    Not sure though according to ESET's FAQ it looks like you could use it straight away and just extend your subscription.

  Back when I bothered with this kind of software, I easily considered this the best of the well rated security suites. Definitely better than Kaspersky, which at the time was probably the highest rated.

  Though I haven't used any products for probably 10 years now, so things might have changed? Anyone still vouch for ESET?

      Would you consider it intrusive? If you open something that it thinks is malware, can you easily tell it to ignore?
      Can you disable everything temporarily easily from the system icon?

        Not generally intrusive though I think it depends what mode you set it up in (I'm using an interactive learning option) but yes you can just right click the tray icon and disable easily.
