  • still plenty of stock around in NSW for the BB-8. Not much for the others and the force band .

  • Was really tempted for R2-D2, but the fact is, sphero announced the apps will only be supported for 2 years rom Dec 2018, so there's only a year and a half until this becomes a paper weight at most. Especially with the R2-D2, most of the articulation appears to need to be controlled via the app.

Just because the app becomes unsupported does not make them a paperweight. The app will continue to keep working just fine, just no updates.

What I was thinking. If you’re worried about OS updates breaking the app or you have a handset you’d later like to sell, buy the cheapest android phone you can, grab the app, and never update the phone OS.

The notes also said they’d support for “at least” two years. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Star Wars apps stop getting updates but support via the education app remains for longer too.

      • Well yeah so long as you keep a phone with the app on it around for as long as you can. It's just a pitty that they couldn't introduce a standalone remote so this thing could live on forever, the moment your phone dies, and the apps no longer on the app stores, then indeed it'll be a paper weight.

We can just keep the app apk file, can't we?

          • @kampret: Yes ofc. You can even find the apk on download sites.

squaredonut is being rather.. I dunno the word.. But noob'd comes into mind.

          "Standalone remote" aka Force band!

          • @JohnSy: Unfortunately the Force band still requires your phone and app.

            • @t3chshopper: To update it’s firmware it does. Didn’t seem to require it after that?

    For those who want R2-D2.
Check your local Zing store if they have stock. They will price match EB games as they are parent stores.
I’ve just done it at the Pacific Epping VIC store.
    :)

    • Just received my R2D2 and it looks SOO nice…now I want the black one but looks like its sold out on EB website. Did Zing have to check availability before price matching?

      • Don't think they checked if they had availability. They just priced matched it on the spot. :)

  • R2 is no longer half price. :(
