Fantastic price for contender of 2018 phone of the year.

In other news, the similar Mate 20X (7.2" screen, same camera, same CPU, no B28, 1080p, headphone jack) is currently only $965 from Mymobile.com.au. Grey import though.

Make sure you get the L29 international version vs the cheaper chinese Al00. Chinese version has issues with Google voice services and doesn't allow 3rd party launchers along with Chinese bloat that can be a pain to remove.

I bought an L29 for $1040 recently, seller threw in the pen for free. No problems with B28. Getting faster speeds than s9 in syd suburbs.

      • So Mate 20 x L29 has B28?

        • No it doesn't. I meant you don't need it if your in the 'burbs

          • @krisspy: So you never leave the burbs? Telstra/Optus regional reception is almost entirely B28.

  • +1

good price if i haven't order p30 pro, will definitely go with this

  • +1

Looking forward to seeing what the Mate 30 Pro brings later this year.

  • +1

Can you still get the bonus watch?

  • +2

This phone is a beast man… Currently using it

    • Absolutely… It can do SO much more… Stuff?

    Sensational phone

I had this and changed to a Samsung S10+ and this phone shits all over that.

Unfortunately, the thought of getting a new phone after 6 months won over replacing it with the same phone (had green tint issue)

    • +6

      phone shits all over that.

      sounds messy

  • -7

Still not under $1k, still overprice.

Would get a note 9 instead for better videos at 4k. Mate 20 pro video stabilisation is poor for the price you pay. Worse than Oneplus 6T for videos

Tried the EMUI it's pretty bad on the p20 pro doubt mate 20 pro is better.

    • +5

I call this bs.. At what price do you think its not "overpriced"?

Also I've been using since release date, no issues with emui at all. Lightning fast

      • +4

Also super happy with EMUI. Unbelievably fast coming from my S8+ and don't have any functional complaints.

      • -4

This phone should be around $850 $900 mark at this point. Huawei is pricing itself at high end market.

Considering its last year's flagship and P30 released plus it had so many issues first released

        • +2

Dude you basically talking about a product without actually using the product…

Your 5 mins spent playing with a demo phone at your local telecomm store does not count..

Phone is packed with modern day tech features - 3D face recognition, in-screen fingerprints, snapdragon processor and not to mention - the camera..

I get it if you say the video quality is not as good as some of the other phones out there but the stabilisation is actually awesome..

  • Saw a lot of used mate 20 pro on ebay, facebook and gumtree without box, they're selling them so cheap.
Any idea why most of them are without box? Seems very dodgy

    • -3

      Because they are used?

    • Yeah saw that as well. Like $650-850

    • Because they all got green ti it problems!?

  • -4

    Huawei sponsored by US government

I got a mate 20 pro with optus, probably wouldn't do it again. Issues I've had:
    -green tint issue
-microphone randomly not working and only starts working again after a reset (but don't know until later when watching a video that I filmed)
-very slow firmware releases. Which is an optus specific issue.
-can't control telephoto lens use, it will switch between digital zoom and optical zoom. I read that under poor lighting conditions or when it can't focus properly it switches automatically. Can tell from quality of the photo. Can't force it to use the telephoto lens even if you've got 5x selected.

Yup exactly too many Huawei fans here. They just neg everything when it comes to negativity about the product.

It has bad 4k video stabilisation
1080p screen (the reason on good battery life due to this a big capacity cell)
      Slow launcher under MIUI
      Bad front facing camera
Its fast charge heats up phone considerably when compared to other brands. It's fastest but it will kill your battery faster too due to heat. Go check youtube

S9 note is cheaper at a better price than this. Overall better buy

If you only want to take photos maybe this is the phone for you

If you want a complete package not really

I also got the mate 20 pro with optus just a couple of weeks ago and i'm not thrilled.
The OS has glitched a few times resulting in a blur of crazy colours, temporary freezes, unresponsive power button and a black screen when opening the camera app.
It's very heavy in comparison to my last phone and I can't get used to the keyboard wrapping around the curved edges.
Coming from a flagship Xiaomi which I found to have exceptional build quality, amazing performance while new and MIUI new i'm not impressed.

The free Huawai GT watch I've found to be terrible. It looks great on the wrist and battery lasts for days but I often switch back to my old fitbit surge for functionality. It takes numerous attempts to turn on the screen just to check time which promptly goes blank again, the limited faces are very unclear and very few have a good combination of time & date, the functionality with apps is practically non-existent just generic notifications and functions like timer are awful. I can see why they're giving it away for free.

  • Why would you get this when you can get the Huawei P30?

  • -1

have fun with your green tint screen, btw its not fixed.

    • +4

Yes it is. The first batch had that issue, I haven't seen any complaints about the new ones. Mine is 4 months old and no screen issue.

      • I had a new one and its still there, go low light with grey background its still there..

        • +1

No such issue on mine, even with a grey background and minimum brightness. Uniformity is much better than the S8+ it replaced with a grey BG. Does yours have a BOE or LG panel?

    • Fully agree. Huawei also denied product defacts initially until ausdroid push them

I wouldn't trust them they sounded like LG on bootloop. There were endless threads from Optus customers for a few months that Huawei denied everything and keep returning the bad green tint batch

    • +2

      Ignorant comment.

Their phones are top notch now with great tech and specs

    • +4

if you're paying over $500 for the latest Apple phone with outdated spec and feel I'am afraid you're doing it wrong

      • Apple really just playing catch up to android phones since past few years.

  • -5

Still overpriced, none of the 2019 phones have such a massive notch. Camera has been obsoleted by P30 series.

    • Besides: Issues with green tinting, memory management and camera zoom.

      • I don't have any of those issues on mine..

  • +1

Nowdays people are getting huawei instead of iphone or samsung🌝🌝🌝. Interesting

  • Are there similar samsung functions like these in huawei or apps?

1: bixby brief alarm - it plays a different tunes depends on the weather and read out the time in not a robot sound.
2: samsung flow - using windows app to CONTROL your mirrored phone.
3: samsung dex, desktop like interface when plugged into HDMI.

    • 2 - Samsung Flow only allows you to view the phone screen, not control (same as Huawei).

3 - Yes - EMUI desktop which is much the same re: functionality.

      • samsung flow can control , i use it every day.

        • Ah, seems like there's Samsung Sidesync which allows control + mirroring.
