Whats the GPS part have to do with the phone mount?
The mount also holds a suitably sized GPS device, eg: Navman. Yes, some people still use dedicated GPS devices.
Oh but I would normally think you'll just use the mound provided by those GPS devices.
It's an alternative. Most GPS mounts are windscreen based, and some people don't like them.
