There's tree chopping companies that drop off whole truckloads on your front lawn if you ask them. They always advertise on gumtree.
Check with the council, they often sell it at the dump as they shred all the green waste there. Might not be great quality tho
Get it from your local landscape yard. Mulches are cheap. <$50 for a cubic metre. Pine or woodchip is always the cheapest.
Nearly all mulches do the same things. Retain moisture, suppress weeds, looks good & breaks down into soil providing nutrients.
Check with one of the tree removal companies - such as Taylors in Melbourne.
Don't use sugar can as it sucks the nitrogen out of the soil - Lucerne is better
