Looking for A Second Monitor for General Purpose

Hello everyone, I am currently looking to purchase a second monitor.

I don't plan on using this one for gaming as I am pretty set with my current one which is a BenQ XL2420G.
The second monitor will mainly be used for looking at documents, so I am planning to keep it in a portrait mode (less desk space as well). I have been looking at MSY's clearance list and its parts list, and just focusing around the 100-150 range. Many of them seems to be able to tilt and rotate side ways but not too sure if they can be set up into a portrait mode.

Any recommendation is appreciated

Have a nice day :)

  • Every lcd monitor I've ever played with has been able to operate in portrait mode - you just need to change the settings in Windows.

That just leaves whether the monitor can be physically rotated into portrait orientation. Most monitors have VESA mounting holes, so even if the stand that comes with the monitor doesn't allow the monitor to rotate, you should still be able to use a VESA mounting bracket.

    • Okay, yeah I will look into the VESA mounts. TYTY

  • I don't think any of my monitors have a 'portrait' mode setting, the actual setting is done in Windows.

Most budget LCD's do not have a stand that allows you to fully tilt / pivot / heightadjust, you should consider buying a VESA arm mount for that kind of purpose.

    • TY for the suggestion, I will look in to the VESA stands

  • While not the answer you are looking for but your current 24" is kind of 'economical' in terms of real estate especially for gaming.
Maybe consider a new 27" or larger monitor for a new primary then use your current 24" as the secondary.

    • ehhh, I feel like 24'' in already big enough and my desk space probably won't allow that expansion though

  • At that price point and what you're doing probably anything will do, check the ports on your PC & monitor to make sure you can plug it in.
IPS panel type would probably be nicer for what you want to do, also portrait is set on the PC itself not monitor so you should be all good.

    • yeah I know about the portrait settings already (maybe I should've made that clearer in the descriptions, my bad). It was because most of the monitors I looked at didn't specify whether the screen could be turned 90 degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise. But I will look into the VESA mounts and the IPS type as well, TY for the suggestion.

  • +3

    2nd hand?

My current home office setup is dual 22" AOC monitors. One was hardrubbish collection and the other was $10 off ebay.

  • i have 2x dell u2718q mounted on my desk

  • Something from AOC. There are for a very good price and pretty good qualitty

  • My last monitor was a 24 inch AOC 60hz 1080p TN panel second hand from Gumtree.. was $60 AUD all up including delivery so yeah if you don't mind too much about warranty then Gumtree is always a good option.

Just make sure to have lots of back and forth with the seller and ask for pics and proof so you don't get scammed.. so far I have only been scammed on Steam Gift Cards, an iPad Pro 10.5 and a TV but that is another story and honestly I just felt sorry for the guy to have to stoop to such lows so I gave it to him.. anyways karma goes around so good luck to you in your monitor search.

Look into a flexible arm mount that can move around easily that connects to your desk if you have a solid one they are really handy.
