Looking for Sporty Sedan under $30k

In the market for a sporty sedan under $33k (new or used). Don't want an over the top sporty car, I need it for everyday driving. Any advice on what cars to get?

What would be nice (but not necessary):

  • Decent leg and headroom in back (for 6ft person)
  • Android auto or Satellite navigation
  • Decent fuel consumption
  • Decent boot space

      Oh… the “Sportivo” Camry… nice.

      • Sportivo name was dropped a long time ago, in the Camry's case.

      • I informed my wife if I'm ever tempted to buy a Sportivo Camry, to have me put down.

        So much nope.

      • What year do you reckon?

        • 2008… That was the last of the Sportivo model line if memory serves me correctly. Or if you want a little more punch, an Aurion ZR6 Sportivo has the V6 engine in it. From memory, these went up until 2014?

@pegaxs: Let me FTFY. Camry used Sportivo badge up until end of 40 series (mid-late 2011). Aurion continued to use badge up until end of 50 series (2017).

@PinzVidz: Seems my memory did not serve me correctly… but that happens at my age. :D

don't forget the big bad brother

      TRD Aurion 325hp/400Nm from supercharged 3.5L V6

Change the badge to Lotus Evora and you're good to go.

WRX or an older turbo or H6 Liberty.

    +1 WRX/liberty
    also consider an evo

hot hatches tend to lack room in the back so probably skip all of them.

I'm really not into the big sedans but maybe one of the SS commodores or XR6 turbos if youre just into the straight line power

They already have by choosing a sedan.

    Holden Commodore RS-V.

    C63 AMG or nothing.

      Amen

AMG A200 (with all the bells and whistles)
    Commodore VF SSV
    Falcon FG XR8/GT-E/XR6 Turbo
    Lexus IS250/GS350
    Chrysler 300 SRT-8
    Audi S4
(NB: none of these will be new cars in this price bracket)

    Cheaper, newer cars:
    Kia Cerato GT/Hyundai Elantra Sport.
    Honda Civic RS

They all have decent leg room and decent boot space. They are garbage on fuel, but it’s inversely proportionate to the amount of fun they are to drive. Android auto is nice, but I would sooner have a great car that is great to drive that doesn’t have Android auto than a car that has it and is a bland shitbox.

Skip IS250 (IS350 is the one to get if you have to) because they lack decent leg room both front and rear.
Might I suggest the gs450h, more likely to get last gen with the price but they have a very nice drive and heaps of power while still fairly economical in terms of fuel.

Other than that the infiniti q50 hybrid is another nice contender.

Es350 is a good bargain, not too sporty but it packs a lot of tech and it is extremely comfortable, $30k gets you sports luxury of 2014-15 which is an insane value proposition.

      • I was going to put the Q50 on the list as well, but it was getting to a point where I felt I was just naming everything.

And that was a typo, was supposed to say IS350/GS350. The IS250 is getting a bit old.

  • I own a Clio RS and is heaps of fun. 200hp, enough leg room and massive boot space. You should be able to pick up a new one for that price, or get a used one a save some bucks

      nice sedan you got there

Elantra SR. Recently facelifted/renamed as Elantra Sport and looks fugly in facelift form. Should be still a few new SRs floating about in dealerships.

    ford mondeo xr5

  • +2 wrx fun to drive

  • See if you can source late model of Lancer Aspire. That is a one good car!

Looks are subjective as is the definition of "sporty" but a used Mk3 Octavia vRS would tick most of those boxes (maybe not the rear room for 6' person).

    165+kw
    8L/100km
    590L boot space

  • Aurion

  • +1 for the Kia Cerato GT

  • How about an infinity Q50?

probbaly wont get into a 3.0 Turbo for under $40k but the 3.5L v6 should be pretty damn good for ~$30k

  • Old Mercedes AMG model. Volvo S60 Polestar or T6 R-Design. Lexus IS350.
