Transporting Large, Heavy Object 1.2m X 2.7m, 170+kg

We are looking to transport some indoor play equipment from Gumtree ~25km to our place. The largest piece is 1.2m x 2.7m (can't disassemble) and there are a couple of other beams weighing all up 170+kg. It would be great for the kids but we don't want to spend a few hundreds of dollars transporting it because it is not critical and there are alternatives. It won't fit in a Tarago for example.

What's the most most cost effective way of transporting it? Use a one-way removalist company? Airtasker?

Have you done something like this before? What were the logistics? Pay the seller, then arrange for the transporter to pickup from the seller and deliver it to your place?

Hire a moving van, $99 for the day. Grab someone to help lift and move the equipment

    • This though I think it'll need to be a ute or if you've got a car with a tow bar a trailer due to the 2.7m length. Even with the ute it's going to overhang but should be within the allowed limit but you'll need flag and straps etc.

    • This, or Airtasker

Long large flat bed trailer (if you have a tow hitch).

Around here is about $50 for 4 hours.

    • pretty sure bunnings hire them cheap

Free hire if you buy a piece of timber.

go to a crossfit gym and challenge them to carry it for you within 2 hours
say some f45 place said they could do it in 3 hours

      It's a rectangle, not a triangle :)

        3 mates plus urself… that's 4…
just place it on cruise control and let it drive itself!

  • Can you get a free trailer from bunnings by buying a 2 by 4?

      I like your thinking.

Of course, the trailer is still free to borrow if you suddenly have a change of mind return after…

Just hire the hulk from marvel

    • There are other hulks?

      • Hulk Hogan could probably do it before his back surgery.

  • Do you seriously not have any friends/relatives with a ute or trailer that will let you borrow for a couple of hours??

Dont be silly. Dont risk injury. Get a removalist!

    We are talking 170kg here.
If you try and move it yourself you are going to seriously injure yourself

Ignore the foolhardy advice here to hire a ute and do it yourself.
These people have overlooked the main issue of dangerously heavy weight!

    • 170kg is easily doable between a couple of fit people. Get a couple of extras if you need. 4 people and that's only 42.5kg each.

    • Good point. There's a ladder and individual beams (to be confirmed), but still not something to sniff at.

    • Thanks, that gives me a guide to pricing relative to Bunnings free for 2 hours or $35 for 4 hours.

  • Thanks all. Got it delivered yesterday through Airtasker for $80. It was most effective cost and time wise - would have been minimum 70km round trip with tolls and very heavy.

    • Wow people on airtasker sure will work for nothing, well done
