Best Over-ear headphones

Looking for a high quality pair of wireless headphones with excellent high volume sound and comfort (nothing worse than headphones falling off). Have spent far too much on audio gear - started off with the Sol Amps Air wireless earphones then went with PowerBeats wireless but never really got the comfort or quality sound I was after. Considered getting Airpods but I am now tossing up between the B&O BEOPLAY H4 OVER-EAR WIRELESS HEADPHONES and BOSE SOUNDLINK AROUND-EAR WIRELESS HEADPHONES II…thoughts? and any good deals around at the moment? I don't want to be spending a fortune but happy to outlay enough to get what I'm after, not too fussed about noise cancelling.

After doing some brief research and trying both sets on for myself I found that the Bose pair, whilst being quite good overall, lacked the sound quality at high volume but was lightweight, easily adjustable and cheaper @ around $285 plus it also comes with accessories (carry bag etc.). On the other hand, the B&O pair were a bit more retro and clunky looking but I did notice more emphasis on the bass and full blast volume sounded a lot better. I know the app allows you to customise the sound according to what you're listening to however I don't think it comes with any accessories (no carry case) and also coming in more expensive @ around $329.

I can't make up my mind!

Thanks in advance!

If you are happy with violet purple colour Beoplay H4 is available here for $204 + $9 Delivery.
Worth trying the current 10% (15% for Plus Member) off code PHOENIX
If it fails: sign-out and check out as guest & try code (I use this as a troubleshooting method).

Other codes to try: YAYMAY5 (5% off) , PORCUPINE (3% off) , PLACE (3% off)

Carry case for H4 can be found on Amazon AU for around $20-30 if I remember correctly.

If you are giving the Violet purple a pass, I recommend the Yamaha HPH-MT5 going for around $159 in lots of places.
I would recommend you try them out first by finding a store nearby which has them.
They have a very balanced / detailed / neutral (leaning on warm) sound (focused on accuracy & compatible with many types of music) and competing with headphones that cost much more.

    • Note: the Yamaha’s I mentioned are wired headphones. I thought you would consider them since your title stated ‘Best over-ear headphones’.

You can usually demo / try on a range of headphones if you visit a JB Hifi store. Including some of the higher end Sony and Bose cans.

  • If noise cancelling is not too important then b&w provide excellent sound quality.

If you're around this sort of price point, surely you'd want noise cancelling as well?

Best? Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro ?

Noise cancelling is not best sound quality.

  • Further to this post, I ended up buying the B&O H4's and found a nifty case to go with it for a reasonable price. I am really happy overall with the purchase. The only things to note would be that the pairing between different devices is a bit annoying as it is not instant and also the headphones can make your ears feel a little hot pretty quickly but the advantages easily outweigh these factors. They are not noise cancelling but have excellent sound quality for blasting full volume beats and as mentioned the app allows you to tinker with the sound to suit what you're listening to. They look pretty staunch too (I got the black ones).
