  • I’ve heard this cruise line charges $20 per day in gratuities. So add an extra $140pp to the price.

  • I don't think gratitude payments are compulsory.. last cruise I went on (while ago now) we got the automatic gratitude payment turned off at the beginning of the cruise and decided on the amount to pay and to whom at the end of the cruise.

    Onboard Currency: Singapore Dollar

And it looks like $20aud per night gratuity is compulsory with this company:

Dream Cruises charges a per person gratuity as part of our cruise offering. The gratuity will be charged onboard to our guests’ stateroom folio at the end of the cruise, when the guest settles their onboard expenses.

Its so silly, why not just add it to the price…

      • +1

It's very sly… It's also sly that the OP (store rep) didn't mentioning it, and they also liked the post above that suggests you can opt out of paying it, they know damn well you have to pay it so why try to hide it from us!, it suggest to me that the rep is kinda dodgy..

      • To mislead consumers

      • " Gratuities charge policy is subject to change at any time."?

So if you don't pay the gratuity fee up-front it could change by the time you come to pay?

    • +2

That should be added to the price.

We do have laws surrounding Misleading & Deceptive conduct, and the OP should or would know that.

  • be careful of hidden charges on this cruise there are alot of complaints online, make sure to consider those charges as it brings the cost up significantly per night

  • Cattle aboard the cattle-truck.

  • +1

Misleading and deceptive, it's an extra $20/night as stated above.

  • Need to add exclusions in the description.

    i.e.

What's Included in My Cruise Fare:

When you book direct online, your cruise fare will already include port charges, taxes, and fees, except gratuities.

Dream Cruises charges a per person gratuity as part of our cruise offering. The gratuity will be charged onboard to our guests’ stateroom folio at the end of the cruise when the guest settles their onboard expenses. Gratuities, however, can be prepaid. You can include gratuities in your online booking. Gratuities charge policy is subject to change at any time.

They need to follow P&O, Carnival and RCI (and possibly others?) who now, due to customer feedback, have gratuities included in the advertised prices for cruises departing from Oz ports. Until then, it's a neg.

    • This ship/company is Chinese owned and operated so they seem to do things a little different to the western run companies..

      • +1

They just need to change their policy for the Australian market, this won't win them any fans…. Royal Caribbean made the adjustment whilst continuing to charge gratuities separately in other markets.

The cruse itself isn't a bad price, even at $104 per night… That said the ship is a bit dated (formally the Starship Virgo) and almost looks as bad inside as that horrible Carnival ship stationed in Oz.

  • I thought that Australian TAs were now required to include gratuities and other mandatory charges in the total cost. If you book through every TA I am aware of in Australia, they are included. Even in overseas cruises. I’m cruising Dubai to Singapore next month and they are included. RT from Stockholm in July and they are included. RR from HK in dec and Jan and they are included.

I thought this was due to some sort of advice from the ACC. I have friends who book via American TAs fir Australian cruises and the gratuities are not included.

I don’t think it is the location of the cruise but the location of the booking out.

    This must be some mistake.

I’ve seen a dream line cruise in Asia and it looked vile. I don’t know about this ship. I love that itinerary however. I’d prefer an all Australian cruise than yet another one to the South Pacific.

  • So bad with the gratuity
