Myanmar holiday October 2019

Hi
We are visiting Myanmar for a week in October later this year. Flying in and out of Yangon.
Will bus it to Ngapali beach and back, given the time might have to skip Bagan (flights are too expensive- we can’t afford them).
Any ideas /tips as to what we can do in Yangon/ngapali and where we should do a stopover to break up the bus journey?

Using the local bus/shared taxis were way cheaper than flying.

The Sule Pagoda was much smaller than Shwedagon but both were enjoyable to visit and appreciate.

The Bogyoke Markets were worth a visit.

The area near the National Museum was quite a contrast to the rest of Yangon.

It was quite nice to have a drink near Chinatown…in 19th street.

Yangon is a good place to explore.

Bagan was very much worth the visit, IMO. An overnight bus could be the way to go.

Would also second Bagan as a priority - it's definitely worth it (even for 2 days - seeing the sunrise amongst the temples was absolutely breathtaking). If you've got time, the train from Yangon is a relatively affordable and scenic option, otherwise taking a bus which you can book online now isn't too bad (try getting a VIP bus if you can).

We managed to cram the Kalaw-Inle Lake route, Bagan and Yangon within around 8 days so it's definitely possible (though we were a bit pressed for time some days)

There's a few decent higher-end restaurants in Yangon such as Rangoon Tea House that might be worth checking out too - otherwise, do watch Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown in Myanmar for food recommendations.
