JB Hi-Fi Drops Soniq Brand

According to CN (see link below) JB has dropped the Soniq Brand and they are now looking for a new retailer.
They are trying to offload the stock they have to AusPost and Kogan and selling their tv's direct through their website.

Apparently JB have signed a deal with another Chinese brand that will be exclusive to Jb (not yet named)

Same article also mentions a major Japaneses brand has indicated its intention to exit the Australian market.

Take all this as you will.. CN is not the best of sources at times due to the bias of the reporting but the story looks pretty legit in this case.
The TV's are still for sale on the JB website at this stage however.

Japanese brand going, Toshiba maybe more likely than other brands mentioned. I thought maybe already gone, but… https://toshibatv.com.au/collections/all

Harvey Norman are selling ten TV models from Akai!
Three Teac models on JB HiFi website. Nothing showing up elsewhere in quick search, so might well be that brand.
All three of those around for decades.

Sanyo and Sharp gone for a few years now. Both big-selling brands when I was a kid, and along with Panasonic, all assembled at least some models in Australia. Hitachi too for a while, I believe.

Changhong were selling at HN, but not showing up in search above. Parent company has more Western-palatable brand, noticed just very recently. CHiQ.
Maybe that will be the new brand at JB HiFi.
One forlorn CHiQ fridge on The Good Guys website, but no TV's.

Maybe JB HiFi will source something and brand it themselves, with something very exciting.
Indeed exciting times and also twenty minutes of my life that I will never get back.
    :(

I can't believe they tried to sell the Soniq brand for $19 million haha. No wonder all 3 major retailers laughed and walked away.

  • JB’s selling another Chinese made tellie…

Need to update the BIG list.
