Sensible price on the Sony, but it's worth paying more for Android TV.

each to their own but I prefer a dumb TV and plug the smarts in to it, much easier to upgrade a STB or chromecast than a TV…

      • Agreed, Nvidia or Apple TV depending on your preferred ecosystem is better by far imo.

The 55" x75f has been cheaper recently

  • Anyone here heard the Yamaha speaker and can comment on its sound quality? Not a lot of online reviews.

    • I purchased the WX-010 from addicted to Audio a few weeks ago. Sound isn't too bad at all. It is desktop speaker size but puts out and OK sound. Have it in room and can push sound via the WiFi to listen to radio stations and works well for that. Def not for replacement speaker system and not going you blow you out of the water.

Damn just had a look and the one I bought is still $215 on Amazon

    • If Ur after good sound for your buck. Best to get Logitech under $100

  • Damn just bought hisense series 7 55'…

  • All these TV deals have got me itching for an upgrade on my old 50" 1080p one.

The deal I liked the most was the Samsung NU8000 65" but I'm struggling to find anywhere even selling that one any more, let alone at the price of $1300 it was at earlier this year (I'm filled with regret for not buying it then.)

    Any suggestions for equivalents?

    • The new Samsungs will be coming out either now or very soon, so you should find some great bargains on “older” outgoing models.

I have a Samsung UHD 65” from 2014? 2015? Still an incredible image and no issues on it whatsoever. Voice controlled remote, too. My point? Unless you specifically need the Apple Airplay and Alexa connectivity that the new Samsungs are bringing in soon, personally I don’t think it’s worth paying so much for that premium.

  • Bought the Sony during the last Amazon sale and the quality is ok for the price, overall happy with it.

The cheaper Sony Android TVs are ok for the price but have these underpowered CPUs and are very slow in the menus.

I have a Android TV a model up (8300 series) and every action after I clicked on the remote was slow too. Took like 2 seconds to react..
Found an ozbargain comment with a link to a youtube guide about on how to get into developer mode and limiting multiple processes to 4 and it has never lagged again.

      • Any chance you could link me to that video?

  • Out of the blue cashback special please

  • Looks like the TV special is over - price is showing as $1095.

This one has IPS panel vs 65 inch x75F has VA panel. May matter to some. Great price though.

    • IPS - what?

  • How's the upscaling, anyone?

  • I ordered one of these X70Fs late last year, ended up being faulty. It would have episodes where the volume would go up and down and become unresponsive/black screen - had to be switched off at the power point. I had to go through a bit of rigmarole to get it returned and refunded. Was without a TV for at least a month while that was all sorted out.

Decided after that experience that for a big and heavy item like this it easier just to buy from good guys etc. considering they are pretty competitive anyway.

    • How does that compare to having to physically return it yourself? Specially if a large TV that you don't have a big enough car to transport and such? I'm always super paranoid lifting and moving any TVs I'd rather someone else have that responsibility personally.

But yeah a month to sort out is complete BS, I'd email Amazon Australia's boss about it make sure their team is aware.

      • I had to make like 6 phone calls to Amazon before the return was done. Was told the courier would contact me before coming to arrange a time, then a few days later get a call from my parents saying the driver is downstairs now for the TV (wasn't at there place yet as no time had been arranged).

Driver said he'd return tomorrow for the TV so had it all ready to go, didn't show up on that day, or for the next few days. More phone calls to Amazon trying to get the details of the courier company so I can arrange a time, was told they don't do returns like I was describing so I must be wrong.

The story goes on for a while longer, but eventually I managed. I disagree that a simple drive to the shop for an instant exchange is harder than the aforementioned process. :)

  • Got this one for $786 on boxing day.
    It's a pretty good TV.
    (especially at that price!)

But delivery was terrible… no communication… ran 4 days late (they used Toll)
