Best 1st Year Waived/Reduced Visa or Mastercard Annual Fee Credit Card Recommendations?

I just finished my first year with St George Amplify Black and cancelled it to avoid fees. I also have an Amex Platinum Edge and ING debit card for international travel

Am looking for the best Visa or Mastercard credit card that:
* either has the first year fees waived or reduced.
* has great points and perks for travel/other categories.

There used to be many options a year or so ago, but currently don't see any great options.

Love Barefoot and love ING, but also love points and free money. Credit cards aren't bad IF you can stay on top of them and pay off on time.

      • I hate all this debt is bad stuff people with no imaginations seem to push here so much. Like tgpraveen said, if you are smart debt can be to your advantage.

I love using other people's money to make money…

Why credit? Because if you are not a muppet you can most definitely make it work in your favour. I average roughly 20% return (cashback, effectively) on all purchases put through credit.

  • Credit cards are also the best way to get a reversal if there is an issue with goods/services being delivered. I’ve had credit cards since bankcard, if you know what you are doing, and get fee free, you can work with other peoples money short term and get points.

  • How about the Qantas Premier Platinum Credit Card?
    1st year 1/2 fee ($149)
    Insurance, lounge invites, etc.
70k QFF points in 1st year & 30k QFF points if you renew for the 2nd year (though annual fee then is $299). Spend conditions apply, of course.

Renewal can be had for half price also, you just need to ask them to make you an offer to keep the card when your annual fee is due

  • There aren't many deals going on except for Westpac i think and qantas premier

    • St George Amplify Black is probably the best one - unfortunately, am not eligible having recently cancelled.

CUA Platinum (Brisbane Heat) Mastercard is fee free and has the rewards program.
