If you see a Belong deal with a prepaid tag, you can click the Report button and ask for the tag to be removed.

    • this i gone over months now..i brought it and shock to find out postpaid and need account number to port out. IF I KNOWN THIS I WILL NEVER JOIN BELONG.

just go with Catch Connect and Kogan which on sales right now…

  • It is not a plan with a contract, so it doesn't belong (ha) with that tag either. Closer to prepaid than contract so I think it is fine to be labelled that way.

    • seems like postpaid more than prepaid…it need account number to port out other providers.

we are in ozbargain easily Port out and Port in.

      • +3

How hard is it to provide the account number they give you when you want to port out?

Belong are not Prepaid so it should not appear on Prepaid Mobile Plan

Belong calls it a "post-paid plan". However, you are charged at the beginning of each period, therefore "prepaid".

    doesn't have auto-renew

Are you sure? Pretty sure they automatically charge you every month. From their "CRITICAL INFORMATION SUMMARY":
Following your initial payment on sign-up, you’ll be billed for subsequent monthly charges in advance on the same day each month.

i'm mean turn of auto-renew that's what most ozbargain wants plus importantly it's postpaid, prepaid where you doesn't need account number.

don't forget most prepaid like Catch Connect-amaysims have disable auto-renew, this make true prepaid…Belong are not prepaid but misleading people seems like prepaid.

      • no no no… it is "prepaid" for sure. You are charged at the start of each period, not the end.

I also don't understand what you mean by "it need account number to port out other providers"???

Also, you can't turn off auto-renew because Belong does not offer a "PAY AS YOU GO (PAYG)" service, unlike other providers.

        • -1

need to provide belong account number when you port into Voda-Kogan..ect before the plan ends from Belong since is a postpaid but important expect a charge when your plan expired.

          • +2

@apokalypsez: You are confusing "Prepaid - Pay as you go" with "Prepaid - Plan". They are both called prepaid, but work differently.

      • However, you are charged at the beginning of each period,

No thats how postpaid works. You pay the next month of service ahead and any 'extras' for the month just been.

        • +1

No thats how postpaid works. You pay the next month of service ahead

Incorrect. That's called a "prepaid plan". Some providers, for example Amaysim, gives you to option of prepay or postpay.
For pre-paid customers, you pay at the start of period, and if you run out of Data, you have to manually apply for Data topups.
For post-paid customers, you pay at the end of period, and if you run out of Data, Data topups are automatically applied.

and any 'extras' for the month just been.

Belong requires you to prepay for all "extras" as well. They do not bill anything at the end of the month.
          Everything is prepaid.

        • Yes, that's the same as Vaya, which is post paid.

    What is your issue exactly?

I could understand if you had accidentally signed up to a 24-month contract without realising it, getting misinformed by Belong being in the Prepaid section, as that could cost you hundreds of dollars that you didn't want to spend. But you can cancel any time so that issue can't exist.

Are you so desperate to save money that you want to be able to not renew on your last day and get a few "free" days until you need to make a phone call? That made sense back when you had to pay a minimum of $40+ to get unlimited phone calls, but at $10 that strategy could only save you $20-$30 a year at best, and be a huge amount of work and stress (if you need to make a time-sensitive phone call but you have to go through the hassle of adding credit first).

The above is the only reason I can think of that you might be upset about how Belong works - if it isn't that can you explain to us why, so we can sympathise with your outrage?

    • my issue how prepaid and postpaid are define…misleading Belong are postpaid but without contract.

if prepaid then why i need account number from belong port to Vodafone when plan expire…?

      • +1

Technically you could "turn off" auto renew by cancelling the PayPal authorisation —- they give you a long time before they cancel your service for not paying.

Is your outrage seriously only based on the fact you need an account number to port out? Why is that so bad?

ok, I finally understand what you are trying to say. I think you are confusing "Prepaid PAYG" with "Prepaid PLANS".
Traditional Prepaid works on the basis that you "top up" credit every month, which is what I think you are looking for.
Prepaid PLANS on the other hand are auto-renew.
Most providers offer BOTH traditional PAYG prepaid, as well as PLANS.

So, if you are on a "prepaid PLAN", and then you turn off auto-renew, it will change to "prepaid PAYG".

Belong only does PLANS, they do not have "prepaid PAYG". That's why you can't turn off auto renew.
        Hope this clears things up.

        • i'm with Belong right now, when i'm port to Kogan, in Kogan or any other provider signup for porting what i chose?Prepaid or Postpaid? prepaid that doesn't require account number or Postpaid that require belong account number?

          • +3

@apokalypsez: Post-paid. Because Belong classifies it as a post-paid plan. Why? Ask Belong, I have no idea why either.

            • @amkssg: I had an extra service with belong. I used a Telstra free sim and ported out to Telstra. That was a prepaid Telstra plan, no account number was needed and the transfer went fine. Belong let the service go.

Now maybe thats because Telstra owns both services.

Anyway you can get a $2 telstra sim free once its on Telstra prepaid port it to Voadfone etc

              • @RockyRaccoon: @apokalypsez I am 100% with your comments after porting a number from belong mobile to telstra on 26th December 2017 and was charged for 3 months after porting. And told by belong I had another number with them after 4 months after asking for them to repay money. Only way to talk to them was through technical problems and left messages. Had no problems until I ported to Telstra.

                • @accessozbargain: This is why you cancel PayPal authorisations when you're finished with them…

                • @accessozbargain: Yes stealing money out of no longer existant ported nunber to Telstra mobile and still paying belong as well for 3 months after porting and Belong trying to tell me I had another number with them is Bullshit.

I feel english isn't strong in this one, hence your issues.

    • -4

      Takes one to know one.

  • Just send a message through their support ticket and they will cancel your service for you.

  • +1

yeah we know. postpaid without a contract. account number can be found in the invoice

  • Good to know, thanks for the heads up!

  • +2

    Pre: previous to; before

Post: after in time or order.

So by definition, it is correct

  • when you're try to port out the service from Belong, it requires account number, hence post-paid service with monthly payment in advance.
In fact if you have to keep paying for monthly fee to keep your number, it is a post-paid service already. I will steer away from Belong if you think it is a prepaid service you used before.

    • +1

i tried to make that point it's post paid not true pre-paid how ozbargain are, now these companies misleading people or have redefine the definition of prepaid…

Belong are cheap and considering using it in few months once current belong…concern about port-out how it different to prepaid services that able to turn off renew keep the service active and port out.

  • I just now noticed Belong has been charging me $40 a month for 3 months although I didn't even use their service for one day, I started to port but then released its not pre-payed and went with something else.

They have kept charging me though!

This Has effectively cancelled out all the savings I have made service-hopping!

    • that's my concern and totally different ball game to ozbargain prep-paid port in and port out easily and peacefully with disable auto-renew.

  • This operates exactly like a prepaid plan. Not sure why its classified as postpaid. See here from the Belong CIS

You’re signing up for a SIM only month-to-month post-paid mobile service, for use in Australia.
There are no early termination charge

How much will I pay upfront for a new service?
There is no charge to order a SIM online. We will send it for free to an address in Australia. When you activate your service, you’ll need to pay the first month’s charge for your plan, plus the cost of the international call and text add-on if selected with the Small 1GB or Regular 10GB plan.

    When will I be billed?
Following your initial payment on sign-up, you’ll be billed for subsequent monthly charges in ADVANCE on the same day each month. We’ll notify you of your payment day after you sign-up, and you can see it at any time in our app or by signing in to your account on our website. Unlike the monthly charges, your preferred payment method will be charged immediately each time you buy a data top

What happens if I exceed my data allowance?
You can purchase additional data at any time, if your allowance is low or has run out, in units of 2GB for $10 each. We do not apply data top-ups automatically. If you have no data remaining, your service will be slowed to a maximum of 64kbps for the rest of that monthly payment cycle, but we won’t charge you any extra. Your data at the slower speed will be unlimited

Hence if you are on the $10 plan then thats all you ever pay unless you ELECT to purchase any options.

So its CORRECTLY classified as PRE-PAID becasue of the way it operates. I disagree 100% with the poster's incorrect claims and comments. OP should read the CIS in full to better understand how this plan operates.

In my opinion this is the BEST Pre-Paid and Post Paid Budget plan in Australia!

  • The simple reason Belong is postpaid is that they generate an invoice on the day of your auto renewal.

You can find your account number on the invoice.

Prepaid services do not have account numbers or issue invoices.
