20% off Cerave Skin Care - Daily Moisturising Lotion 1L $22.99 @ Chemist Warehouse

200

Cerave skin care has been known for being reliable for sensitive and eczema-prone skins, and was launched in Australia a few months ago at reasonable prices, so fans no longer have to buy it from iherb. It has only been available at Chemist Warehouse, and this is the first time that it's on sale at 20% off. I believe the prices showed on the website have been discounted, comparing a few prices with this picture taken by a reddit user when it first hit the shelves.

If you are using brands like Cetaphil or QV, you may be interested in giving this a go. Cerave products have excellent texture and incorporates good ingredients. Their products are endorsed by the Eczema Association of Australasia. They have a hydrating facial cleanser for normal to dry skin and a foaming facial cleanser for normal to oily skin. Their daily moisturising lotion has glycerin, ceramides and sodium hyaluronate. The bigger bottles are better value but you may want to try out in smaller sizes first. I've personally only used the daily moisturising lotion (from iherb), and even though it's marketed for dry skin, it's oil-free, non-greasy and easily absorbed (Cetaphil is too thick and greasy for my combination skin).

If you're buying online, make sure you go through your cashback provider, and take advantage of your Shipster membership free shipping for $25+ before the program ends.

Their Hydrating Facial Cleanser is really, really good. Gentle enough for a quick morning cleanse and hydrating but effective enough in a double cleanse routine if you use an oil cleanser/miceller water as a first cleanse. I personally like it paired with Hylamide High-Efficiency Face Cleaner (oil cleanser) for most days and Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution (best micellar water ever and also 45% off RRP at CW!) for when I wear makeup.
It has much better ingredients than cetaphil too. I've also tried the La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser (which is currently also on sale at CW with 25% off) but this is better, not to mention the pump bottle is more useful. Some people may notice that it's a popular cleanser and brand overall within the beauty community. So glad it's now available at Chemist Warehouse and the prices are very affordable compared to the online stores like iherb and MYQT.
Will definitely be buying the 1L bottle but for newcomers, best to try the smallest one in case it's not suitable.

    • Thanks for the info. I heard about the hydrating facial cleanser when Gothamista was raving about it back in 2017 but still haven't tried it.

      • I have combination skin (slightly oilier t-zone) so it's been great. I used to use a foaming cleanser by itself when I was younger and going through a bb cream phase but it would be too drying for my skin now. A bit of retinol and some chemical exfoliators really change your skin type lol..

        • Oh, that's my skin type too, you still prefer the non-foaming hydrating cleanser over the foaming one from Cerave?

          • @moocher: To be honest I haven't tried their foaming one yet so don't know what it's like. I do double cleanse in the evening though due to my sunscreen usage so I avoid foaming types since it would be too powerful. Over cleansing would be a no-no. By itself, it may work for you? A foaming one I've tried recently that is super popular is the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. Those who rave about it say it's gentle but for me it was too much and left my skin (particularly cheeks and mouth area) dry.. you know it's not right for you when your skin also feels tight afterwards. Sometimes the key to reducing your natural sebum production is less cleansing.

            • @kaebomb: I've tried the COSRX low pH cleanser and I quite liked it. I am currently using Dermasukin's oily skin cleanser which is even gentler, and still foams a little, and I think I prefer it over the COSRX, especially in the morning when I have no make up or sunscreen to take off. I might try Cerave's foaming cleanser when I run out just out of curiosity. Thanks for your feedback :)

              • @moocher: No worries. I used to really like Miranda Kerr's Kora Foaming Cleanser which was just perfect. It was the only thing I used and it took off bb creams easily, was gentle and not drying at the same. I stopped after I wandered to other brands and haven't used it since but I may revisit just to see what it's like now on me.

    • Small bottle it is for me then :)

      • Some people may notice a slight chemical smell but it's not that strong and isn't a deal breaker for me at all, especially when it's a nice creamy texture. Hope you enjoy it! Otherwise you can use it up on your neck hehe

  • Thanks for the post Moocher. Looking forward to trying the daily moisturising lotion. Is it hydrating enough for winter? I find thick creams make me break out on my T zone, while some lighter ones leave me with dry patches on my cheeks. Have yet to find a good facial moisturiser for my sensitive combination skin!

They actually have a few different types of moisturisers to choose from in the photo I took: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/182438/69428/20190524_…

Facial Moisturising Lotion (Normal to Dry)
      Moisturising Lotion (Normal to Dry)
Moisturising Lotion (Dry to Very Dry)
Moisturising Cream (Dry to Very Dry)

Note that despite having just one product with the word 'facial' in the name, all of the above-mentioned state that they 'moisturise and help restore the protective skin barrier of the face and body' on the bottle/tub.

This is only a guess but I suspect the cream version is a bit thicker than the others? Haven't looked into their ingredient lists or googled about them yet.
There are testers in-store though so they're worth a try as the pump bottles are fairly hygienic.

      • Thanks khdsl. It's great they have testers, although I prefer to use it for a few days to see how it affects my skin. Hope I've finally found my HG! It's so frustrating, I've spent heaps on skin care trying to find something that suits my skin. Avene, Clinique, Dermalogica seemed to work for a short while, but then I end up breaking out. Maybe I should try the lotion first…

Another drugstore brand that may work is La Roche Posay and their Cicaplast Baume B5 cream. Then again, I completely understand how annoying trying different skincare is!
I went through the same for a while when I was looking for a matte sunscreen then an oil cleanser and a gentle cleanser that would pair well and work well on their own. Used a mixture of affordable and expensive cosmeceutical brands. Thankfully the products I have settled with are not only cheap but also easy to source here.

Just also want to say that if one product doesn't suit your entire face, maybe just apply cream where you need it? (I.e skipping your forehead and just putting cream on the cheeks). Or if your forehead also needs something then try applying/layering a hydrating/hyaluronic acid serum underneath as the lightweight humectant will help reduce water loss from your skin.

    • I think the daily moisturiser is the lightest in the range, and as khdsl points out, it's to be used on the face too. I also have combination skin and I find it just right for winter.

  • Good post for this new-to-aus brand OP, got my 1L cleanser and I saved $5.60 ($27.99 RRP).
Although it was confusing at first with pricing in-store and online because CW don't actually state it's on sale (besides the catalogue) on their shelves and on the website. Had to double check at the cash register there was already 20% off the final price lol https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/182438/69427/20190524_…

    • Cool, glad you got what you wanted :)

  • Is it better than Simple Moisturiser?

    • I've never used Simple moisturisers personally, but 'better' is a subjective thing, it depends on your requirements and what is important to you - texture? Price? Smell? Ingredients? I'd say Cerave would be cheaper/100ml in general. Simple is 'dermatologist-tested', which doesn't mean very much, whilst Cerave is developed with dermatologists and certified. But if your skin isn't super sensitive then it might not matter.

    • Prior to using CeraVe facial PM moisturiser I used Simple Replenishing Rich moisturiser. I was happy with the Simple, but now actually prefer the CeraVe. I also like the thought of the ceramides helping my skin barrier and niacinamide doing happy things. Simple is quite a bit cheaper though (i consider both to be very reasonably priced though).

Ok, I’ve just done a quick test and applied each of the above to one side of my face. After 20 minutes (very short time I know) both feel nice and not hugely different. The Simple side feels more dried down and matt, the CeraVe a bit more moist and ‘dewy’ (not shiny or oily though). Everyone’s skin is different, but hope this helps.

      • Thanks for the experiment, Simple gives me oily look sometime. Maybe I should tryout the dry to very dry cream.

I have easily upset and quite dry skin and I love the CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion PM. Being a lotion, I thought it wouldn’t be rich enough (the cream is much thicker), but it’s great, esp if I use a serum or two first (but still fine on its own). Be warned those with a niacinamide allergy, the PM lotion contains this, but I don’t think the cream does (thankfully my skin loves niacinamide). A little lotion goes a long way too. The hydrating cleanser is another favorite. So happy CeraVe is now in Aus (sorry iherb!).
