Concerning Email Today Scam (Was in Junk Mail Folder)

I received this email a few times today and some of my passwords on my phone does indeed use it nothing for bank or such probably forums etc should I just ignore it?

Hi!

I know your password is: *******

Because infected your computer with my private malware, RAT ( Remote Administrator Tool ).

The malware gave me full control to your computer and full access to all your accounts, it also has the option to turn your webcam on and spy on you, this is no joke such things exist, you can google it.

I collected all your private data, like pictures, documents, videos.

But what I also did, was A VIDEO (throught your webcam) WHERE YOU STATISFY YOURSELF!

If you don't pay exactly 1000$ with bitcoin ( btc ), I will send this video to all your contacts, post it on social network, over email and everywhere else!

I will publish absolutly everything I collected from you, you know your darkest secrets won't be no longer secret.

We both know that it's is a very good price compared to the hell your life will be after that!

I give you 2 days time to get the bitcoin and pay me, since I got access to your account, I know if this mail has been already read.

I sent this email multiple times so you don't miss it.

Don't show this email to anyone, you will make everything worse and I doubt that there is someone who could help you out in this situation, I'm the only one, so don't blow your chance!

My bitcoin wallet is: 1F73edsje5GbjqybTgKAesWfihvp4Q59Eq

The wallet to receive and send bitcoin with current exact rate, you can create here: www.login.blockchain.com/en/#/signup/

If you don't know where and how to buy bitcoin, google: "Where to buy bitcoin?", it's a very simple task, for example with credit card.

After payment I will remove everything I collected and you can life your live in peace like before!

Next time update your browser and scan your files here: http://virustotal.com/.

If you want to know how you got infected, I tell you, I placed my iframe on the website you browsed, the iframe redirected you in the background to my exploitpack ( multiple browser exploits, wich targets random vulnerabilities ).

Shit happens in life, take care the next time!

    Email them back -

I've tried on occasion to flash my contacts unsuccessfully.

Unfortunately, all my friends are prudes. Tell you what, if you manage to get my friends to watch me "satisfy myself", I'll double your Bitcoin demand.

    Thank you kindly.

  • +48

Ignore. They got email addresses and passwords from a data breach.

At first it's confronting that they have your email address and seemingly your password. But trust, they haven't videoed you doing anything. Pretty sure there is a place reserved in hell for vermin who try to blackmail people with rubbish threats like this.

    • +4

      This.

They are just extracting email and password combinations from data breaches, and most likely automatically sending these emails out based on that info.
You can verify this using https://haveibeenpwned.com/, check for your email and most likely it would have appeared in a breach.

Use a strong unique password for each website people!

      • Pwned on 3 breached sites and found no pastes (subscribe to search sensitive breaches)
        Just checked me email Really?

      • +1

Every illiterate cyber security media piece will stress the importance of a strong password but they don’t seem to place as much emphasis on uniqueness.

If I had to choose just one, I kind of feel that unique is far far more important today. Apart from cases where the password was “abc123” or “Passw0rd1”, I’ve never heard a report of a successful brute force hack in the past decade where as thousands (millions) have been hacked after re-using the same password.

One weak site gets breached and then all your accounts are gone.

  • +47

Ask them if they enjoyed the video.

$1000 in bitcoin if they want another.

    • +14

LOL. I got the same email today. Hope they enjoyed the video of a fat guy having a wank.

  • Email them back and ask really dumb questions to waste their time.

  • +14

Your email and password were probably leaked from some data breaches on certain sites in the past.

    https://haveibeenpwned.com/
Check if your email account/s have been compromised above. It's likely that the sender of your email is just a scammer who got a hold of stuff from those data breaches.

Better to change your passwords to something secure constantly.
Something like this could work for generating strong passwords (albeit, difficult to remember):

    https://weboas.is/password/

  • Funny that I also received 3 diff numbers last few days one from Melbourne, Wyong, Brisbane and some mobile number, and the number they called is my new Kogan number I activated a few weeks ago, it’s very annoying. I have many dummy emails, promotions old forums with the password from that scam email, I don’t really care with those, just shocked me me little how my password came up.

  • +2

Do not email them back. Just ignore it.

    • +1

Yeah that’s what I’m planning on doing, any idea how they could collect your phone number, since mine was relatively new?

      • -1

        CHANGE YOUR EMAIL PASSWORD!

Check for "suspicious activity", can guarantee you will have some strange logins in Bulgaria/Vietnam/All-over-the-world!

Also remove any "Sent items" that has personal information you sent for employment purposes and whatnot!

100pts of ID alone is enough to port/steal a phone number, then use that for SMS 2FA.

I received this email a few times today and some of my passwords on my phone does indeed use it nothing for bank or such probably forums etc should I just ingore it?

        Start using lastpass, it's free.

One weak link in the chain and your entire online identity (including potential risks to your bank accounts) is compromised.

What if they start using your identity to make bookings overseas?

        • +1

this is a common piece of spam that is simply based on publically available dumps of accounts harvested in breaches, unlikely they were logging in to their email (though possible if you also reused password for email). definitely should be changing passwords but that is about it. https://haveibeenpwnd.com/ is easiest way to see where the details likely came from.

  • +8

It clearly states "don't show this e-mail to anyone" so you've blown your chance. Get ready to have the video spread "everywhere". I just hope the lighting was good.

  • +1

Yeah, they're really hitting it hard, I wonder if a whole set became public because I've only got it recently, but I literally have like 5 or 6 of that email. As others say, check haveibeenpwned site, make sure you have new and different passwords for anything that uses that one (I use lastpass).

Also keep in mind that your email is typically one of your most important accounts, usually a password loss or hack for any site, can be gained back through email so make sure thats safe. And use 2fa for all the accounts you super care about.

  • Welcome to the club :)

  • Well my phone isn’t jail broken, I will just clear my cache.. I do occasionally get lots of pop up spam very annoying on my iPhone 7 Plus, ozbaragin and whirlpool account doesn’t use that password, oh yeah I just changed it anyway. Everything else has long passwords. Stupid scam was in my junk mail.

    • +3

Stupid scam was in my junk mail.

Please don't write posts based on everything in your junk mail folder. There's a good reason it's been filtered off to there…

      • I would have but was checking as some of my emails even important things get sent into my junk mail like market research, that scam mail just has my password in the tittle so was little skeptic.

  • +6

No need to worry, I'm sure you look great in the video.

    • +2

      jerking and crying?

      • +2

And his mother walks into his room.

      • +1

Nothing helps you sleep like a depressing wank.

  • +13

So they have a video of you eating a snickers.

No big deal as snickers really does satisfy you

    • +1

but have you seen the video?

he wasn't eating the snickers out the wrapper…….

  • I am absolutely clueless what Iframe even is? I did a google search and this came up and described some numbers and letters on a page which some of the pop came up on my safari earlier?

    https://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlabs-security-intelligence/…

    • +3

Its just a tool to create web pages. It isn't nefarious.

The email sound scary but it really is just a scam, copied and pasted to hundreds of thousands of random people.

If it were real you would have had a sample picture sent to you…

      • +1

Cheers, now I can continue with my Uber ABN application, out of all things this really gave me little hassle and wasted my time.

      • +1

“If it were real you would have had a sample picture sent to you… “

Or video highlights, e.g. last five seconds.

  • +4

If you're dong is big, I say call their bluff.

  • +1

Honestly; who doesnt close the lid on the computer before going the fiddle. Amatuer.

Seriously, this scam has been around for ages, ignore this moron. You could report the scam.

  • What gets me about it is that people obviously fall for it. I’ve been receiving these for months, and sometimes I check the bitcoin wallet address to see if they’ve had any coins transferred to them. The one you’ve been given has 0.2 bitcoins in it - so it’s likely some poor sap paid up.

I’ve seen some in the past with a balance of multiple BTC. Makes me want to get in on the scam

  • someone send me the video i wanna see it

  • Scammer say: "Hi! I know what you did last summer"

By any chance if your real name is "Hi"?

  • +5

The bitcoin wallet in the email you received is listed here

  • I get at least 10 every day.

    • Emails or videos?

      • Emails- they're just using credentials from sites that have been compromised and trying to scare you..

Totally ignore them, they have not infected your machine.

  • Demand they pay you 3 grand in bitcoin for the privilege of this video!

  • It's like 2019. Video of self statisfaction is worthless. Own it. Tell them you've got even better.

  • +2

I got the same email. If they wanted a video of me having a wank so badly, I would have sent them one. Just make sure I make unblinking eye contact with the camera, and jerk it real slow.

  • +1

These things are nothing new. Check your email addresses on haveibeenpwned. See what needs changing and move on. There is no breach on your device it's just trickery to get you to second guess yourself.

Most blackmail attempts use old information but pretend to have hacked you only recently to imply more urgency. More urgency the more likely you are to pay. Just like '24 hours before we disconnect your internet.'
There was a guy on a news show talking about this very scam.
There is no video they don't have access to your contacts. Just like the Microsoft call scams they just cold message everyone to see who bites.
Advice: Change your password if it's still used. If you want move accounts over to new email addresses that will help out too.

I've gotten this email ~5 times across different email addresses
2x they had my old myspace password. Myspace hack was in 2008.
1x was my adobe account. Adobe hack was October 2013.
1x was my xsplit password. Xsplit hack was November 2013.
1x old game account that I used to play on. Anyone can sign up and you will get the exact same things just means I wasted a week.
1x they didn't even include what password they had. We have your passphrase (blank)

After that I really stopped caring. Oh one of those again password is a decade old yawn.

When you say you have gotten weird calls what type of calls where they? Was it the typical your computer is blah or didn't you answer?
If the number was recycled and chances are it was they might not even been for you and are more coincidence.
Hey Nikole I still get your secret wine lists and new houses to rent in sydney messages! How much wine did you even buy?

    • First number from Queensland Brisbane 07 3180 2670
      https://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0731802670/

Looks like people reporting it’s scam

2nd Number from Queensland Brisbane as well 07 3193 3275
      https://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0731933275/

Seems like scam again, like I said my number is only 3 weeks old with Kogan secondary number not sure how got hold of it.

      • Seems like scam again, like I said my number is only 3 weeks old with Kogan secondary number not sure how got hold of it.

        1) Might just be robocall.
        2) they may have access to your email..

        • Robocall? never heard of it, is it dangerous?

          • @DEvok: Robocalls are just when a company good or bad runs numbers though a auto dialer system.
Eg calls 123456 then onto 123457 and 123458 type of thing. Generally scammers use a stolen disconnected local number to mask their own.
Which some phones actually show the number as being 16 digits or longer which is what my old phone did. lol
Current examples are 'your internet will be disconnected with in 24 hours unless you talk to a tech now' who will do the logmein scam. Previously I had a you are owned money from an car accident Scam.

Sometimes though they get your number via a sucker list. Eg they say that the person who's number is this is more likely to fall for a scam. So it's possible that the person who had the number before you fell for it. They are nothing new they are on the increase.

Other times they call because they got it from a data breach and want that final piece of info for stuff like identity fraud. If it's under 3 months since you have gotten it its unlikely they have your details. But more likely they are hammering the numbers around yours.

My grandma would get 2 a day on average even though she never owned a computer but they kept calling I'm microsoft/telstra/nbn go to your computer which she would scream at them with I don't own a computer!! I told her to go sit in front of the toaster or the washing machine.

      • The phone calls are not related to the email.

  • You 'statified' yourself?

  • I had that email about 2 months back. Nothing has happened yet.

Big deal. Your friends get a video of you polishing the knob and pulling faces and they find out you like "Lingerie Lesbians".

  • +4

1 sucker fell for it so far
    https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1F73edsje5GbjqybTgKAe…

Tracing the transaction seems to show they dude is just getting warmed up.

    • 2 now

    • There's a sucker born every minute, and luckily for the scammers they're prone to owning bitcoins.

Or it's just the scammer transferring bitcoins to themselves to make the whole thing look more real.

      • The scammer is not targeting people sophisticated enough to check the bitcoin wallet…

  • This is a scam absolutely nothing to worry about. The hackers spoof your email address, so that it shows your email address rather than their own as the sender. However, the email was not sent from your account.

It's quite easy for hackers to get passwords you use. If you input your email address into the following website, it will show instances where login details has been stolen from compromised websites. https://haveibeenpwned.com/ They can get the email address and password stolen from one of these data breaches.

While you have not been hacked and no one is watching you, you should change passwords for any website or email accounts which use the password shown in the email.

I always put sticky tape over the camera when the urge takes over

    • +2

So it's you in those blurred vids on p0rn hub!

Maybe use something less transparent than sticky tape!

      • +1

So its you watching those vids i post on p0rn hub!

        • +1

Don’t forget about xvideos and spankwire lol

        • +1

          Absolutely!!!

You know what they say, the more it blurs the more it purrs!

        • If you see some Xiaomi hardware and enneloops batteries in the background or video you know it's me ;)

    • Use black tape. I can still see you.

  • Ignore it. I get them, sent from my email addy to my email addy.

It's a poor attempt at a blackmail scam. It's actually a good reminder to update passwords though…

    • Though if you monitory the wallets, there sure are some suckers out there!

  • Send me a vid of you satisfying yourself. I'll have it professionally rated and advise you if you have anything to worry about ie, if it would get a reasonable number of views. Normally I charge $100, but for you…$50.

    • +4

So its cheaper to get a wank video reviewed than a resume? Damn mate, you should post this in the bargains.

  • As said above, this is from data leaks.
You probably can't even reply via email (I tried sending a dickpic reply back to one of these emails and asked them to use it instead, but the email bounced).

In future, setup keepass. Use a different auto-generated password for every site.
Bonus points if you use a different email address as well.

  • Ignore it. I got an identical email and I don't have a webcam or watch porn, you're all good. My email address/password was definitely part of data breaches in the past. I only use it for stuff I don't care about, I just use Lastpass and have different passwords for everything else.

  • If you have everything on my computer access etc.. buy yourself a Bitcoin…

  • +1

Don't show this email to anyone, you will make everything worse and I doubt that there is someone who could help you out in this situation, I'm the only one, so don't blow your chance!

    Uh oh.

  • Lol, this type email is so common. I just hope our senior citizen don't get caught with this nuisance email.

  • I am looking forward to see the video xD

    • If you send me 1 bitcoin I'll forward it to you

  • Compromising video eh ?

    Nice

  • Leave it. It’s fake. I don’t know why some people in this world to bad things to other people to make them scared/pissed off

    • Money. It's all about money. Scam it, steal it, extort it. It's the perfect use for cryptocurrency.

  • https://ghostproject.fr/ will show you part of the password if your email has been breached on a site before.

  • Well they've received two amounts of BTC in the past few days so the scammers are doing something right - see blockchain explorer

I got one with a different address - 1L9H1CtLsDCTtuvdE9hqpm9BD72jYBtvDF - this one has done a bit better!
