Anyone Feel Amazon AU Is Getting Better?

I've realized it seems Amazon AU is getting better…I've been getting a few things from there at competitive prices, also some items that they can ship over from Amazon US really helps, with Prime there's free shipping over $50.

  • Buying Mens clothes from US with prime two thumbs up from me. It's handy to send gifts with prime too.

  • Exactly…with Prime, no real need for freight forwarders, unless the item isn't available on Amazon USA via Amazon AU.

its getting way better, i probably buy 2-3 items a month because its cheaper and quicker than buying from ebay when its an amazon AU item

Significantly better than at launch but still room for improvement IMO.

  • Getting better, slowly but surely. It would appear this is a deliberate approach from Amazon. It seems to be based on ensuring everything actually works and allowing it to build up, somewhat organically, rather than going big bang and the thing falls over.

Unfortunately not for the things I need. Prices are still 1.5-2x Amazon US or eBay.

    • Which are?

      • Recent ones I've checked/bought elsewhere are:

        • Numerous bulk skin care/ hair care/ shaving supplies / etc. (Both male and female)
        • Smart home supplies.
        • Logitech universal remotes.
        • Kiinde breast milk bags.
        • Numerous computer products, from hardware/ micro SD cards/ etc.
        • Appliance spare parts.
        • Household goods (air purifier, vacuum, storage rack, storage clips, etc.)
        • Craft supplies.
        • AV misc. like cables, adaptors, etc.
        • Books.
        • Kids clothes

There's probably more, but I regularly check multiple sites before buying and am surprised opening Amazon US hasn't helped.

100% it’s getting better. I use it weekly, I love it.

  • Definitely getting better. And there has been some real bargains lately. I love searching 'low to high' and finding the $0.99c items!

Anyone feel that this reads like an infomercial for Amazon?

    • yes. i read that and was expecting to scroll down and see eveyone on top of that…well, at least i know prime has free shipping over $50.

  • Still a lot of products (vitamins, supplements)that wont ship to 'straya but will through other companies. And other silly restrictions like I tried to buy 2 umbrellas the other day but they would only sell me one…so I went to Aliexpress instead.

    Nice try Amazon Marketing

I dunno, I still see products that are like 20 bucks on Amazon US for $130 on Amazon AUS. Kind of a deterrent

It's been great for video games, guaranteed automatic cheapest price match and day one delivery that they haven't messed up yet, beyond that though, their search sucks, you can't limit by price for a top level search and like all online stores they let their sellers spam categories resulting in a search for something like a microwave 'narrowed' to the appropriate category still returning thousands of results of things like mugs that you could use in a microwave so the seller thought they'd be cute and put it in the small appliance category, though at least they aren't eBay with its shitty multi item listing with a price range so everyone just puts a sold out bread tie for 1c alongside the real item ruining all price based ordering.

I have prime because I'll get the value from video games in a year easy but beyond that I've so far found that everything I've looked for isn't prime eligible but I haven't been looking for the easy sellers in sure they have started with

    • Used to think the same. But I’m having real bad lucks. Just ordered doom for the third time cos they keep sending me unsealed games with shattered game cases.

  • I have prime. On two occasion I wanted to return the item cuz the first was damaged and the second they didn't deliver to my place.but deliver to post shop It was a big case of energy drink what is really heavy to carry on foot so I cancelled. Both times it was easy to get refund. And both times they said no need to return the product. I thought that was great.

    • It seems things are not so heavy to carry when they are free.

      • Lol its still bloody heavy. I took about 30mins carrying and resting and carrying, when it's usually a 5 mins walk normally. At end of it I was drenched with sweat.

Ya shoulda downed a couple of those energy drinks on your journey home. That woulda put a spring in your step.

        • Lol are you 70-90yo?

I bought stuff at the beginning when they were offering $10 off 50 spend. Prices were ok, but good when you get $10 back. But most things are just price matching other stores.
I hate price marchers, reward the store who price leads, once you stop rewarding good bargains from price leaders they might stop, and you end up with ordinary amazon prices.

I also avoid buying online as, environmentally it’s bad, such as nappies come in boxes, which is wrapped in another amazon box, filled with fillers. So much extra wrapping and stuff for something that’s same price as supermarkets or baby bunting. Left at door, in the rain (now wet nappy). Need to chat, tell them the issue to have it resent. Waste waste waste. No thanks.

  • I just bought Gloomhaven for $152 plus get a bonus ~$11 cashback from shopback. So probably cheaper ~$50 cheaper than anywhere in Australia not even adding shipping.

It was on Prime from Amazon US, so this 10Kg tabletop game is being delivered for nothing from the US.

Shipping alone would cost that much normally.

  • Let's be honest, Amazon AU started off pretty bad, so it was always going to get better. Taking specific items and promos out of the equation, I'd say Amazon has a few things going for it:

    • We can once again order from the US Amazon store for most items (there are still some sellers that refuse to ship to Australia though).
    • Shipping is free for anything over $49, which is lower than almost all other stores in Australia. Shipping for cheaper orders is still very affordable.
    • Delivery is really fast, and you know that the item will almost always be sent within 1-2 days at most.
    • There's very little price-jacking and sales are genuine, if sometimes lacklustre. eBay has become a pjoke, and Kogan has just been sued by the ACCC for price-jacking too, so it's not like Amazon is facing much competition.
    • Prime comes with other benefits - Twitch, Amazon Streaming, etc. that are useful in Australia

It's not all rainbows and sunshine though, there are some huge drawbacks too, that I doubt will ever go away:

    • Prices are still on par with or higher than elsewhere.
    • No Paypal.
    • Range is still very small.
  • I'm just curious as a prime member of Amazon au when Amazon USA stopped sending to Australia you got free shipping cause you was prime, but since Amazon USA now send to Australia now are the items not so much available through Amazon au as they used to be. Yes it's great that Amazon USA is shipping here again but I'm not sure if I better or worse off now or way was before. Yes will always have to pay gst but having the free shipping through Amazon au and being charged shipping by ordering direct im not sure.
I tried to search fir the item but don't see it on Amazon au so probably not available there.

And the big question are they ever going to open its doors for the rest of Amazon sites we used to be able to order from if they can do it with Amazon USA can't see the issue with others.
