Sonos Google Home Integration Now Live!

Although it’s not active it next month in Australia, you can get it to work by changing your location on your sonos account to United States. No VPN is needed nor does your google account need to change locations. Just make sure your sonos is up to date, and select google assistant in the voice services.

Change your location here: https://www.sonos.com/myaccount/profile/

At this stage I think you have to manually install the updated app on Android, but on iOS you are good to go updating from the App Store. I don’t have an android, that’s just what I’ve read online, so it may have changed.

  • Is there any other ramifications of setting your location to the US?

    • -1

American accent, miles, fahrenheit etc. Plus all the data will be stored in US I believe.

      • That’s for google assistant not your sonos account. Sonos account will make no difference. You don’t change anything on your google account.

  • Another option if you don't want to set your location to US is to add Sonos to your Google Assistant/Google Home app. Then your Sonos One/Beam will appear as a new castable speaker. This also allows you to cast to it using your existing Google Home or Google Assistant on your phone, as well as add it to a speaker group.

I still have a Home Mini set up near my Sonos One, so this will do for me until they deploy to Australia.

    • had no idea you could do this, thanks

      • It only went live today as part of the Assistant integration :)

      • Turns out I lied. Assumed Sonos would have done a good job of Google Assistant integration. Turns out it's as bare-bones as they come. No cast support, no speaker group support, can't set your Sonos as the default speaker for a mini.

    • When I try to do that, it says, "Not available in your Country"

      • Seriously all u have to do is change the country on your sonos login. It doesn’t have any affect on anything other than letting u use the assistant

  • So, at work so can't really try yet.

If I change my sonos location to the US, nothing changes in relation to google assitant? That is, accent remains 'strayan, measurements remain metric etc?

Yep, you only need to change the sonos account. Nothing else. Google assistant works as normal because it doesn’t even look at sonos (obviously) it just allows it to be linked through the sonos app. Not sure why everyone is freaking out. The only thing different in the app is you may get different music services you can add, but that doesn’t change what you already have added. In a month change it back to Australia when they allow the assistant here. It doesn’t really matter. You just get the assistant a month early

      • Just got home and tried it out. Works fine for the one or two commands I tried

  • Presumably it's either Alexa or Google and not able to have both?

    • +1

From what I’ve read it’s only one or the other. I only have GH minis and older sonos speakers/amps so cannot test Alexa. Head over to www.reddit.com/r/sonos to see what other people have found out regarding that.

      • It is one or the other, but if you have multiple Sonos One/Beam, you can apparently set each one up independently.

Or if you have Google Homes already, you can just link Sonos with your Google Assistant to get basically the same functionality without using the Sonos itself.
