$59 Bicycle at K-Mart Hurstville, Should Be Same in Other NSW Stores

110

Last Night went to K-mart Hurstville for some clothes and saw this. Cheapest ever seen. It is muilti-speed bicycle. Thought I was sitting in front of computer all day, it's a good idea to do some cycling at the weekend.

  • Just ONE ???

  • This is in QLD as well! I've seen it at at least two K-Marts…

Was gonna post this but didn't get around to it.

The lady informed me they're normally about $99 but are on clearance. Not a brilliant bicycle of course but not bad either for ~$60.

      I beg to differ.

crap bikes. not worth the time travelling to the shop, and they'll last just as long. definitely neg

    • personal experience? plz elaborate

i work in a bike shop and we get 10+ of those bikes in per week to fix. they're unassembled from the get go so unexperienced customers put them together (most of the time in an unsafe way). the wheels are often buckled out of the box, tubes flat, gears out of place. etc. so they never work right from the beginning because of inferior parts.

they're from a TOY shop, you cant expect these bikes to be anything but a toy.

    • Hey, they're just for casual use. Seriously…. are you comparing them to a lean Tour de France with $5000 carbon fibre wheels?!?

Haha someone is going around downvoting all the negative replies. Upvotes from me to compensate.

Cool - I guess I'll just vote up the deal, to compensate for that LOL

Its a price thing, these aren't road racing bikes.. they are $60 bikes, and yep at least the bike store is more than likely going to make some bucks if they need to reassemble etc.

im just speaking from personal experience guys. i know how they're made. the price should really reflect quality in this situation. i cant wait for everyone to buy the crap kmart bike then come to my shop and get it fixed! yay

Surely the price DOES reflect the quality?

    • so why vote it down - more business for you - yay

You do get what you pay for. I have to agree with kisschasy001 about the general condition of the bicycle when it comes out of the box.

I am NOT a professional bike mechanic, but have worked on more than a few of these dept. store bikes. In fact I own one myself.

However, even though their quality is less than stellar, with a little maintenance and simple mechanical know how, they can last you in good stead.

My dept. store bike has travelled over 1700kms. It's heavy as shite but definitely quite rideable. It'll get you from point A to point B. And since I'm the one who maintains it, I'm reasonably certain it won't fall apart on me.

IMHO, bicycles are inherently simple machines, it shouldn't be so hard to keep them running reasonably well.

I also ride one of those bikes whose price tag is in the 4 digits…. It's definitely DIFFERENT. But they both get me to where I want to go. [added +, I'm not afraid of my beater getting stolen or scratched. :p]

I wouldn't pick one up off the side of the road for free. cheaper than RRP, yes.. worth it? no. completely agree with kisschasy001.

If I were to ride to work/study in the city/school and park it in the street or something, these cheapos would probably be good enough to do the job. Its only $59 and you dont have to worry about it getting stolen or scratched like tebby mentioned.

  • Picked up two of these today

One for the wife and one for myself

Not the most impressive pieces of kit. I haven't opened mine yet, but assembled the wifes… It's not bad for the price, but i'm thinking I should have got the $129 one they have, which is much nicer.
