I Bought Corolla accent sport Hatch Hybrid 2019, what do you think the price is?

Question. How much do you think it would cost to buy a Corolla Hybrid hatch, white 2019 model.
Retail price is about $31,000
All weather mats and weather shields is about $300 extra.

Dealers were asking for close to $28,000 or more.
Sales price - end of financial year was $29,068
I talked to about 8 dealers around Brisbane.

I bought it today.
I am quite ok with the final price I paid for it. I would have liked to stick to my wife’s budget of $25,000, but no dealer even thought about $26,000 offer.

I looked on ozbargain before purchasing the car for tips, lol, which was helpful. Thanks for people who talk about cars here. I just asking not because it will change anything for me. But just curious what people think, and I think gives others a good indication what corolla hybrid is selling for now and dealership end deals.

(Just curious) 1) How much do you think I should have got it? (Ozbargainers most times get better deals than me, lol, so I am prepared lol)
Corolla white accent sport hybrid hatch 2019 with all weather mats and weather shields.

(Need help) 2) tint ($700) and paint protection ($1700) and $150 boot liner rubber for total $1000 worth it?
What are your thoughts on paint protection and tint windows? I got till Monday to get that deal.

(Just discussion and share experiences) 3) what are your thoughts on Toyota hybrid cars?

Thanks so much for reading and your input.

Ok, I tried my best to get it at $26500. Tried my best to get it lower than $27500 as I knew I could get after talking to some dealers. Vehicle price is $23518.18, accessories is $283, other charges $xxxx plus $2339 gst.
Total discount is $2134.58. Drive away price of $27,000.
Didn’t include boot liner like I asked. In the end I am happy with what I paid. I did my best. At the time, that’s the best price I can get it. Build date of car was mid April 2019. So it’s still a new born baby. Lol

My comment got negatives, so people couldn’t see the post, anyway, I put in Original Post as asked

    • I get this is a bargain website but the environmental benefits of a hybrid need to be factored in. Sometimes it's worth paying more to try and do your bit.

  • Paint Protection at a professional workshop better than any dealer for $500 - $1200 based on size of car. I've had Opticoat on a large car for - $750

    Tint - $180

Rubber boot liner can be made at Bunnings or Clark rubber for <$100

    • You can buy custom made boot liners off suppliers like “Fit my Car”.Generic are I’ll fitting &terrible.Failing that, go genuine.

  • +1

Need help (tint, boot liner and paint protection)

Boot liner is priced reasonably. Many major parts stores do not offer fitted boot liners as it is not cost effective to do so at a price competitive with genuine.

Tint quality is dealer dependent. Ask to see a customers car with tint fitted. If you are happy with the quality, consider it.

Paint protection is interesting. A ceramic/no maintenance system could be worth it for your convenience, if part of the sales pitch is an impressive warranty WITH NO WEASEL CLAUSES (like, 'make sure you clean bat dropping off as soon as you see them'). To support a proper warranty they have to clay bar your car instead of using polish. This reduces micro scratches and usually stops them from taking off part of your clear coat. An easy way to tell long life paint protection vs wax paint protection is if they require a certain car wash or a replenishment. Many wax paint protections will 'gift' you [wash and wax] car 'shampoo' to sneakily get you to reapply it regularly yourself.

A paint protection warranty can include upto a complete respray if their system fails, so if you park somewhere silly regularly, you are happy to follow their wash cycle and the dealership offers this, it can provide extra piece of mind.

I would not pay cost price, or even mates rates for these products, because I don't care. But I am not a new car buyer. These products have value, and at $1000 for the three I am guessing their mark up is reasonable for the industry.

If you want them, buy them. They add to the experience of buying a new car and make it that little bit more special.

  • For $1,000 that's really reasonable.

What I'd be checking is that the paint protection isn't 1 which needs yearly re-applying. That shit still exists and it's a waste of time. The more commonly used product is applied once and that's it.

As above, there are generally always clauses which state you have to clean the bird shit off your car asap as it will still eat through the paint protection.

Though you did get non-metallic white. I don't think the paint protection will offer you much in that case. Yes it gives the protection, but doesn't add to the shine that it would on a coloured car.

    • Hmmm got premium paint protection upgrade for free. I don’t have to get it inspected every year or so and pay $35 each time it needs to be reapplied for whole car. They will just reapply free when ever I think it’s lost it’s stuff, like colour or stain or slipperlyness. They said a person got bird poop on his car and got stained. They take off the paint part of car and repaint it and re apply with wax. I am mainly getting paint protection to make cleaning car easier.

      • Perfect. I hope you enjoy your new car!!!

      • +4

You know everything you've said is just word for word salesman bullshit. They don't repaint your car, and if the paint protection only costs $35 an application, it isn't worth having. They probably charged you $350 for a turtle wax.

        • People believe the strangest things. I wish I could get a free polish just because my car doesn't feel slippery.

  • +1

Get a Cerato GT! You wont regret it. I sit in one and it flys. Too bad I dont have that kind of money.

  • Stay well away from paint protection. All it is a money spinner for the dealer.Tint? Get an independent to do your tinting & save a lot of $s.I never ever use their services for any of this stuff.Good luck.

  • If you car has printed antenna on the rear glass, I would suggest not to get it tinted as it will make radio reception worst.

    • I might need to ask them about that. Thanks.

take 5k from the RRP and that is usually the best price you can get on a new Toyota

Had a mate that worked for a dealership the mark up is about 7k they are allowed to drop up to 5k they make most of there money on the 'extras'

  • -3

    corolla isn't worth 28k, period.

I paid for a demo 2018 7 seater Nissan X-trail ST For 27.5k and I still think I got ripped off

  • So confusing. Guy haggles with dealer to get a couple thousand off a car? Here I thought this happens every day. I guess it is news after all.

In the next edition, guess what I paid for my new Maxda CX5 a couple years back? No not my car, the wife's. I have a VW CC V6, guess what I paid?

*Tints - $250 max for good quality 3M film from a dedicated Tinting Business
*Paint Protection / Ceramic Coating - Around $700-800 from a reputable detailer. Don't get it done through the car dealership. They do a poor job with paint correction prior to the ceramic coating being provided usually.

If you are based in Sydney / NSW I can send you in the right direction for good detailers and tinters.

    • Thanks for your tips. I took, it’s good to get it done from your advice and approx price.

      • If you must know it’s a mate of a mate and he might have bought an i30. But I’m sure he said it was a corolla and that was the price.

        Edit: damn you autocorrect.

The old shape model, in petrol (not hybrid), and OP has already bought a car… wtf?

      • +6

Whole thread is kinda pointless really isn’t it.

      • It’s not old shape…I bought a corolla hatch hybrid 2019 April built white accent sport.

        • The comment I replied to linked to a listing for the old shape…

  • +2

Does it matter anymore? You're already got the car, what's the point of checking for good price now.

Just enjoy the new car rather than wondering if you could have gotten a better deal.

    • -2

I quizzed people on Saturday night, mainly a bit of fun. And answered 1pm next day. I already put deposits on Saturday morning. Not that I could not buy it.
I wasn’t asking if I got a good deal. I know I tried my best and some people in future will get better deal.

Next thing, thanks to some people’s comments I got some advice and knew more what I would do.
I will enjoy my car. Thanks.

im sorry for commenting…. Had no idea you where literally bored.

    Go wash your car.

  • Update. I know some will disagree. I wasn’t going to get any tint or paint protection. But after talking to some people and reading I got tint from dealer, which was darkest legal tint. Backed by 20 years guarantee. So if bubbles or so, the just redo it for free. Insurance will cover it too if needs to be redone if smashed in accident.
I got paint protection 365 and got upgraded for free to premium. So when ever I feel it’s not doing it’s job, like not slippery, which is harder to clean.. I can go there and ask them to do whole car wax for free at my local dealer. No need for yearly inspection or anything. For 15-20 years. I think that’s a pretty good deal. Plus $150 boot liner…which is what I want and happy to pay for. Total $1100. So many people say don’t buy from dealer. But it’s a good price. They were asking for $1700 when they first offered it to me, no boot liner.

Thanks for all your tips people, I paid for my car today and getting it hopefully Wednesday or Thursday.

    • My sister bought the same model to yours with same extra's except no paint protection for 27.5k back in January. It was an ok price, not great, but she has been enjoying the saving on fuel price ever since.

      • $27,500 is a good price, esp in Jan I think.

      One born every minute.

    • Congratulations!!!

Enjoy your new car! April '19 built is stupidly fresh stock. I am very surprised you got your dealer to move as much as you did on such a new vehicle!

You did good. The most I have discounted a $30k undriven car is $3k, with an old stock bonus, a run out bonus, a demo bonus and a sales event bonus during a slow month (that car usually had ~$700 in it after the 'lets keep our lights on' load).

      • +1

Thanks so much for your support :)
The sales manger saw me directly at the dealer when negotiating the price as I talked to him on the phone. He was happy I was serious on buying straight away and took me to the office as soon as I got there.

      • +1

That’s a lot of stacked discounts you got :)

    • They usually just drive it down the road to some guys backyard and do the tint. Most have lifetime warranty.
Their paint protection is like a bottle of wax from super cheap. Better to get opticoat or something else.
Either way congrats on the new car.

    • Ok. Haha.

  • 2016 i30 active X auto, tinting, mats, white plates, Full leather interior Drive away price $29,100 I paid $20,500

You can haggle a price and get a bad deal OR you can spend 24 hours online looking at what every other person has paid on whirlpool forums. then grab the cheapest 3 prices and use those to ask for rock bottom. THEY will say no.. dont let that fool you.

Best line is to give them the price you want and then ask them call you at the end of the month and you will buy a car from them at that price then or the month after that if they cant do it that month.

Other people they rip over the month will pay for your discount or if they are desperate the following month they will call you back.

Always works. .. no one gets cheaper prices for new cars then me.

and that's NSW pricing.. in QLD you can get it even cheaper

  • OP, do you post on BigFooty? I’d like to nominate you for AWOTY on Bay 13.

    • Thanks, but I don’t post there.

  • With tinting, they literally drive it around to the local tinting place and charge you for the pleasure. Its totally a rip off.

You think the local tinting place doesn't offer the same kind of warranties? Its most likely offered by the company who makes the film (ie 3M) and not the dealers themselves.

Paint protection back in the day was awful. I hope its changed. Parents had paint protection and followed all yearly maintenance and cleaning regimens on the vehicle. When they took it in and said that the spoiler was discolored they were told "Sorry, its not a part of the vehicle so nothing we can do" despite the fact they took money from my parents yearly to "inspect" the vehicles paint and never saw an issue.

  • Out of curiosity, OP, did you try any of the regional dealers (eg. Beaudesert) besides the Brisbane flogs?

    • No. I didn’t. I just wanted places close by. So I ended up buying from my local dealer.
I tried north of Brisbane. South of Brisbane and so on like Ipswich and Logan.

  • +3

So what did you pay? Update your op so not having to go through pages of comments

    • Ok. Good idea. My post answer got negatives, so people can’t find it easy. Lol
