Hyundai Tucson Price Guide - New Car Negotiation

I'm considering buying a new 2019 Hyundai Tucson Auto ActiveX with the safety pack.
I'd also like a tow bar, tinting and the comfort pack(mats, boot liner etc.)
The current advertised price is $35,099(Excluding the extras I mentioned) there's also $1000 back as part of their EOFY promotion. This is my first time buying from a car dealer, previously only bought second hand privately.
I'd appreciate any guidance in terms of prices others have managed to get and tips on negotiation, what should a starting offer be etc.
I've been for a test drive but not discussed any pricing other than the salesman giving me the price off the Hyundai website.

I did this exact thing with the exact same car last year (obviously different model).
We just went in with a price we wanted to pay.
    Be prepared to walk away.
Car dealers are hilarious. You can almost guess what they're going to say. Remember that you're not there to make friends. Be polite, but don't go for the "I have to feed my family" type lines they'll give you.
Eventually someone came near our price and we got the panoramic roof put in too. I went to my most local dealer and said "I'll sign up today if you can beat this".
He said "No. Go with the other guy then" haha.
EOFY is a good time to buy, especially if they're releasing a new model.

edit- some people love this guy, some hate him.
    I found his videos useful

Someone have to buy new so that the rest of us may buy pre-owned.

Don't get window tinting or paint protection.

  • Go to 4 or 5 dealerships - you will find a dealer in another suburb as you would be more keen to give you a better price than your local dealer
Find a time where the sale and delivery is close to the month - dealers might give you an amazing price just to meet their monthly target
Have a price point in your head and be prepared to walk away - they might laugh at your offer but you might be the one laughing at the end
If buying cash down, initially let the sales person know you need finance. They might lower the price of the car thinking they will make money on finance, but just as they shake hand let them know - you know what I will pay all cash down
If financing - sales person while negotiating will say, 2000 would probably mean only another $10 a week of repayment. Remember it is still going from your pocket and stick to your price
If flexible, try and chose a color which does not readily sells. Dealer might give you a better price to get a sale for that color.

EOFY promos sales would just be kicking in…be patient and if you can wait you will get a good deal around mid June. Around the 20th is when the dealers start to panic to meet numbers..

    Good luck!

Many dealers have overseas owners and follow other financial years, like Japan for example.

There will be no better deal done in June as there would be now. Look at the market as a whole, it's not great though it's improving.

There's an old saying: "a deal done today is better than a promise for tomorrow". Ie they will do everything they can to get a deal today at whatever offer rather than let you walk.

If they let you walk out after putting in a signed offer, it means your offer couldn't be done. No one does the whole 'call the next day and agree to the offer' thing, it doesn't happen.

And whatever you do, don't play games. We've seen it all before. If you tell us the guy down the road quoted some silly price, we'll send you back to that guy. The sheepish look on your face is hilarious when you then ask "but what can you do?"

  • I am looking to buy a Kona "Elite" and will be looking for a minimum of 10% off their RRP. Don't know if Hyundai have fleet pricing, but typically such pricing can be up to 20% off retail so my target should be done.

  • Also look to see if the Carlton membership deal is still on. We got $1000 cash back afterwards. Which isn’t an amount considered during negotiation etc it’s separate to interaction with dealership
Look into the extras you want buying on eBay etc from car dealers
We got an active x + sunroof for about 31000 2 years ago (manual)

  • Hi OP, Did you end up buying Tucson Active X with SmartSense? What price?
I am at the same situation as you except that I am going for a Tucson Go with SmartSense pack.

I got the Active X for 29k if it helps.

      • Thanks mate. I take that is without the smart sense. Is it white or any other color which cost $600 extra?

        • This was white without smart sense
