    got one Thanks!

  • Been cheaper :) and at this price is more then the old 1500 boxes use to cost $-peice wise.

That said its a decent enough deal

    • Link of a better deal?

For an extra $5, 110 more pieces and if you don't have Amazon Prime, then something like the 10704 set from K-mart equivalates.

The plastic box is good quality and nice to have.

          • +2

@Merlict: Also this set has a few base plates.

Looking at brick owl the individual parts in the $43 set are actually worth more than the 10704 set - even after accounting for the fact the $49 set has more parts.

So it's good value IMO. Which is why I bought one! Yay! Has been an expensive Lego day today.

I should have mentioned this box has different pieces like opening doors and windows, a base plat etc.

But your linked one is also good for building. Thanks.

What's the best price ever for this set? Camels say this is best price by about ten percent.

      • I bought one for my nephew for $37 at one point with a discount plus a code…

But hey maybe i got lucky?

Cheers OP, got one. Cashback brings it down to bang on $40.

  • Great deal. Bought it for $50 over Easter weekend.

  • Is it suitable for an 8 year old? She’s already playing the standard smaller legos.

    • Given this is Lego am inclined to say yes

      • Ok thanks :)

    • +3

      Says 4-99 on the box.

My 100 year old Grandpa played with this and now he's dead. Be careful!

    • +1

My 3 & 5 year old play no problem.

    • +3

No. They are too old. I recommend buying GTA V instead.

Side note: this was a joke.

      • Somewhat true, amazing what parents or kid's friend's parents expose these days…

        • I was probably around 8 when I played the first GTA on PS1. Ahh memories, back when GTA was a top-down prospective.

Has anyone else found themselves obsessively looking at LEGO since Lego Masters aired!?

    Thanks, bought 1!

  • My wife just bought the 10717 (https://www.lego.com/en-au/themes/classic/products/bricks-br…) set for my daughter the other day for her 6th birthday. Any thoughts as to whether 2 of the 10698 would be a better buy?

It looks like the number of pieces you end up with is much the same (10717 = 1,500 vs 10698 x 2 = 1,580), and price ends up being much the same (paid $89 for 10717). Not too fussed about the containers, so that isn't a major factor.

    • You may still be able to find the Creative Box 10697 at Kmart on the shelf as it's not listed on their website. This is it here on Amazon I think it's about $79 so is also pretty good value.

Just bought one to hide til Christmas for my 4yo. Thanks OP :)

  • I just bought one. Interesting. It shows up as $42.61 at check out??? The main page is still showing $43+. No complain as it is cheaper.

    • Item shipped!!! Hopefully i can wait until the kid's birthday to take it out. ;) My credit card was billed $42.61 so certainly cheaper than $43.37. Great bargain.

Genuine question, I bought generic brand bricks from Kmart the other day (see link below). it seems to do the job no differently to Lego bricks and attaches firmly to the Lego branded base plates. What am I missing that ozbargainers think we should still be using Lego bricks?

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/1000-piece-blocks-construct…

    • +2

Inconsistent quality between all the imitation brands. Also, while bricks are fine sticking to other bricks, it’s the friction and clutch power of clips, hinges and the like tend to be worse off, especially after heavy play.

    • Have you tried building a larger moc with them?

They hold no-where near as well.

For kids or just for fun though yes these are just fine. However for people building a parts collection for mocs (my own creation) genuine lego is a must. Some mocs even use the larger lego duplo bricks to hold up heavy structures.

      • Thanks this was very useful information. I'm not a master builder I only but it for my 5yo to play with who can't tell the difference between Lego and generic.

    Got 1. Thanks OP

  • Does this come with the tool that can remove two bricks easily? I went to lego world and noticed they have this kind of tool used in one of the kids workshop

    • according to the image on amazon yes it does

      • D'oh! totally did not look at the pic :)

        Thanks for the post!

  • How to buy one of these and convince my wife it’s for our unborn baby…?

    • Don’t open it until baby turns 4

  • link is showing as $69 now
