  • Wow

  • I saw that. It beat the best deal I could find by $20 and they threw in a bonus fan:

    its a Galax…..

Thank OP, bought 2 for dual SLI. Hope it can handle 4K solitare

    • -1

      Username checks out.

    • +3

I only get a 30% performance increase on 4K solitare using SLI with these. 1300fps is ok but I'd like to see better scaling. The next driver update should fix it though.

      • +1

That's obviously because you don't have enough RAM. I recommend 128GB RAM stick x 8 to Solitaire 8k 1337 FPS.

  • When does the next series come out? like 21xx/30xx or what ever it will be called

    • +5

If they keep to the pattern, roughly mid 2020.

RTX 2xxx launch date: Sept 2018

      • nice, thanks for the info!

I don't get the appeal of budget brands at the ultra high end. If you're already spending $1500, wouldn't you spend a few hundred more to get better reliability and decent warranty support?

    • +11

Ummm I'm not sure your argument stacks up really

Assuming you're in the market for a high end card the difference is 1500k-2500k but the performance difference is marginal (as seen in Youtube clip above). This is a massive saving that could be spent on a 4k monitor or more ram or cpu upgrade.
Plus you're also making a assumption that all budget brands have terrible warranty/support, while at times this can be true, I fail to see how a grumpy post about a less know brand is really evidence based.

      Galax $1449
Galax Nvidia 11GB RTX 2080Ti SG
      Warranty

      Asus Rog Strix $1940
      Asus Nvidia (ROG-STRIX-RTX2080TI-A11G-GAMING)
      Warranty

It was a genuine question! Not a statement. I was just assuming/wondering whether anyone with the $$$ to splash out such an exorbitantly priced card would also be the type to balk at budget brands for the reasons I mentioned.

I'd personally be nervous to spend so much at MSY on a budget brand having been through bad RMA experiences before. Also, a $1k price difference is an extreme case, you can go name-brand for just a couple hundred extra with eBay sales.

You're taking a dedicated Republic of Gaming card with specific PCB and components designed for overclocking/performance and comparing it with a budget run of the mill card. That's an unfair comparison.

Apart from founder's edition cards, the brand you buy comes into play in regards to the components used and PCB design. Better cooling can equate in better temperatures, durability, and life span. Better components for the VRMs and capacitors can improve reliability and temperatures.

I'm not sure about today's quality but brands like Sapphire and Galaxy had horrible reputations in regards to quality and durability when they first started out. Mainly from poor components.

Owned several GFX cards from Asus, Gigabyte, Sapphire, MSI, XFX, PowerColor.

Bad experiences with Asus and Gigabyte.
Positive experiences with MSI, XFX and PowerColor.

Feels like a mixed bag to me.
Who cares if it's a budget brand? As long as it doesn't crash and works fine, I think that's enough.

      • +2

Agreed, I've probably owned a graphics card from most major manufacturers. Some good experiences on budget brands, some bad experiences on flagship products and vice versa.
Currently have a Galax 970. Has been a quality card for me for about 4 years now.

    3 games with RT compatibility.
good video about how crappy these cards are

Its not a crap card lol, its just bad value/ lack of features and performance it brings to the field. For people who wants the best of the best, this card is that product, now how much people are willing to pay for this card? Different story.

    • +1

      Lol.

They'd be fairly fine if they just stuck to the same pricing. Better then fine really. But with the price hike, the only explanation for which is a tech that's used in 3 games and some benchmarks, it just a sucky deal.

  • Worth upgrading from my Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti that I bought for $850 2 years ago?

These cards seem crazy expensive, even for these so-called budget versions.

    I thought $850 was a lot for a GPU

    • How can anyone answer that for you?

      • +3

Sorry, was being facetious. Of course it's not bloody worth it!

    • On a performance to price decision, no. If you want the best of the best (within reason) then yes.

I personally think a 1080Ti is a beast of a card and the 2080Ti is overpriced.

  • +2

This is a non-a gpu, which means you can’t flash a bios with a higher power limit.

I would spend a little extra (or the same) and get an A variant.
