    Great price.

I have owned this unit but subsequently returned it. My main gripe was that the receiver used approx 22 watts of standby power when the receiver was used in pass-through mode. My Yamaha uses under 2 watts. Of course, if you don't use passthrough this won't be an issue, or even at 22 watts, it might not be a concern.

Other minor cons: very basic on-screen display controls, most features are only accessible via the LED screen (even the cheapest Yamaha models have all their settings controllable via OSD). Most of the rear speaker connectors are the cheaper spring loaded type.

Pros: Sounds great. Great looking minimalist slim design. Nice simple remote.

    • How much power it use in standby? And normal operation?

      • The standby power was only a watt or two. I didn't test the "on" wattage. I only bothered testing the power consumption when I realised the unit was very warm when I assumed it was off, which turns out to be the "Passthrough-Standby" mode.

    • Which yamaha do you have? Am looking for a receiver.

      • RX-V385. It's an entry-level 5.1 model, but importantly handles all 4k HDR modes and DTS-HD(as does the Sony).

    • I got a yamaha uint, which is broken. I was thinking of switching to this but How my subwoofer going to work, at the moment power is connected to yamaha unit. Is that mean I need to get a new subwoofer as well?

    • I need a new receiver since my Denon is dying (L&R channels drop out randomly unless i have the volume over a certain (i.e. too loud) level. Unfortunately one of my main stipulations is Airplay 2 support and unfortunately Sony and Yamaha are failing on that front so far. Annoyed i missed out on the Pioneer slimline deal not long ago.

      • my Denon is dying (L&R channels drop out randomly

Sounds like dry solder joints. You could try reflowing some solder over the capacitors if you're handy with an iron.

      • Yeh I'm hanging out for another Denon or Marantz deal. They seem to be the ones actually interested in building good software support for new technologies.

I always wonder why Sony never include their 8 ohms power THD rating . It's like they have don't want to reveal their low power output so that it can't be compared to the competitors. I find this is very poor marketing if they boast only TOTAL Watts instead, to make it sound good and mislead consumers entering the av world.

Before long they'll start quoting their power ratings in PMPO!

  • Any AV buffs like to chime in? this or a Pioneer VSX-932?

  • This or the Marantz NR1608?
