MLN Lenovo i7, 8GB, ATI Graphics - $996 after cashback

100

I am an IT systems admin and for the first time bought Lenovo for the company this week, can't comment on the brand as of yet but i can say this is a good price for the specs and its a good looking laptop IMO.

The graphics chip should be able to play most games in medium graphics settings.

No, that's a very quick CPU.

Are you calling Core i7 CPUs slow?

      It's not, it's a 1.73GHz with turbo boost to 2.93 GHz…

      • but its not sandybridge :P

  • I thought a IT system admin would be using something better

A sys admin buys bargains for the workers, to save enough money to buy a wicked machine for themselves.

      • I like this :-)

    • Very few sys admin duties require a "better" personal notebook.

    But title says 8GB?

    • Silly me.

      BONUS 8GB RAM UPGRADE
Upgrade from 4GB to 8GB during Promo Period

  • "BONUS 8GB RAM UPGRADE".. on the website

  • hows the battery life? if its more than 8+ hours i would buy it right now

It's an I7 with discrete graphics … you're kidding right?

      • so does a macbook pro
but its advertised at 7 hours

    • Thanks! I needed a good laugh

for a company, it is not a good idea.

    • Buy a Thinkpad for the business. Y Series, the quality is so so so poor.

      • I would get a lower spec, business series laptop with three year warranty.

    • Might want to check if cc offers:
Warranty: 1 Year Onsite Pick Up & Return

Also keep in mind the 8gb ram upgrade..

Page 52 is a reply from Lenovo about the screen issues and a bios update has been released as well as new graphics drivers to resolve the issue.

"In reply to your prior post with link to earlier post with compiled issues:

      1) Ants around the edges - this should be resolved by BIOS 59 or later (since they are inclusive of earlier updates) and updating to the latest video drivers that Lenovo offers. We have not seen the ants on systems in our possession running these updated versions.

      2) Gradients - The gradients have been improved by these same updates. When any LCD is tilted off the 90 degree viewing axis, there will be some degree of shading or change as the angle to your eye changes. This will happen on any LCD, but may be more or less pronounced depending on the type of diffuser and whether it has a gloss or matte finish."

  • My first thought when I saw the pic was "water damage!"

It has been a month and I'm still waiting for my refund cheque from MLN. Worst customer service ever. I will never deal with them again.
