Game of Thrones S08E05 *SPOILERS*

As requested.

Second last episode, what did everyone think?

I predicted that the Dragon queen would destroy Kings Landing as per a 'vision' she had when she was in that warlocks castle looking for her dragons. Just saying :D :D :D

Probably the best episode on the season so far, looking forward to the last episode.

Only negative thing for me was the way Cersei and Jaime died. Would've liked to see Cersei confronted by someone who wanted her dead.

I voted 5 stars, based on the fact I was entrenched in the episode the whole time and when it was over it was a very quick 74 minutes.

Ps. Make some predictions on who you will think will sit on the the throne / how the show will end

I still think the show will end with no one sitting on the throne / Kings Landing being totally destroyed, nothing left.

Or

Sansa will become queen of the seven kingdoms

if you believe the leaks, then Jon chooses Hot Pie to be king anyway.

    • Well at least that would be unexpected and appease some

    • Link?

Only negative was things were too one sided to provide major plot twist to set up ending in last episode (I supposed it was hinted at with the film units called Wolf and Dragon), but this is made it interesting again:

    • There was no plan B on either side to take the castle/defend the castle. Plan A was inferred by Tyrion that the Dragon would burn everything and for Cersei the scorpions would defend them from the dragon but what if the dragon got killed? I mean they didn't bring any ladders or siege machines, etc.

    • Dragon got killed easily last episode by scorpions but things very reversed this time when the remaining one burnt all of them.

    • Grey Worm led D's army with Jon slightly behind and Davos (we've never seen him in action)!

    • Golden Company didn't fire one arrow.

    • Mountain has magic element, but his rebuilder Qyburn got squished too easily.

    • We didn't need the Euron Jamie encounter.

    • +6

      All good points.

Another point; if Jon just porked the Dragon Queen, Kings Landing would've been saved.

    • +3

      Also:

      • Dragon was far more powerful here than Battle of Winterfell.

      • D should have at most a couple of 100 men left.

    • Because all of the major characters have been developed, and Jamie outside, trying to get in, there was no one to command Cersei's army - they couldn't introduce a new minor character so late. Qyburn should have being the hand but he's still a minor character, and if he did he couldn't be in the keep as well or he needed a means of communications with officers.

So it was like Danny's team was fighting a city with some uncoordinated police and perhaps the soldiers outside the walls vs a real battle with experienced commanders and plans.

    • +1

Dragon constantly burning everything seemed a bit stronger than earlier but in regards to scorpians, Dany actually had some tactics this time, instead of flying straight and level.
      * initially flew out of sun
      * changed height in attacks (scorpians slow to adjust up/down)
      * clear sky vs the cold fog in winterfell battle, would have helped with targeting.

  • +5

Dany's turn to the dark side was too fast. They should have fleshed it out over more episodes.
Someone on reddit suggested that Rhaegal should have been kept alive to be killed in this episode. Kill him during a false surrender to get Dany to become psycho would have been more believable.

I was wtf'ing when Grey Worm in light armour and a spear was slaughtering heavily armoured knights.
Golden Company was pathetic, why did they wait outside? Clearly haven't done siege warfare before.
I thought the Dothraki were all killed by the Night King's army.
Cersei should have used her scorpions on Dany when they were talking outside the gates. It's what Tywin would have done.
Cleganebowl actually happened though. RIP Sandor.

I'm still waiting for the red comet to hit the planet and kill everyone. Best troll ending.

I'm still waiting for the red comet to hit the planet and kill everyone. Best troll ending.

At this stage, I'd love an ending like that. Show runners don't have the gonads, though.

Dany's turn to the dark side was too fast

      • Lets brother die and does nothing
      • Buries people alive
      • Crucifies people
      • Burns people alive multiple times
      • Watches her two dragons, best friend and jorah die
      • Everyone close to her betray her

She was never a girl scout and you can understand why she went loco.

      • +1

You forgot to include Jon's betrayal by revealing his lineage to Sansa and Arya.

Those are fair points but it still feels as though she still held her convictions throughout the previous seasons. Latest episode she went loco.

  • +1

Only negative thing for me was the way Cersei and Jaime died.

With the sloppy writing they've embarked upon the last few seasons (and especially this season), I highly doubt they died.

  • +4

It was all too easy in the end re both the white army and cersei. its obvious dany needs to be taken out now and all the starks hate her. jon now realises his burden and once he sees the state of arya he is going to be spit the dummy. arya is going to be fuming after going from hero to a cry baby who couldn't save the little girl. queue final episode. really need something interesting to happen to avoid ho hum. still feel they built up bran for no real gain. be nice if he ends up creating a nice twist to this.

    • +2

A cue is a signal for something to start, a queue is a line of people.

  • +3

Thought the episode has made up from last weeks disappointment, but this one still has some issues as others have mentioned.

    • Not a fan of how Arya walked the 10km to get to the Red Keep then turned back after hearing one sentence from Sandor, then basically was a scared little girl for the rest of the ep.
    • Euron being the only one of the fleet who survived and also rocking up at the exact same time and place that Jaime was at.
    • Jaime climbing up hundreds of stairs, getting in his 10,000 steps for the day, with two holes in his stomach.
    • I can understand why Dany wanted to burn the whole city. But she could at least spare the innocents. She showed mercy throughout the whole series to those who are innocent.
    • The scorpions somehow hitting a dragon 3 times last episode with ease and then missing Drogon with probably double/triple the amount of scorpions this time.
    • There's no reason for the golden company to stand outside the walls. But it was satisfying seeing half of them being decimated by the wall exploding behind them.

It made me hate Cersei so much more and I wish she had a more fitting death. Standing there watching her servants die when she could have surrendered and been allowed to live (maybe). Then at the end being scared of dying. Disgusted me. Pathetic human being.

i can barely walk up my house steps after two hole pizzas

  • I wonder what all those mothers who named their daughter Daenerys or Khaleesi are thinking now?

    • +11

"I can't wait for the next season of MAFS?"

  • There shouldve been a better defence this episode, the Golden Company literally didn't do anything and the 30 Scorpions they deployed couldnt even land any shot.

Jamie and Cersei's death was unsatisfying, I thought there would be more to it.
The fight between the Hound and Mountain wasn't intense enough IMO.

I said "oh SHIT" a few times this episode.
    4 outta 5

  • +2

Weren't there supposed to be twenty thousand soldiers in the Golden Company? I saw maybe 500 of them.

  • +1

The organiser of the defence of winterfell is the same guy organising the defence of King's landing

To semi-quote a twitter comment I came across: "Never before have I seen a TV show episode with such awesome cinematography, music score, actor performance and direction ruined by a stupid script"

I absolutely detest this season and every episode just keeps getting worse.

    My prediction:

    • Jon kills Dany - Quite obvious
    • Bran becomes King of the seven kingdoms - Dumbest outcome possible so that will definitely be what the writers decide to do. They will probably justify it saying he has the wisdom of ages and is completely inpartial to any house etc.
    • Arya will not die no matter what - Too much plot armor. She will probably ride off into the distance on her magic white horse
    • Sansa - Queen of Winterfell (Duh)
    • Jon - Will either die if he loses the light or will go back to the Nightswatch

I will take monetary bets that at least 4 of these 5 outcomes will come true.

    • go back to the Nightswatch

      And watch the snow?

      • Hey.. I think it is dumb too. Which is why I think it will happen. Will probably be justified in order to keep him alive after committing treason by killing the Queen.

        • Did Jamie have to go to the Nightswatch?

          • @ihbh: Did you watch the show? I suspect you already know the answer to that.

But just so you know.. Jaime was not an honorable man at that time and wanted to pork Cersie (wouldn't be possible if you take the black). Plus who would force him to go anyways?

Save your comments till after the next episode and prove me wrong mate. Or do you want to wager a bet?

          • +1

            @ihbh: So… you were saying? :-/

      Bang 0Fox! lol

    • Honestly, did you read the meals? This is way too close to home!

Regardless, I agreed with your sentiment completely.

  • Did anyone seriously think that a surprised Euron in the trailer would mean a heap of baby dragons because Drogon went away for a few seasons back? Unbelievable.

  • +1

Iron throne will be destroyed it is the like "the Ring" in lord of the rings
Arya will try to kill Dany.

Jon will use dragon to burn iron throne.
Jon Snow is like Frodo- he will destroy the throne - he doesn't want the throne like Frodo didn't want the ring.

    or

one nobody else is left in Kings landing , Bron will rock up take iron throne when nobody is left and take the cockroach as his sigil.

    or

Tyrion will take the Iron throne hook up with Brienne of (F&%#ing) Tarth and their children will be Westeros' tallest dwarves.

  • +2

I think Dany's story line changed way too fast. She had been kind to slaves of Mereen, why would she burn everyone all of a sudden? Even Arya, she was like a badass in the previous episode and all of a sudden she is a little girl running away.
The writers are showing completely opposite of what they've build up on a character over the past seasons.

And YES Cersei definitely needed a better kill rather than from the bricks.

    • +2

all of a sudden she is a little girl running away

How does she fight falling debris?

Running for cover/away is the best move!

      • +1

Yup I agree with the debris thing. I was referring to the point when Hound says her to leave she goes away instantly. She is the one who killed the night king, and instantly one single word from Hound triggers her to leave. I felt that it was a bit unjustified. It would have been interesting to see Arya saving Hound and fighting together with Mountain.

        • She's an assassin not a warrior.

  • BURN THEM ALL!!! XD

Golden Company was damn useless. Wanted to see more from Lannister & Golden Company army…
Agree with the top comments episode seemed a bit rush…

  • I like how all the stuff about the night king and the mystical army of death and a woman with dragons slowly gathering support to rule the world has just been a silly distraction from the drama of the evil lannisters and noble starks

  • Are there any Children of the Forest left? They could make Westeros great again?

    • No they all died when Bran was up north in the cave/tree and broke magic protection… rip hodor

  • +1

    Westeros needs a Trump !! :D

    • Build the wall make the wildlings pay for it!

The biggest problem is that Westerosi baby boomer fat cats have been getting rich of westerosi gen Ys through negative gearing and franking credits.

  • +2

I wanted Arya to stab Cersei in both eyes with needle so bad !

  • dissapointed Cersai died from falling bricks

episode was 99% watching sh*t get blown up so it kept me interested.

    • Yeah I wished she lived too

  • Looks like HBO nerfed Euron's skill
