Pixel 3 64GB $599 @ JB Hi-Fi. Price Match Harvey Norman + Trade in Old Phone (Normally $1199)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

JB Hi-Fi are running a $350 trade in credit for the Pixel 3, detailed in the comments of this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/458741

Harvey Norman currently have a flash sale on the Pixel 3 for $949 (edit: removed "today only" from the title as it looks like harvey norman are still offering this price) https://www.harveynorman.com.au/google-pixel-3-64gb-just-bla…

JB Hi-Fi will price match Harvey Norman and then if you trade in an old phone you can get the Pixel 3 for $599.

The sales assistant was pissed but they honoured the deal. The first store I tried said no. Goodluck. Be nice because JB Hi-Fi are definitely losing money on this one.

edit: I almost feel guilty for sharing this. I'm guessing whichever sales people that honour the deal might get in trouble later. The stock should be all gone before end of the day.
edit2: This is the Pixel 3, not the Pixel 3A
edit 3: this might be better suited for the forums than the deals page as it's not guaranteed to be honoured. Sorry if shared in wrong place

    I'm in two minds:

    • Incredible deal
    • Price matches are not bargains

Don't forget to pull out those gift cards for a bigger saving!

    • +7

This is the cheapest this phone has ever been in Australia (import or au stock). So yes this is a bargain. Also note it's not just a price match, you will need a functioning old phone that you can trade in.

      • Yeah this is definitely a bargain but one of Ozbargain's posting requirements is that it doesn't rely on price matching with another store (because YMMV).

You are price matching HN with JB.

        • +2

I think that rule only applies if the final result is a price that matches another store. This is actually a combination deal and the final result is a significant bargain by anyones definition of bargain.

          • @Brucelamao: Oh it's definitely a bargain.
But hopefully the mods still class it as a 'deal' because some people have been knocked back with price matching this.

            • @pennypincher98: ah yeah, myself included. First store said no. Well hopefully someone else gets lucky!

              • @Brucelamao: Damn it, was hoping it was for the Pixel 3XL instead (I think that gets better battery life, speakers, and display).

    • Awesome deal.

I paid full price on release day and it was still a good buy twice as expensive.

The $599 is Pixel 3A, not Pixel 3.

    • +1

No this is the Pixel 3. The Pixel 3A is only $100 off for a trade in (down to $550)

      • No because this is almost like a haggle, you have to ask the store rep to double stack deals.

I was about to jump in my car and drive straight down to JB. But then I read the second sentence of the post title. Sigh.

    • +1

You don't have an old phone to trade in? You can buy one for about $50 and this will still be an incredible deal

      • +3

Trade isn’t a problem, getting a price match on top of the trade in deal is the issue. The $350 trade in deal is essentially a $350 off promo, as JB knows they people are going to be trading in worthless phones which they’d be lucky to make any money back from. So asking them to take a further couple of hundred dollars on top via a price match is really stretching it. I’m guessing the odds of getting this deal are extremely low, so low that I didn’t think it was worth the trip to my local store.

      There's literally a $19 "smartphone" at Coles?

    • Me too but “The sales assistant was pissed but they honoured the deal. The first store I tried said no. Goodluck.” sounds like a long shot to get them to honor

      • Yeah it wasn't easy… but worth a shot if you've had this phone on the wishlist and been waiting for an opportunity

    • +13

      Don't listen to this guy

          • @pennypincher98: I'm talking about the system not the look.

            • +1

@sfac: So we should all get Pixels and load Samsung's UI on to them?

              • -6

@pennypincher98: The ideal phone should be iOS,one plus 7 pro look/specs and Xiaomi price.

                I know I'm dreaming.

                • +1

@sfac: I agree on the Xiaomi price but that's about it lol.

        • First time I've heard someone say that added bloatware makes Android better. You could maybe say that the first versions of Android needed some improvements but the Samsung UI is terrible and hard to use coming from stock Android.

Samsung designed their UI so people would keep buying their phones, if they used stock Android people would buy whatever phone running Android that they liked but once you get people using your services, your backup etc they won't want to have to spend all the time required to go to stock Android.

Thanks for sharing the story of your struggle with everyday life, I'm sure you also say that toasters are too complicated.

      • +1

        I have to admit I'm a fanboy.

    • To be fair all android phone are now inundated with notifications the moment you first turn them on, Samsung is probably worst of the bunch. Every new apps installed automatically switch all its notifications and you'll have to spend considerable amounts of time to turn them of from the stubborn software updates to everyday failed whatsapp wifi updates. Just like setting up a new gmail account only to realise Google automatically signed you up for all marketing emails from any retailers it knows of.

Too many hoops to jump through. Willing to try it for the s10 but not for pixel

  • +1

Seems like you got lucky, this user said their price match was denied, so very dependent on the store member.

    • +1

The first store I visited refused to combine the deals, they even tried changing the terms of the trade in to say "up to $350". But the second store honoured what was on the website. Any old working phone gets a full $350 trade in value.

      • Good work jb I'll do you a favour and avoid you altogether

  • first you need to found a place that has havery norman and jb hifi not too far apart, otherwise they won't price match it.

    • This was the case for the JB that honored the deal.

  • +6

    na. this runs on android…
i hear Huawei 1.0 is going to be lot better.
    ill wait for that.

    • You forgot the /s

  • what is the term for trade in old phone. any phone?

    • The website doesn't say much other than that it has to be working. They checked the phone I had to make sure it could turn on/off, that the touch screen worked and wasn't cracked, and they also tested the speakers.

  • So, will they accept a Huawei device as trade-in?

  • Good phone good deal. Many steps and need some luck.

  • This may not get honoured at all JBs, see this comment before you race down to your local JB.

  • went into a store this morning with a functioning iPhone 4 I had sitting around and the assistant said he'd have to put it through the computer to see what I could get for it since it's so old and off the top of his head estimated $30. Decided a plan would be better for me in the end anyway

    • +1

I had this issue with the first store I went to, but their advertising does state that any old phone gets a full $350 trade in credit. The second store I visited put my phone into the system and it estimated $0 value, but they overrode it and put in $350 because that's what they're advertising.

  • Great post OP
    I’ll try my luck

  • Can someone please provide proof of this transaction so my store can copy it

    • +1

      Same please?

      • Thanks Bruce which store was that please

        • I don't want the sales person to get in trouble incase they werent meant to do it. What i can say is that North Sydney will not honour it. They aren't even doing the $350 trade in deal properly. (The terms on website say a full 350 for any phone, but they say its up to 350 and will value your tradein)

  • Yeah be interested to see if people actually get this.

    • +1

The sales assistant was pissed but they honoured the deal.

I don't know if I want to spend my weekend arguing with some sales assistant. I'm guessing you'll have to be pretty persistent.

  • Must resist, don’t want to go out from the house today, argh!

And I just got the S10e… Like the Chinese say, “Aiya”!

  • I have a suspicion that this phone will be offered for 599 as standard price in the next few weeks.

    mixo

    • I think that might be true for the Pixel 3A but im not sure about the 3.

    • No chance. This is not a Nexus 5x

  • This post will send a few on a wild geese chase.

  • +1

JB hi-fi Joondalup gave the old "up to $350" which doesn't seem to add up.

They will price match to $949 though but an s6 edge 128gb is only worth $70…

  • Tried, denied.

  • Artarmon- denied

  • Does that work with the 3 xl? The $350 trade in isn't even a big deal because JB hi-fi put their prices up on these phones.

  • +1

No hope in Melbourne. Checked it. Some bullshit that they don't price match with bundles. Just walked out. First some bullshit about no stock but there was stock. So always ask first if they have stock and then price match/haggle.

  • +1

Just want to thank you OP for the amazing bargain deal. I was able to pull this one off at JB Hifi at West lakes.

    • Nice one! Glad someone else was able to get it

  • +3

Thanks OP! Managed to grab a Pixel 3 128gb for my mum with the same method as she prefers that model.

Went to the Caringbah store where there’s a Harvey Norman in the same building.

Asked if they were happy to price match and came back with a yes.

Traded in the Samsung note 3 and even got $10 extra credit out of that. :)

    • +1

You for$10 credit for note 3???

  • Thanks mate - managed to get one. Saw someone doing the same thing with the pixel 3xl. Awesome bargain!

  • Why does it say today only ?

    • +1

The harvey norman deal said one day only on their website but it looks like its still there today so no harm in trying

  • Which is the new cheapest phone one can trade in for this ?

    • I traded in a 7 year old phone that had $0 value in their system. It was in great condition though and fully operational

  • Just tried my luck at Preston HOME at High St and no luck. Sales guy seemed pretty pissed and rude the moment I said the word '' price match'' and tried playing dumb not understanding what I want.
Then said"if you wanna do just the price match that's fine but not together with the trade in ".

    • I have had a similar response at another store and they also mentioned there was a memo from head office about the promotion so no deal…

  • Went down to the Oxford Street store in Surry Hills and got the trade-in + price match, no problem. I was extra nice to the sales chick and they seemed happy to do it.

    • No chance in Melbourne CBD

    • i thought the harvey norman sale is only 1 day , which is yesterday, they still match it?

      • As long as it’s still on the website, they said they were happy to match.

  • +2

Amazing. Just picked up a Pixel 3 XL 64 GB from Caringbah for $749

    • Did you need to push the sales staff or were they quite willing?

      • +2

Did not need to push or negotiate at all. Just rocked up and asked if they could price match and trade in. They agreed and it was super smooth. They do check if the trade in is working. I traded in an LG G4.

        • Thanks buddy :)

        • Caringbah staff are way too smooth. Thanks, it went perfectly for me. Charged $739 though.. not sure why a $10 credit came up..

  • Anyone had a chance to get it here in WA?
