might want to mention that's per person

  • How are you seeing $739?

    • +3

Requires you to change it to 4 people on the pricing screen.

Also sounds like a lovely lady this 'Nora'

        • Nah its a problem when the cooks dont wash theirs.

    • +22

Not sure what that's got to do with anything. He died while snorkelling.

    • +12

S/he didn't die on the cruise ship.

      • +3

Conversely, people die on cruise ships all the time. Seems a lot of old people like to go out swinging.

        • +1

Conversely, people die off cruise ships all the time. On land, in planes, everywhere. Should cruise ships have a magical aura of immunity that people wouldn't die onboard?

    • +33

You'd be great on the news, fearmongering for no reason.

    • +20

I don't know where to exist.

I like my house, but people die in them
I want to travel but people die on planes
I want food but pedestrians and cyclists get hit by cars
I can't drive, someone may crash into me and kill me

You have shown this cruise is deadly too

Where do you exist that's safe @donga100

According to ai, in a rough world wide average, there is 1 natural death per 150000 guests on cruise ships. About 200 annually. Hardly reason to not travel on a cruise ship.

Then did another ai inquiry, There are an estimated 17.5 million hotel rooms worldwide.
      - Assuming an average occupancy rate of 66%, and using global mortality rates, one Reddit user calculated that about 13.6% of hotel rooms may have had someone die in them over the past 20 years.
      - If you stay in a different hotel room every night for a week, the odds that at least one of those rooms has hosted a death could be as high as 64%.

Yeahhhhh, that's my query; never been on a cruise, is this actually a good trip for a young family?

      • +4

I’ve been on one short one (3 days). That was enough for me.

I’ve never been to Bali. But the cruise was like what I imagine Bali is like, except being stuck on a boat with the bogans.

Some people may like that. Each to their own.

        • +9

That's not really fair to Bali…

          • -1

            @kizzy: Yeah, an uneducated comment.

            • +2

@Spendmore: Nah, same clientele, drunk australian bogans

              • -1

@CharlieAus: I mean you just need to read all the comments right here on this deal complaining about how much the booze is. Heaven forbid they go 10 days without drinking on a family holiday.

      • +6

I’ve been on this trip (9 nights) and it’s fabulous for a family although I’m pretty sure I got COVID on the last day. I’ve booked several more so clearly I care more about bang for buck than catching illnesses.

          • @PainToad: The analogy of “Russian roulette” is seen by some as alarmist and unsupported by broader data.

      • +9

I'm on one literally right now. (10 days) Kids are 8 and 11. They love it

      • +1

Do a shorter one to test it out. I took the fam on the 4 night one from Syd to Moreton Island to give it a go.
Plenty to do for the 4 days, ate heaps, no one got sick. If you want to avoid the bogans then dont go to the Irish Pub at night. Plenty of families around when I went. No issues with passengers. No queuing up for food.
This was on the Carnival Splendour.

      • how old are the kids? cruises are amazing for families.. better than for single people.

        • The Fairstar was fantastic as a single in the 90s.

I notice security is much better now. 20yo me would spend the cruise in the brig for sure.

      • +1

I've been a few times. Cruises are great for several particular holidaymakers, but not great for adventurers imo.
They are great if you want to:
        * Drink all day
        * Hang around the pool all day
        * Read books all day
        * Play trivia non-stop for a week
        * Do and/ or watch karaoke
        * Relive your youth on the dance floor

They also have a casino if that's your thing.

1/2 those things seem to be great for families - and no cooking or dishes.

It's a good environment too, everyone is happy. (Those that aren't are sick in thier rooms and you never see them.)

      • Not for too young kids, at least they should be toilet trained or they are not allow to get into the pool even with swim nappy. There is kids club so you can put your kids there and will be more relaxing. We just went to a 3 nights cruise in April with my 4 & 6 yo and they love it.

    Bogans holiday

We can’t all afford Noosa like Prue and Trude.

      • nah Noosa

    • We met some people who have done dozens of cruises - many European (they are more expensive so presumed they attract a different crowd). I asked how Carnival rates, and they reckon that despite the others being worth the extra money, they've repeatedly done Carnival cruises also.

My point is, you only hang with bogans if you fit in.

  • +5

What could happen with 4 ozbargainers in one room for 9 nights ?

  • Good price OP, different question has anyone used this mob for booking ? I’’m trying to book a first time cruise for 10 wondering if I go with this mob or go direct?

    • +8

We booked through ozcruising but found the communications to be very poor. Paid in full upfront several months prior but no email came through to confirm payment. Then no updates until a couple of weeks before cruise date. Almost got to the point we thought we'd been scammed. It's all on you to follow them up. Recommend going direct as you'll need to create an account with Carnival anyways to check in and select preferences.

      • Thanks heaps 🙏

    • +3

Absolutely avoid Ozcruising and book via Carnival instead. 100$ more but 100% better. Pure communications and 0 will to help, rejected all our requests.

  • -3

Just read some reviews….. prison food… lines forming for anything around the boat… sounds like heaven …

    • hmmm must have been people who sat in their room and sulked all holiday. Never see these people out enjoying themselves.

  • -1

Crammed four to a room, no window or balcony, on the cruise industry's answer to Hungry Jack's. Ugh.

  • -4

    Crappy Cruisliner..!

  • I hate cruise ships with a passion and obviously they are horrendous for the environment….. but this deal seems like amazing value.

    • -3

Best thing about cruise ships? That’s where all the people to avoid go on holiday

    • I was questioning this. With greenies whinging about cows, ICE cars, and everything else, why aren't they protesting cruise ships?

      • they are. venice is sinking due to cruise ships, the environmental effects just aren’t as obvious here

        • oh, I thought we were just talking about a totally unnecessary use of a fossil fuels.

I think cruise ships are the least of Venice's problems. I decided to look up what the real causes are:
          30% natural subsidence
          25% sea level rise
          20% groundwater extraction
15% tidal fluctuations and storm surges
7% urban development, non-cruise ship tourism infrastructure
          3% cruise ships

The question is, how much of rising sea levels and maybe increasing storm surges can be blamed on cruise ships…
          What contributes to global warming:
          25% energy production
24% agriculture, forestry & land use
          21% industry
          13% residential & commercial buildings, & miscellaneous
          10.1% road transportation
          3.0% waste management
          1.5% air transportation
          1.1% sea cargo
          0.7% non-road land transportation
          0.3% rail
          0.3% cruise ships & fishing

Now I see why they campaign against cows, if you're a vegan and don't want to give up electricity, it's the next best target.
And I see why no one cares about cruise ships, they're the least of our worries.

Thanks for prompting that investigation. I didn't even know Venice was sinking, let alone how insignificant the cruise ships effect is.

    • I agree re. the environmental impact, plus once you are onboard it feels like you are packed in with a den of pigs (fellow tourists) , but yet it is fun, all-inclusive, hard to go wrong and I tell myself that if i am only doing it once or twice in a decade I need not feel so guilty.

  • How much to add a drinks package?

    • +3

14.95 per day per person for soft drinks and juices unlimited
111.00 per day per person (rip off) for alcohol package. That's the deal breaker for me

      • And usually all four have to buy the booze package, that cancels me out of ever going on a cruise with my family.

        • +1

You can take your own alcohol onboard - 4 peoples worth wouldbe plenty. I crused with Carnival and the softdrink add-on was only $9.50 per day - heaps of people just buy that and add their own spirits.

      • +2

Until you see that drinks are $20 a pop.

That's prob one of the benefits of cruising, I drank nothing but water for 9 days.

  • +1

interior room, more like inferior room lol

  • This is not a deal lol….balcony at 1200pp maybe…celebrity had a pricing error a couple weeks ago 20 nights Hawaii to Sydney balcony for $1700pp….interior room should always be less than $1k otherwise it’s a rip off

Edit: misread the title..I’ll happy accept Shame_Shame_Shame.gif

    • celebrity had a pricing error a couple weeks ago

It's an annual "error" :) - repositioning cruises are not popular.

      • I mean it was 1700 balcony and concierge class so was definitely a pricing error because when I went to book they said book now before we update our price list thanks for pointing it out to us 🤣

  • only problem it's in sydney

    • Yes but then where would they find bogans to fill the ship?

    • That explains the traffic jams!

  • -5

How TF is this a deal …. $65 pp twin share, for a departure in 3-4 months would be a deal …

This however, would be perfect for a 3sum with strangers and even have space left over for one cuck.

    • -1

Lols thanks for the negs …. too bad its true - there were like 3-5 of these last year …. with this example at $64.20 pp twin share,

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866074

How is it legitimately a deal when the comparison is made for 4 people sleeping in 1 room?

Maybe a specific demographic - in 20's and travelling with mates …. any maybe a nice romantic holiday with your partner and 2 randoms watching ….

      • maybe a nice romantic holiday with your partner and 2 randoms watching

charge them double to cover you and partner's fare, then put on a nightly show. Filming? touching? that's a drinks package

Four people in an interior cabin for 9 nights. You'd need to be very good friends. Maybe two swinger couples.

    • It’s the equivalent of using a Prius as an F shack for dirty Mike and the boys..IYKYK

    Nothing beats a jet2 holiday

  • +4

We booked a few times via OzCruising, but when we encountered issues, we discovered that their only support channel is WhatsApp — and they had zero willingness to help. They rejected every single request, even though Carnival later approved them all directly. Avoid OzCruising and book through Carnival instead, even if it costs $30 more per person. That’s just $120 extra for four people on a $3,000 cruise, and in return, you get proper phone support and a team that’s actually willing to assist.
