I Bought Corolla accent sport Hatch Hybrid 2019, what do you think the price is?

Question. How much do you think it would cost to buy a Corolla Hybrid hatch, white 2019 model.
Retail price is about $31,000
All weather mats and weather shields is about $300 extra.

Dealers were asking for close to $28,000 or more.
Sales price - end of financial year was $29,068
I talked to about 8 dealers around Brisbane.

I bought it today.
I am quite ok with the final price I paid for it. I would have liked to stick to my wife’s budget of $25,000, but no dealer even thought about $26,000 offer.

I looked on ozbargain before purchasing the car for tips, lol, which was helpful. Thanks for people who talk about cars here. I just asking not because it will change anything for me. But just curious what people think, and I think gives others a good indication what corolla hybrid is selling for now and dealership end deals.

(Just curious) 1) How much do you think I should have got it? (Ozbargainers most times get better deals than me, lol, so I am prepared lol)
Corolla white accent sport hybrid hatch 2019 with all weather mats and weather shields.

(Need help) 2) tint ($700) and paint protection ($1700) and $150 boot liner rubber for total $1000 worth it?
What are your thoughts on paint protection and tint windows? I got till Monday to get that deal.

(Just discussion and share experiences) 3) what are your thoughts on Toyota hybrid cars?

Thanks so much for reading and your input.

Skyhoppertk on 19/05/2019 - 13:06
Ok, I tried my best to get it at $26500. Tried my best to get it lower than $27500 as I knew I could get after talking to some dealers. Vehicle price is $23518.18, accessories is $283, other charges $xxxx plus $2339 gst.
Total discount is $2134.58. Drive away price of $27,000.
Didn’t include boot liner like I asked. In the end I am happy with what I paid. I did my best. At the time, that’s the best price I can get it. Build date of car was mid April 2019. So it’s still a new born baby. Lol

My comment got negatives, so people couldn’t see the post, anyway, I put in Original Post as asked

            • @pegaxs: What fuel economy are you actually achieving on a typical tank, and what type of driving? I have a 2009 Prius v-tech, and thinking of changing to new Corolla Hybrid. And it takes regular petrol, not premium, right?

              • @sharonlives: Takes regular petrol. 91 or E10 is fine.

Real world driving for my area, rural country town, mostly 60 to 80 zones. Odd/occasional freeway drive. Not a lot of stop start traffic, school and work runs. Mostly flat, a few small hills, according to my last tank of fuel, I averaged about 23km/l (or about 4.3l/100km if you use retarded fuel economy measuring.)

This was 50:50 shared driving condition between me, a hyermiling, let's make it a game driver and a "I dont give a shit about your fuel economy, I just need to get from A to B…" wife. We get about a month and a bit out of a tank, so we have only put 1 full tank through it since purchase. To date, after resetting the trip computers on the last full fuel up, the car is a little over 23km/l this time, but I'm guessing it's going to stay about that for the entire tank.

                • @pegaxs: Wow, thanks for the info. I will be driving mostly in 50-80km zones. With Some traffic. Man, I am in urban and have traffic lights in many places. Maybe now and then go on 100km highway. Hmm hopefully I get 4.3/100km or so too. Hold on, did you drive at those speeds or did it slow for game? Lol
I will be looking forward to quiet smooth drives.

Did you try the hold button? Next to park brakes?
I think it’s suppose to stop car automatically or something after pressing button without pressing brake pedals.. I have no idea how that works. But from video, if I saw correctly will be useful.

                  • @Stargazer5: why such a surprise with 4.3? my subaru impreza is 6.6 without hybrid.

  • +1

I must say, the new corollas do look mint. They should bring out a turbo model.

    • CVT Transmission is not that great, but ok. Styling is a great improvement.

      • +1

        Yeah i'd definitely buy a manual :)

        • Manuals ok if you like driving and not in the city. In the current series Toyota seemed to go with the same motors across the range even if the model was a sporty one. The hybrid is meant to be ok, but still not something that would excite as a driver car. Corollas have always mainly been cheap realisable cars to get from A to B. Back in the day I wish I had the twin cam 1.6lt EA82

          • @Melb69: If i was buying any performance model car, it would always be manual, i don't feel like you get the full experience of a sports car with anything but manual.

That being said, i doubt i will buy a brand new car ever again, such a waste of money :)

            • @crashloaded: I agree… in this age, the only time I would buy a manual is for my cruise/sports/performance car. My weekend penile extension is manual, but every other vehicle in my household is auto/cvt.

              • @pegaxs: I bought this car for driving experience, but not for power or fast acceleration.
What I like about it is smoothness, comfort and quietness. The feeling of being in a hybrid is amazing. I never really bought cars for power and have difficulties understanding having them as a normal car. If I had lots of money for car and didn’t need to carry people or materials, I would buy a toyota or Subaru 86.
But my favourite car I would like to own is corolla hatch hybrid. I can’t drive manual. Lol

Without actually doing any research I would say 10% of RR which would be $27900. I would have gone in there firm at $27k with free mats. What ever you paid, someone would be able to get it cheaper depending on dealer salesperson or location.

Don't get any of the accessories from dealer. DO NOT.

Do your own separate research on tinting, and paint protection from other companies as the prices at dealers for these things are a rip off. IMO. At a minimum get the tinting with UV protection it makes a big difference to the interior temp of car. Really blocks out the sun affect compared to no tint.

Protection will help the paint and make it easier to clean. Many different types.

    • +1

I think 10% of a Rolls Royce would be more than $27900.

    • Thanks for your tips

  • +13

OP, I have a firm guess about how much you paid for your car. Can you guess how much I guess you paid for your car? And then we can chat about the accessories.

    • -1

I guess you guessed about $27,500-28,000, because most dealers were about $28,000 mark or above. :)
Accessories were about $300 extra..I just wanted it included. Lol

For this price, get the mazda cx5. I know it's a different car, but you can thank me later.

    • A Mazda CX-5 for around $28k new?

      • I will go check it out just for curiousity.

    • +1

I will buy a cx5 auto on the spot for $28K!

    • The Mazda CX5 Maxx FWD starts at 33490.

I don't think there is a career progression for them. Once the body doesn't cut it in short skirts and revealing blouses, they just retire knowing they've made enough money to last them out.

This post is the worst striptease I have ever seen.

    • And for a Corolla no less. I feel dirty.

  • Is there a Corolla hybrid in sedan type?

    • Sedan hybrid is coming near end of year. It’s stuff I think will be similar to current hatchback.
Hatch back is already 12th generation.

    • Next gen model sedan will be, due end of this year or early 2020.

      edit: beaten.

    • Later this year.

This one is mostly positive. I want to share, and I also wanted advice, hence the post.
      I am not lonely. Lol

      • +1

Here’s some advice. Sell the shopping trolley and get a proper car. Anything from the Germans $80k and up will do. Or better yet wait 3 months and trade it in on a Tesla Model 3.

        • Haha. If I had 3 million cash in bank. I will try and remember your advice. :)

  • +8

I am quite ok with the final price I paid for it.

    Thats all that matters

I will post bought price later. Not written yet

Stop playing games and post it.

    • Ok, from your feedback, I will post it around lunch. About 12pm or so. So if anyone else wants to guess. If you like, do it before than. Was going to post around evening.

      • +2

        Should have put up a poll… OzBargain loves a nice poll… :D

      • Ozbargainers don't have time for no games… time is money that we could be spending saving money on things!

        • Well, let’s see how close you can get to the price. There will be better prices another day, or even Monday. But yeah, lol. If any ozbargainers here wanted the same car. Well. You can find out a good indication here after I post it.

    • +2

I will post it around lunch. About 12pm or so.

    Bored now.

  • get tint and paint protection after you have got your car, not at the dealer…you will save 50% of what the dealer charges you…both are good products at the right price

in regard to the boot liner, just ring around a few dealership spare parts departments and see what they retail for, you will probably save a little bit as well

    • +1

Thanks for the tip. The dealer I bought it off wouldn’t even discount it a dollar off.

  • +1

Everyone just guess $27,200 so we can end this madness ;)

  • -4

anyone who pays more then about 20k for a rolla bought the wrong car lol. Good cars but not 20k+ good cars.

    • I was on p plates 15 years ago. And got my p on my old corolla. I don’t feel like changing cars. Lol. My old car was reliable, cost little to service and repair. At over 10 years having the car. It felt like only a couple of years owing it. Not sure, first car experience? But I liked my car a lot, only until this year it cost more to repair than what people willing to pay for my car to buy from me. Well corolla hybrid is like a $40,000 Prius Toyota or so. But a lot cheaper.

      • what repairs did it need?

        • +1

I did major service and repairs about $2500 a couple years ago or so. Then had car crash which costed racq about $2900 to fix. When it was insured for about $3500. They fixed the back of car. Now it needs like something like fluid leak fix, something to do with axle or Tyre joint maybe and something else. About another $2000.
Dealers keep wanting to give me $500 for it. Said it can’t be worth more than $1000.
It’s like only done 160,000 over 15 years. I still drive it, it works well still. Probably stop driving it until it dies without fixing anymore. At 15 years, I am quite happy with what it did for me already.

  • It’s 12 already, what’s the answer?

    • -6

Because of the poll, I made it 1pm. 13 minutes till 1 pm

  • the suspense is killing me .. or maybe it's my flu

    • nice work … it will still be performing well for you in 30 years, so less than $1K / year.

      • Thanks

30 years? Do these cars last more than 15 years even?
I would surprised if it lasts more than 20 years :D

      • I'd think we'd be fully electric + self driving by then.

    • +14

This post confuses me. What are you trying to achieve OP?

If you want to brag about your negotiation skills, the poll results say that you didn't do as well as other people.

If you want to brag about buying a new car. Well, congrats. Enjoy! At the end of the day, if you are happy with the price, nothing else matters.

If you want to share your experience, there are nicer ways to do. For example, disclosing this information in the original post and encourage people to share their experiences.

There's something in your attitude that I can't exactly pinpoint but I dislike it. I think you were rude when promising to disclose the price at 12pm then moved to 1pm because of the poll result (wtf does that even mean???). Not that I care about how much you paid because it's not a car that I'm interested in buying, but I find it very rude.

I think Op made this post with good intentions and in good faith but I really hope this doesn't kick off guess the price of this item forum posts. For example Guess what i paid for NETGEAR 4G LTE modem ? NEWS FLASH no-one gives a shit

        • +1

          Thanks for your understanding. Kudos!

        • +2

What did you pay for the netgear modem? $115?

  • Which other cars did you cross shop with? Thinking of either a new corolla hybrid or slightly used Civic/Mazda 3 but I do like that hybrid drivetrain!

    • I had a budget of $25,000. I didn’t look at other brands much because I don’t know them, Mazda 3 was over $30,000. I trust 20 years of Toyota hybrid experience. Loved my corollas, Mazda and civics maybe better at driving power. But I like quiet, comfort, reliability and low costs of purchase, fixing and service. New tech hybrid in corolla is a dream to me. Best to test drive yourself. I fell in love with it from test driving.

      • Do you get much more in the SX/ZR trims?

        • Well, for sx trim, best thing their for me is premium wheel. But it’s not worth the high extra I think.

  • +1

What the hell are "all weather mats"? Sounds like marketing buzz words…

    • Haha, just rubber mats!

  • +1

Do NOT get extras from the dealer, Mats, tinting, paint protection, mats etc, etc. You will pay extra sales tax on any deal.

    • If you're able to negotiate those for free, why not???

      • Hmm I got weather shields and mats free. It was great. I would have paid normal price other wise. Lol

  • Whats the go with Android Auto for this badboy? I read somewhere while I was in Japan that Toyota has finally started to see the light (mostly due to new Supra.

  • did you consider using a broker? as per that post last year they may have got a better deal

    • Broker got about mid $28,000. So I didn’t use broker in the end.

  • So what was the answer at 1pm Brisbane time?

  • Skyhoppertk 5 hours 38 min ago

      • -1

        yep.

      • +1

So you guessed it correctly well before the deadline.. but there was no acknowledgement at the time - considering the OP made further posts after your guess?

No offence OP but what was the whole point of the Guess what price approach..

Probably would have been better as… I paid 27K driveaway for 2019 Corolla Ascent Sport Hatch hybrid - was it a good deal?

Well done on the discount, but as the saying goes You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar

        • I knew the price I got was best as I could get at the time…what I could do anyway. I was going to leave the post there for a day or two, without saying the real price. But people kept asking, so I decided to tell others the next morning, which wasn’t much time. I said I would post it 1pm, not before. Anyway, discussion was interesting.

  • +6

Why did I just spend the last 10 minutes reading through this thread…

    • 10 minutes of your life you will never get back. Lol

  • I wouldn't get the tint or paint protection from the toyota dealer, i would definetly get that from independant shops. they will do a better job and be cheaper if you shop around. i had my i30 done for about $400 for tinting (your car is about the same size)

paint protection may be worth getting from an independent spot since its a nice new car and you may keep it for many years.

can be hard to haggle, but if you tried multiple dealers and got the same price don't beat yourself up. as long as youre happy. also corolla is a great car so enjoy mate.

  • Why hybrid vs just petrol? I understand the saving on some fuel, but the battery and extra electrical stuff's expensive to service/replace. This makes it harder for DIY as well.

    • +8

$1500 difference, which also gives keyless entry/start and climate control.

At most, you're up for $3500 for a new hybrid battery in 10+ years (it has a 10yr warranty).

But take the tin-foil hat off please. Hybrid has been around for 20+ years, and majority of uber/taxis that you see are hybrid. If they broke, drivers wouldn't buy them

And at $175/year service for the first 5 years, why bother with diy?

    • As someone who prefers a multimeter to oil stains, I welcome the idea of DIY servicing my future electric car ;)

    • a hybrid car is just a normal car these days.
