    Can't wait for the remaster!

    • +4

Fingers crossed they don't ruin it.

    • +1

      Really?
      Show me where

      • +4

        yes boss, on google

    • It'll probably be a mobile release.

  • +8

Word of caution. You WILL have problems running most of these pre-C&C3 in Windows 10 without some serious compatibility settings.

    • +4

I take it you mean more than just "Right-Click -> Properties -> Compatibility -> 'Tick' Run in compatibility mode for Windows XP?"

      • +1

I've found that was enough for RA2.

        • Was not enough for me!

          • +1

@johnno07: Better off finding an old lappy with XP/Vista/7, I found that I got better performance doing that anyway. 10 really didn't pick up what RA2 was putting down.

      • +8

        Sounds serious.

      • +2

Apparently enough for RA2, but not going to work for RA1. You can get something called RA1Installer to download and install the game with the unofficial patch. Seeing as you're purchasing the game anyway, I wouldn't see an ethical problem with doing this

        • -1

          Brave going back that far.

          • @pdtmathieson: Brings back fond memories. Tried installing a few days ago using the ISOs EA released for it back when C&C4 was coming out and compatibility mode doesn't work. I'd assume the same would go for Tiberian Dawn too

        • Or just use DOSBox to run the DOS version. Works on windows/OSX/Linux/android…

    • +3

https://www.openra.net/ - This use to be the "best" way of playing the early C&C. Plus MP works!

  • You have been warned…. This is YURI.

    • Tin foil hat building… construction complete

      • Give me something to break…. Goodie.

  • So many hours playing the original many moons ago..

Which is the pick of the sequels?

    • +1

      Play Red Alert twice.

      • +1

That intro video to Red Alert….memories :)

        • Yuri's Revenge was the best. wished my old copy would work on my win10 pc.

    • I got RA when I was about 8 and RA2 when I was about 12, so RA2 is the one that sits with me most. Such a hectic game because everything moves so quickly and there is so much firepower (prisms/kirovs) that you can feel like you are going well and then it all comes crashing down.

My brother and I still use the catch phrases from when you select units in normal conversation with each other like it's nothing.

  • +2

    Act on Instinct

The ost begins with "we are going to have to act, if we want to live in a different world"

C&C was the rts to play once upon a time

    • +3

I remember when Dune was the rts to play.

      • Dune the building of the dynasty….

        Sandworms

      • +1

Dune? You mean Dune 2 :D

  • Talk about tight arse Tuesday's! Great find.

  • +7

You can play some of these games for free https://cncnet.org/download

    • Command and Conquer
    • Red Alert 1 & 2
    • +5

To clarify, the following are available for free, with Windows, Mac and Linux support and online play:

      • Command and Conquer
      • Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun
      • Command and Conquer: Red Alert

Additionally, the following are available to play online provided you own the game (either physical discs or from EA's origin store):

      • Dune 2000
      • Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 / Yuri's Revenge
      • Command and Conquer: Renegade

Finally, a remake of Command and Conquer: Renegade in a modern engine is available for free here:

      https://renegade-x.com

      • Hadn't really thought about Renegade for a while, might give that a look… The first online FPS that I ever got into, because nothing else used to run well on my PC.

  • Wow last from the past

My favourite was red alert and Tiberian sun

Will these run well on win7 pc?

    • I think they will run, maybe not well. If you can dig up an XP laptop, you will probably get the best results.

  • +4

My favourites were always Generals: Zero Hour & Red Alert the Aftermath!

I have run Zero Hour on my windows 10 pc with no issues so far. Not too sure about the others though.

    • I have also had no issues with Generals.

    • Try Destructions mod if you get it working

  • +7

    China will grow larger.

    • New construction.

    • Great wall building… construction complete

      • Our base is under attack.

        • I need new shoes.

    • already has….EA know China taking over the world….

  • Anyone know if the soundtracks are included with the games? They some of the best of the genre.

  • +4

    Can i have some shoes?

  • So anyone know how to get Red ALert 2 to run? it keeps asking for CD key…

    • within the origin game client, click on the 'game library', then the title you want to play (RA2).
Under the orange download button is a small gear icon. Click the gear and select 'Game Properties' this will reveal a unique 'CD key' for each title (also, an epilepsy warning).
Copy the 'CD Key' into the game.

"let's make an oasis of death"

      • Oh no my mistake, I meant "please Insert Red Alert 2 Cd in CD-Rom"

        • All good..
It that case, I have no idea :P but, if you figure it out, could you please post it here? I will no doubt run into the same problem in a few weeks when I sit down to play though through the entire collection.

  • +2

    China will grow larger !

  • Do these all run on Mac OSX?

    • The earliest ones (C&C, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun) can run on macOS here: https://cncnet.org/download

It looks like Renegade should work through WINE

Generals / Zero Hour will work through WINE but the install is more complicated.

C&C 3 and RA3 can be made to work through wine, but it's even more complicated than Generals.

Not possible currently for Red Alert 2 or C&C 4.

And don't buy these to use on Mac if you've never used WINE before, I don't want to be responsible for people wasting money on something they can't get to work.

  • Heads up, price has changed to AU$ 7.49. The required more Tiberiums. Still a decent price though.
