  • How do these compare to the Sonos One? Thanks

    • +5

Reviewers say two sonos one speakers sound better than one sonos 5. Personally I have two sonos five speakers and they sound very good.

      • thats just a left and right set up, you cant compare that to this

        • +1

But two sonos one speakers are similarly priced to one sonos 5

          • @tyvod: Two play:5 would sounds a lot better ;)

            • @asa79: Yes, but my room is tiny so I think two sonos one would have sufficed :(

              • @tyvod: two play:5 supposedly make good rear speakers for the playbar and sub

              • @tyvod: Yes room size & volume speakers will be played at should be considered.

      • I’ve got two Sonos Ones so great answer. Thanks

    • Its 5 speakers compared to 1 speaker

    • +1

I have the play:3 and its heaps better then the play one for sounds quality, the play:5 would be even better

Sonos Play:5 (specs from Sonos Website)
      Audio
Six Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to match the six dedicated speaker drivers and the acoustic architecture.
Three tweeters create the crispest and clearest high-frequency response.
Three mid-woofers ensure you’ll hear the faithful playback of mid-range vocal frequencies plus deep, rich bass—without distortion, even at high volumes.
Phased speaker array (three drivers on top and three on the bottom) creates a wide stereo soundstage that directs the sound left, right, and centre.
      Audio line-in. An auto-detecting 3.5 mm connection.
Adjustable bass and treble controls let you customise your sound by individual room or groups of rooms.

Sonos One (specs from Sonos Website)
      Audio
Two Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to match the speaker drivers and acoustic architecture.
One tweeter creates a crisp and clear high-frequency response.
One mid-woofer ensures you’ll hear the faithful playback of mid-range vocal frequencies plus deep, rich bass.
Adjustable bass and treble controls let you customise your sound by individual room or groups of rooms.
Far-field microphone array, used for smart voice capture and noise cancellation.

      • I watched the Sonos video on YouTube where they talk about designing either the Play:3 or Play:5.
They were designed so that they could lie horIzontal (as a single) or vertical (as a stereo pair).
A thought did go through my mind how a pair Play:5 would compare to other traditional speaker setup in similar price range (compromise between sound vs simplicity / ease of use / setup).
As I am a user of wireless audio.
The all in one aspect did sound appealing.

        • I use my play 3 sitting normally on kitchen bench and it fills up 2 rooms (kitchen and dining room pretty good

          • @asa79: Yeah I should have explained I was looking for an upgrade from the Yamaha YAS-106 soundbar + AirPlay (Apple TV) in-a-shelf in the bedroom.
At the time I was considering 2x Sonos 1’s, 2x homepods, or traditional bookshelf speakers as an upgrade. Ended up getting the bookshelfs (with Apple TV 3 connected for wireless audio) without even listening to the wireless options.
(researching & comparing bookshelfs took enough time, and garnered my interest in them)

Then I came across the Sonos design video, and saw how they put a lot of work into how they sound. So I have a better impression of them now (without listening yet).

  • My only regret is that I didn't buy a pair from that $500 each Catch of the Day deal last year. I bought a single unit as I wasn't familiar with Sonos at the time, and it was OzBargained within a few hours of posting the deal.

  • Is the coupon code: MOTHERSDAY19 good for any other products?

    • I use Sonos on 5.1 playbar, woofer and 2 Sonos ones .. you will not for wrong

      • **You will not go wrong

  • Yea me too, looking for sound bar, sub and speakers. Op can you pls do us a deal on the 3?

    • +1

Got a bit excited when I thought this was the Sonos Beam for a minute

  • have one play:5 2nd gen. wonder if i do need another one, or a sub, or … something else? any comments? I live in an apartment.

    • No need for sub in apartment imo. Stereo of these sounds good although I'm not sure what gen this is.

      • Will a beam + 2X play1 better than the playbar on its own? Live in apartment as well
Or a beam itself is good enough for apartment?

        • It depends on size of room

      • Everyone needs a sub

      Your neighbours will hate you.

  • Currently have Logitech Z550 satellites with a Pioneer 521 that I think has semi-died. Would two of these be a good replacement? Want to have google home and will play spotify, TV, Switch

Sonos ONE 2nd gen comes to $237.60 with the couponcode

  • is it possible to do 5.1 with beam - sub - 2* Play:5 (gen2)?

    • Yes, but it's going to be overkill, because the Play:5 will be used as surround speakers. Play:1 or ONE is better for the surrounds

      • Maybe 2x Play:3’s is a good in-between.

    • Yes alot of people do that but with playbar and sub and play 5 for rears

It really all depends on how good a surround you want

  • Worth pointing out that the Play:5 is Sonos's top speaker. Its a large bookshelf class speaker. Sounds fantastic and goes loud.

Two Play:5's in stereo is a very nice setup. Especially at this price.

Woke up this morning ready to buy the beam. Price with promotion went up from Beam $484.20 to $502.20… pretty disappointing.

    • +1

Even the play 5 has gone up to $669 was $629.

      • +1

Let's see if they correct it then. They post a lot on ozbargain and i wouldn't have thought they would be price jacking during promotion periods.

      • +1

        yeah… it's price jacking. SAD….

  • wow lucky i ordered last night!
email this morning, one gen 2 (white) is out of stock and they will back order for end of the week.
