Yeah you might well be right. I did however have it offered with free delivery to me for $1800 at JB yesterday. Making me think sub $1800 is pretty likely if you call around!

Generally yeah. Main reason to get the 55" would be budget (most likely) or viewing distances if you were in a really small apartment.
I doubt HN would pricebeat an eBay coupon.
