OzBargain Searching Bug. VPN Vs Nord

There was a deal for Nord VPN yesterday, so I searched for it using the search bar, but didn't get the result I expected, ie this deal:

3 Year VPN Plan USD$107.55 ($151.56) + 56% Cashback via Shopback [New Customers only] @ NordVPN

Search for Deals (active):

VPN: got 2 pages of deals but not the nord one above.

Nord: get 7 results with nord vpn deal being second one.

The title clearly has VPN in it, is there a reason why the OzBargain search doesn't find it?

Sort by post date not relevance

    • Yes that works and get load more results. Perhaps relevance shouldn't be the default or there is a bug in that filter?

You can Set "post date" as your default by hitting the save button.

  • When I type VPN in the seaech bar it reccomends the above deal before I hit search.

  • VPN: got 2 pages of deals but not the nord one above.

Just in case you want more technical explanation. "VPN" is a high frequency keyword, and the search backend basically returns too many results (we are using Sphinx for full-text indexing) where that NordVPN deal was not included in the initial result set (hard-coded at 250). Expiry check is performed after we obtained the result set from the search backend as part of 2nd stage filtering.

A bug? Yeah. Something that can be fixed? We'll need to get Sphinx to index the expiry date as well so filtering can be done during the search (not in the 2nd pass). Probably not a priority at the moment.
