up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $11000 fine, recording without others permission is illegal.

Interesting how different states have such different laws.

        • If it's for personal use I don't see why there should be a problem

          • @rygle: Well, it's not a problem unless you get caught. It can be done very inconspicuously or very obviously.

The problem is recording someone without their permission.
The Surveillance Devices Act 2007 (NSW), Section 7 states that it's illegal unless "reasonably necessary for the protection of their lawful interests"
