Toyota RAV4 (2019) Discussion Thread

Just wondering if anyone else is looking forward to the new 2019 - RAV4?

Looks to be a very solid release and easily the best iteration of the RAV4 to date - especially the hybrid options.

With the impending release / availability later this month? thought there may be others in the same boat or at the very least interested.

I am aware that there is not much information of the Australian variants (model names / badges, pricing etc.) as of yet - but I really do hope we get an equivalent of the XSE (North America).

I ordered my Cruiser Hybrid on June 7th and for 2 months I was told the order tracking portal said August build. I found out a month ago that my sales manager left the company and that my car doesn’t even have an estimated time frame yet. I was not even told he have left and I only found out because I kept trying to email the guy and finally got fed up and called and was told he had left. They now say that Toyota have acknowledged my order but there is not estimated build date. They keep saying they have absolutely not information for me. To be honest, I don’t know what to believe. I think my dealership are omitting details and are not being honest. I’m getting mixed information from different sales team members. I’m fed up that’s for sure. They’re also not replying to my questions about what’s going to happen with my trade in price.

      • Toyota have no idea when our cars will arrive.
I bought 30th May. My estimated build date is still showing 15th November, which means my car should arrive early January.
Have you joined the RAV4 Australia page on facebook?
The dealerships aren't to blame. They told me 2 month wait also. They aren't getting any information from Toyota Australia.
The Cruiser AWD Hybrids for sure have manufacturing problems. Either lack of batteries or some other fault. Toyota are keeping silent on the issue.
Toyota have ruined their reputation on this RAV4 saga. I no longer trust Toyota as a brand.
I wonder if I had a job with Toyota and I turned up to work 6 months late if I would still be employed there.

        • Toyota have ruined their reputation on this RAV4 saga. I no longer trust Toyota as a brand.

Carsguide car of the year and customers prepared to wait 6 months for it

No, they haven't ruined their reputation 😂

          • @spackbace: Ask the thousands of people who were promised a 2 month wait, and now they are told next year.

            • @[Deactivated]: There's still people buying it.

Oh and no customers of ours were promised a 2 month wait, so your situation is purely your situation.

I can't do anything about the fact that you had shitty communication, and don't treat me like I'm the same as your salesperson. I'm not and nor is my dealership.

        • +1

Yeah it seems like it is Toyota not communicating to the dealerships. I just hope that I get my car this year!

          • +2

@Kristen88: 100% correct. Toyota Australia is not communicating to the dealerships. From the comments from here and from facebook, Toyota dealers are not communicating with their customers either. It is highly unlikely we will get our cars this year. Nothing wrong with a 12 month wait time IF you are told that at time of purchase. From the comments here and on facebook, people who bought late MAY and June were told 2-3 months wait.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah. My sales person just emailed me saying no new information has been given. So I’ll have to wait until the end of October or November for an update.

  • What is the RAV 4 Cruiser privacy glass VLT percentage?

  • I have talked to a dealer in Sydney, which was interesting. According to the salesman, the wait time could be shorter if you are not asking for a big discount, it all depends on when he put the order in the system. And he obviously will process the higher sales price order first. Even more, he showed me a customer pay full price for an AWD Cruiser a week ago and the car was ready for pick up. Not sure whether that's true or not, and have no idea how that works. Sounds like he was playing a trick either to me or to the other customer.

    • +1

Crock of shit, and if Toyota got wind of that they wouldn't be happy

      • Interesting.. Doesn't sound too far fetched.

High priced orders going out first means better short-term profitability for the dealership and higher commission payments for the dealers?

I'd imagine that it would be possible to manipulate the order ranking up until a manufacture date is officially confirmed.

      • he is true, my dealer also asked me to put more money to get the car faster!!!

If you pay full price, i surely can get a hybrid next month.

    • This sounds correct..Cz some people order cars by just payin 500 bucks and cancel them lateron. Then the vehicle goes to dealer stock and they can sell it to anyone who pays higher prices to them

      • But that's not the same situation

An interesting vid from a mechanic discussing the more complex tech in Toyota hybrid vehicles (if not other makes), including $5k-6k to replace a broken generator:
https://youtu.be/JZ6EKLub0gc <— he did get the bit wrong about Camry Hybrids not having an Atkinson cycle engine :)

Some owner feedback re: repair costs on broken inverters etc.:
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2738256

More info on the Toyota HSD:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_Synergy_Drive

More food for thought I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯ <— can't get my right arm to appear lol

    • Hybrid tech is the most complex out of the three: ICE, hybrid, EV.

EV will be down in price very soon as more and more companies are coming on board. VW will release the next EV SUV starting with $4xk.

Having said that if you are in the market for an efficient suv right now, you can't beat hybrid rav. But if you have to wait for 1 year then may as well wait for 2 more and get a pure EV.

  • Anyone can share the purchased price on GX or GXL petrol FWD? Thanks

  • Received a update from my dealer that all Hybrid orders (ordered on June) moved into Dec build except my order as it stays at Nov build (very interesting). Hope it stays as Nov production :)

    • May I ask what state your dealership is in?

      • +1

        QLD

  • in my opinion, toyota should not launch the new Rav 4 in May if the wait time is more than six months, the longer than normal wait together with the salesperson 2-3 months promise surely damages toyota's reputation on the customer service side.

I was a toyota fan and supporter but after this long wait, i am going to cancel my contract and go with Mazda or Subaru.

To be honestly, toyota not just lose one buyer, they will lose all buyers in my family.

    • my sales also told me the 19 build rav 4 will not come with andriod auto but it will be updated next year?

Should i still trust the sales?

Even the delivery date is in black and white in contract, they could not keep it going.

What if the andriod auto update is a hardware issue not software issue alone, will toyota still fix the problem? I doubt.

      • October build gets it, your salesperson has no clue.

First round of orders got theirs either straight away or within 4 months or so. You ordered later for a popular car, so of course you wait.

If you go the Mazda or Subaru then you may as well have ordered the 2.0L RAV4 and you would've had it by now

  • @Spackbace when will the RAV4 get apple CarPlay?

    • October builds

      • for the cars before October, when will it be available?

        • I believe November/December

    • Jees that's about cost price for a car that's over 6 months away

    • What dealer if you don't mind me asking?

      • -1

Sorry can't divulge this info. I am located in Brisbane.

        • What an absolute crock of bullshit. Why cant you "divulge this info"?? You are either full of crap or you got it as a "family member of a salesperson" discount, hence you got a good discount and you were put waaaay down the list for delivery date.

          Unless I see a copy of that contract, I don't believe you…

          • +2

@pegaxs: Wowwww, chill out man! Who the hell are you? Why would I show you my contract or anything? I don't owe you anything!
I've spent a few good days driving around the city negotiating with different dealers, and I've spent a full day on the phone until I got this price. So instead of attacking people online better put your braint to work (if you have it of course, but I doubt that), jump on the phone and start calling and negotiating!

And btw, I haven't seen anyone here posting the name of the dealer they have purchased the car from, why would I post it?

            • +1

@phoenix1989: It's just a common theme on internet forums that when someone makes up a story about something that didn't happen, it's usually finished off with "but I cant tell/show/prove to you *insert random anecdote*"

              why would I post it?

Because it's the nature of a "bargain hunting website". The only reason you would hide what dealer it is if you were full of it. If a dealer gave me a great price on a car that almost no one is getting a discount on, I would be singing their praises. Hell, I would post it as a deal.

Or, you know, if I was bullshitting, I would add a disclaimer like "but it's a secret/cant say/rather not disclose…"

Why would I show you my contract or anything? I don't owe you anything!

Because you cant and this is just another excuse. And while ever you cant produce any evidence to back up your top tier negotiating skills, I will continue to call it out for the rubbish that it is. So no, you don't "owe" me anything. I'm quite content with thinking that your story of your purchase price is a whole heap of bunkum until proven otherwise.

"braint" (if you have it of course, but I doubt that)

Oh, come on, no need to make personal attacks. (And no, I don't have a "braint")

              • +1

@pegaxs: I am so sick of smart assess like you! Give me your email address and I will send you a copy of the quote they gave me. And after you will satisfy your curiosity, you can return to this forum and publicly apologize for wasting my time on you.

                • -3

@phoenix1989: So, now it’s just a quote and not a contract?

So much for “I owe you nothing.”

And sure, scan it, upload it and you can private message me the link. I would be happy to view it and confirm your story if it’s a contract. A quote, not so much…

                  • +2

@pegaxs: A contract is an agreement between myself and the dealership, it includes all privet and confidential information. And you have No Freaking Right to even ask me to send it to you! Got it?!
And if an official quote from the dilership is not enough for you to see what price the dealer has offered me, you must be really stupid. I am just not going to waste anymore time on you, not worth it. And good luck with your purchase… or not.

    • I paid $45,000 for the same thing, minus the tow bar. It was the price of getting one of the last of the early stock and took delivery mid-June.

I knew I was paying a premium, but I needed it quickly. It's counter to the ozbargain ethos to say this, but I was happy to pay extra to secure it when I needed it. Back then people were also being told the wait was 3 months, not the 6+ months that is being touted now.

Fuel Economy is averaging 5.5L/100km mostly around congested Sydney streets.

      • Yes, you are right, I am paying less but looks like it is going to be a very long wait for me.

  • Any one knows when can I cancel the contract with full refund and without having legal liabilities. Thinking of cancelling my Rav4 order, ETA in contract 1-Sept-2019, ordered 30-June. Dealer said unconfirmed production Dec, arrival Jan/Feb 2020 but can be longer. Just needed a second car by Feb 2020 and if doesn’t get delivered by then, I have to find other option

    • +1

Read the conditions on the back, but most generally say that it has to be delivered by the date on the contract. If it says that, you can bail without penalty (and I doubt the dealer will care as they'll just onsell your order).

Worthwhile maybe waiting till January tho? You'd hate to make the decision now and wonder if you could've been driving the RAV. Production is ramping up in January of Cruiser

      • I'll review the contract. I would really like to have this Rav4 as it tick all of the boxes for me. I would wait until mid January if I have to cancelled. Thanks for the info Spack

  • Hey @spaceback, just wondering what's the waiting time like on the GX Hybrid atm?

    • Honestly we don't know. Predicting 6 months but it's like throwing a dart at a dartboard lol

      • Cheers, so is it about the same wait times for all the Hybrid models?

        • +1

Currently yes it's best to predict that. Cruiser is ramping up production in Jan-Mar, so by now I think ETA's will be similar

  • Hi Spackbase, do you know approx how long it takes a car to get from Jap docks to a NSW dealer?

Dealer said its at jap docks now and it takes 4 weeks from that point to have it ready for delivery.

    • your Toyota tracker should tell you the approx delivery date?

    • Yeah that's about right

  • Hi Spackbase ..When are they likely to start 2020 RAV 4 model production. thanks

    • +1

      1 January, 2020. :)

    • +1

      As above lol

    • reason I asked ; Normally the 10th number of the VIN number should show you the model year but mine says "0"

  • @Spackbase

Is there any news or update regarding the Apple Car Play and Android Auto update installs?

    • Nothing concrete. In October produced vehicles, predicted to be around November afaik for the older ones

  • Where do I find toyota tracker???

Ask your dealer for usercode and password

      • My dealer said that the user code is not available for customers….

        • +1

Rubbish. Although I do hear that the portal might not be applicable to customers in all states.
I asked my (Sydney) dealer and got the username and password straight away, although I did have to ask.

          BUT: The website is shite.
It's called the Order Tracking System.
It had one job, and it has failed spectacularly.

I've now spent three months looking at a blank field for the "Planned production month" field , which is stuck on "Still to be confirmed"

It's a good car. Wonderful. Demand has been unexpectedly high? Good for you. But you'd think a customer making a $43000 purchase would be entitled to an accurate month of production after waiting three months. Toyota have royally f'ed this up from a PR perspective. I don't care about the delay. I do care about being given no information about the delay.

  • Hello everyone.. anyone cracked good deal for cruiser hybrid 2wd with metalic paint..? I got a deal for $43700 from victorian dealer and about to place an order.

    • You'll struggle to get 'great' prices given the wait time for them

Though you just got $4k off, not sure how much more you were expecting lol

  • I am getting $32.5k DA for new GX petrol white (non-hybrid). Seeking advice if I should close the deal or has someone been able to negotiate a better price?

  • Hey guys,

For the Cruiser in QLD, some dealers are quoting wait times of 6-8 months, others 8-10 months, others 12-18 months, etc.

Does it actually matter which dealer you get it from? Eg. is more stock allocated to one dealer over another?

Or do all dealers just line up when orders are put in for stock?

    • +1

First in first out. We're saying 6-8 months, but everyone should have the same wait time, just depends on how conservative they're being.

      • Spackbace, are there any Toyota Hybrids (not just the Rav4) available at all without having to order and wait months?????

        • +1

Might be possible to find a hybrid Camry

  • We placed a deposit and signed a contract, but 2 days later decided it was not fair for Toyota to hold our money for approx 12 months (time dealer said it would take to get the Rav4 Hybrid 2wd), not knowing for sure how much they would give for the trade for that same reason and not having an actual receive date for the Rav so we canceled the contract and got our money refunded.

Spackbace, my question is, can all of the following be true? The dealer said they could not order Rav4 hybrids from Toyota unless they had a signed contract from the customer, then he told me he placed the order for us as he had a contract, then after we canceled he said it would stay on order and the dealer would sell it to 1st come once it arrives, is that all truths? Also would I be expecting too much for the salesman to contact me when the Rav4 I ordered arrives so we can be 1st come for the car and do a new contract? Also will the price of the car increase because I ended the contract? They did say they could not take any money off the price of this years model because of the Rav3 hybrids popularity?

    Thanks

    • +1

The dealer said they could not order Rav4 hybrids from Toyota unless they had a signed contract from the customer, then he told me he placed the order for us as he had a contract, then after we canceled he said it would stay on order and the dealer would sell it to 1st come once it arrives, is that all truths?

Yep true, it's the only way to order a car for yard stock

Also would I be expecting too much for the salesman to contact me when the Rav4 I ordered arrives so we can be 1st come for the car and do a new contract?

When it arrives? You're assuming that at no time in that production period, it gets a deposit against it. Someone else would be happy to jump the queue and go for their 2nd colour choice I'm sure.

Also will the price of the car increase because I ended the contract?

Depends if you negotiated or not, and what the dealer wants to sell for. If you bought for RRP, then I doubt it'll go up

  • Hey guys,

If I placed an order for one this week - when can I start tracking it? Is it when it's actually scheduled to be produced that you can track it or can you track it right from the beginner when it's in line with the other thousand orders lol?

    • Would be very interested to hear the answer to this also!

    • Just received the login details from the dealer. You should try contacting them.

      • Thanks JV, when did you place an order for your car? Cheers!

    • Both dealer and Toyota customer told me you can not get the code, unless the production date is confirmed. I am not sure whether this is true because JVs Apprentice above received the login details.

      • I have the code. No production date. Order place earlier this month.

        https://imgur.com/a/YufgMR3

        • Thanks, I only placed mine last week. How many weeks should I wait before asking again? Haha

        • then, again, another miscommunication, both dealer and toyota customer service from head office provided me incorrect information, i was clearly told by both parties that the code is not available until a production date is confirmed.

        • I remarked earlier that having access to the Customer Order Tracking Portal and it doing it's job are not the same thing. I've had access from the first week after I placed the order. The status for "build month" has been blank for 14 weeks now. The system the dealer uses to track ETA has not been updated for three months to reflect delays, and my promised delivery date is tomorrow. Turns out my car a) hasn't been built, and b) no one knows when it will. Awful customer service.

  • Just closed a deal on GXL 2.0L petrol graphite for $37k. Is this reasonable?

    • yes, it is a good deal for Rav4 GXL, unless you want a 4wd 2.5L subaru forest for the same price.

    • lowest price I know for GXL 2.0L is $35,800, but is a plain white and that is a month ago.

Any tint, floor mat, cargo mat and full tank of petrol with your price?

For 37K, you can also get a hybrid GX 2WD (Sat Version), but is a long wait.

      • Yes including tinting. Floor mats. Full fuel.
Yeah hybrid was too long of a wait. Do you know how long the wait is?

        • that is good price including these accessories, hybrid is about 6 months if you order now.

  • Hey everyone,

I ordered a RAV 4 Hybrid Cruiser 2WD on June 8th and have been waiting ever since. I just got told today that my car now is expected to be built in DEC 2020. I have already been waiting since June which is nearly 5 months and now they’re saying I have to wait another 14 months. Has anyone else been told this and have purchased around the same time?

    • Very interesting. I've ordered Cruiser Hybrid 2WD on 3rd June. My order is on the planned production on Nov'19 expected delivery by Dec'19.

      • May I ask… did you order in Sydney?

        • Brisbane

    • I'm sure they got that wrong and it's December 2019 lol it's just a typo

I just had some July orders go into the November production run so sorry to hear yours hasn't been built yet but it'll be December 2019

      • It was actually over the phone and I said sorry I think you mean 2019 and he corrected me and said No, December 2020 and did it’s because of the no emissions scheme and they are not sending enough cars and that it’s unlucky that mine has been delayed…. I don’t believe it…. I’m in shock.

        • Yeah no that's not right. As I said, I've got a few July orders in the November production run.

Go above his head and talk to the new car manager.

Just out of curiosity is yours discounted much?

          • @spackbace: So no one at your dealership is delayed like that? They’re saying my order hasn’t even been recognised. I don’t know if they have stuffed up my order… is this possible? I can’t trust them.

            • @Kristen88: Nope, first orders in first out

              Talk to his boss

              • @spackbace: Is it going to change anything by talking to the boss? I’m going to pull my order I think. Other dealerships are saying 4-6 months. If I got a discount will they push other more expensive orders ahead of me as it feels like that’s happening…

                • @Kristen88: Just talk to his boss and find out what's going on. What you've been told is not normal

                  • @spackbace: Okay thanks for your advice.

                  • +1

@spackbace: I Called Toyota Australia and they said they will call the sales Manager to get more information and he said it’s definitely not right and that I should only be expecting a 6 month wait which makes it December 2019 make. Hopefully it is true!

          • @spackbace: I’m trading in my car for $4000 with the sale which isn’t a huge amount??

    • +1

Received a call from my dealer. The build has confirmed on Nov and expected to deliver by early Dec !!!

      FYI: Ordered on 3rd June.

      • Congrats! I’m very jealous! I have no idea if I’ll even get mine.
